The film is called "Adaptation", came out quite a few years ago now. It was written by Charlie Kaufman, who is also a character in the film (playd by Nicolas Cage). As far as a movie, it's OK, but Charlie Kaufman has written some incredible scripts, so I'd actually recommend watching "Being John Malkovich" or "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." RE: controversy, if you're referring to Life of Pi, it's a great film. The only controversy I can think of was either the use of 3D in the film (shot at the height of the 3D craze around 2010), or maybe that Yann Martel's novel was partly inspired by another novel that he never formally attributed. "Life of pi" has been my really favourite, especially the movie... It's so sad to lose such a great actor as Irfan Khan.
