- The PoolRx Booster is a bit of a mystery for many consumers and pool service pros. It is just the PoolRx+ minerals packed into a paste form that you would use under a few circumstances. One, if you notice the minerals have worn out either after 4-6 months or from other issues like algae, heavy use, and so on. Two, if the pool is large and you are using it to bring up the mineral content to the manufacturer's recommended levels for that pool size. Three, if you use a PoolRx+ to clear a green pool, you may need a booster sooner because the minerals were used up fighting the algae.
They now have two boosters available for PoolRx+, a Blue booster with 8 oz of the mineral and a Black Booster with 12 oz of the mineral. Depending on the unit you have and the pool size will determine which booster to use.
PoolRx+ is compatible with all chlorine types, if using cal hypo be sure to dilute it in a bucket of water before pouring it into the pool. PoolRx+ is also compatible with all salt systems, ozone systems, UV, and AOP.
PoolRX+ is not compatible with other copper algaecides, biguanides, bromine, sodium bromide
What Chelated means is that the metals in the PoolRx have been bonded to form two coordinated bonds similar to what Metal Sequestering Agents do. This means that the Metal Ions will remain in the PoolRx unit with no metal ions being introduced into the pool or spa water. PoolRx is Chelated so the metal ions stay within the PoolRx unit itself.
Make sure that you choose the right size PoolRX unit so that the treatment will be effective. You can place it either in your skimmer or pump basket. When you first insert the unit run your pool for 3-4 hours. Then run it the normal cycle to get at least one full cycle of water from the pool, into the filter, and back into the pool again. The PoolRx unit should last 4-6 months.
PoolRx eliminates all algae fast. Even microalgae that you can't see use up the chlorine in your pool.
PoolRx is ideal for a saltwater pool also. It will extend the life of your salt cell as you run the system at a lower output while PoolRx is present in the pool, typically with 50% less output. PoolRx minerals also include a de-scaler that will prevent scale from attaching to the salt cell meaning less cleaning of the cell is needed. Also since it is generating less, the pH won't rise as high requiring less acid to be added to the pool.
You can also use PoolRx to clear up a green pool. Fred goes over the process in detail in the Podcast
and I have done this myself so I know it is very effective. Just remember that a lot of the minerals will be used up in clearing up the pool so a Booster Pack will be needed.

If you are a homeowner purchasing PoolRx for your pool will save you money on all of your chemicals including chlorine (liquid or tablets), clarifiers, Phosphate Removers, and Shock. The price of the PoolRx unit will pay for itself over the course of the season and as a bonus, your water will remain algae-free. So the $60-$90 investment is well worth it and to get your money's worth to add the PoolRx right at the beginning of the season.
For the Pool Service Professional PoolRx is something that you would add on and charge your customers for. Great info gentleman, thank you. Should I warn pool guest with chemically died hair or very light hair that the copper in the PoolRx could cause green hair or is that not an issue. I know copper in the water causes this, not chlorine like so many people think.
It can only happen in week number one before the minerals are dissolved completely and for this to actually happen the chlorine level needs to be higher than 3 ppm. So if you add it and keep the chlorine at 2 ppm there is little worry of the copper mineral causing "green hair."
Hi,
If I have a zinc sacrificial anode do I have to worry about staining on my pebble finish or high zinc when I install a blue and white pool rx in my salt water pool?
I haven't heard of that being an issue.
What copper reading should we run? I had .3 when I deployed the pool RX 8 weeks ago. It raised up to .7 and now is back to .3 again...
You won't be able to get a copper reading wirth a poolrx in there. With 3-4 months and then test.
Our pool calculates between 21-23k gallons. Is the PoolRX blue/white of large enough or should I add a booster right away?
30’ round above ground at 54” deep
Would say the blue and white would be fine without a booster.
Our pool season this year will be 2 months only. Will we be able to use the same pool rx unit next year +/- booster?
Negative as the minerals will be worn out by next season.
I don’t have the original Pool RX unit, but my guy added the black booster unit for a green pool, I’m not sure what to do. Is my pool gonna get destroyed?
Nothing to worry about. In a month the minerals will be used up.
@@SPL should I add the pool ex unit now to make it last longer or is that tooo many mineral
Hello I had a poolrx cartridge, it worked great for awhile but I’m getting algae again. I was wondering if I can sit the booster but I threw away my original cartridge. Can I add booster without the original cartridge? Thank you!!!
Booster by itself will last 2-3 weeks. Need the anode
