"Life of pi" has been my really favourite, especially the movie... It's so sad to lose such a great actor as Irfan Khan.

It's such a great book and movie! Also, what, Irrfan Khan died?! I haven't been following Bollywood lately but this is terrible news! He had such a lovely quality to his acting. :(

Most definitely gave me new things to think about when approaching a novel.

We all do, but it's a learnable skill! Write, get feedback, learn, rewrite, write new stuff, learn more, etc.

Haven't seen the movie, but heard controversial reviews about it. btw what is the movie with Meryl Streep footage? *** I liked how you mentioned: " it is almost the job of stories to ask questions. It is job of characters to explore things we as readers can't explore ourselves."

The film is called "Adaptation", came out quite a few years ago now. It was written by Charlie Kaufman, who is also a character in the film (playd by Nicolas Cage). As far as a movie, it's OK, but Charlie Kaufman has written some incredible scripts, so I'd actually recommend watching "Being John Malkovich" or "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."
RE: controversy, if you're referring to Life of Pi, it's a great film. The only controversy I can think of was either the use of 3D in the film (shot at the height of the 3D craze around 2010), or maybe that Yann Martel's novel was partly inspired by another novel that he never formally attributed.
