Probably an activist type who opposes the death penalty out of principle. But it is fine if you oppose the death penalty, and if you are strong in your convictions, the way to go about it is to petition the legislature to abolish it. However, when the death penalty is the law of the land, and there are specific guidelines as to when it is approved, your job as a juror is to follow specific guidelines. Therefore, in my opinion, this juror was dishonest during jury selection. If you are summoned for jury duty, and are out on a death penalty case, you should recuse yourself if you are opposed to the death penalty as a matter of principle. That is the proper way to go about it. Not to weasel your way in.

But weaseling yourself into a death penalty case in order to prove a point, is pretty messed up.

      Ummmm….no.
      That’s not how it works.
      Nothing is automatic.
When they question you about your opinion of the death penalty…and if you say “I’m against it”…
It goes back to the lawyers.
They then decided whether or not to eliminate you from selection.
      Defense likes you automatically.
Prosecution may have some twist where it works for them. Maybe her feelings towards other things outweighed her opinion on capital punishment.
      Maybe a LOT of things.
You’re assuming the prosecution would have automatically recused the juror….JUST because they’re against capital punishment.
That is not at all common.
There is really little reason to make that assumption, other than naivety.

    • @RealPolitik-dy4it
      @RealPolitik-dy4it 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@sendthis9480 That could be the case. But regardless, when you are a jury, the law should trump any of your convictions. If the facts of the case meet the guidelines for capital punishment, you go by the guidelines. No matter your personal convictions.

I don’t think their anger is unjustified at all. They have every right to be angry. My personal beliefs don’t align with the death penalty because of reasons (mostly too many innocent people have ended up on death row). So I have gone back and forth with this case. I’m from SFLO. My ex used to have to go to that school to fix their vending machines. Just knowing he could have been in the vicinity that day is scary. I don’t know these people and I don’t know anyone who was a victim of this horrific crime. But I remember this day like it was yesterday. And as a person from South FL, I have always felt protective of these families. Watching them go through this trial while that monster sat there scribbling or with his head down, showing zero remorse, bothers me more than words can ever say. Throwing my own personal beliefs to the wind, I do hope he gets what he deserves.😔

My heart goes out to the families. This is the time for all the families that have endured all these mass shooting in the USA to stand up together with all people and fight for gun control. Take all your hurt and anger and fight your Government.
She said no closure, anger stays here (pointing to her heart) and never thought she could be so ugly inside. If she can read my comment here. I'm so sorry for your loss of your son. My daughter also died tragically by her boyfriend. Everything you said i have been through for 18 months. I carried all what you said for along time. My health deterioted, my family broken, lost in life, i don't even know who i was anymore. The ugliness inside kills the heart and mind. No rest. You don't want to continue down that path, its dark and there's no way out. The only way out is to forgive and pray to God for peace in your lives. I have cried everyday for 18 months, that i don't know if it will ever stop. But I'm trying everyday, one day at a time to heal. But i have forgiven and waiting for God to heal my broken heart.
I learned a lesson today by listening to all the families that lost a loved one. The lesson is it won't be Cruz that sufferers every day, his suffering will come judgement day. Because if we refuse to forgive, the suffering by God is actually reversed upon us, we are the ones that suffer every single day. Please take what i have lived and said to heart, to mend your broken hearts. God Bless all of you!
