Although it is yet to do service within the preservation scene, I was given the very unique opportunity to sample this very beasty vehicle after its restoration back out on the road. 80 was an ex-demonstrator, featuring a unique rear layout, and can be seen in this video showing off what its made of on a private tour around its old stomping ground.

Sounds sweet as a nut. Many happy memories catching these into Wolverhampton in the mid 90’s before the excels came along.

Good to hear the old lady go for a stretch. So many videos are frustrating as they meander through traffic and windey streets and never seem to get out of second.
I used to drive MAN SL202s with this gearbox and you could lock it in first. I understand you can't with these.

I remember the Mainline Metrobuses that worked alongside the great Dominators and Adlantians. Anyone else? Oh the memories. The Memories!

My god that is the most stick I’ve ever heard being given to a Gardner. Took it in its stride poor thing.

These are marine engines. It's the rest of the drive line that's more a concern.

Ah, the first bus engineered not to rattle your teeth loose. Apparently, the fact that it had suspension that actually did something made them something of a handful to drive. I remember them swaying and lurching along Ashton New Road in Manchester in the 80's. I loved them and still do. A lot of the drivers I spoke to were less keen...

Gardner made the 6l3 which was governed at 1100 rpm as a marine engine 18 litres at 3 liters a piece!! And could idle as low as 300- 350 rpm !!great engine. Some great vids of these on TH-cam . Also some of fairground generators too
