@Bonita Demas some people don't stuff the bird with the stuffing but instead use lemons and fresh herbs. We love it stuffed! And will take leftovers that don't fit and bake them in the oven separate for anyone who doesn't like it from the bird. It's dryer that way.

I loved hearing about your Grandmother's recipe. My Grandmother's is the same, except we use Oysters instead of sausage. I'm the turkey cooker in my family now and I've stopped stuffing the bird. I stuff my bird, but this year my brother is coming and he's gluten free. So he's doing a gluten free dressing and I'm doing a cornbread dressing. I have to cook it separate instead of stuff the bird. My mom always did a bread stuffing, but I learned to make cornbread stuffing for my ex-husband and love it so much better than soft moist bread. I made my stuffing like my mom's but with cornbread. I don't use sausage; I just use the onions, garlic, celery and chicken or turkey broth. My brother also can't eat food with MSG in it, so good thing I have home canned broth learned from you. Maybe I should try putting turkey sausage in my dressing. Hmmm. (I don't eat pork.) I always start cooking on the Sunday before Thanksgiving - pickled veggies for salad bar Sunday, pies on Monday and Tuesday, table setting and chopping veggies Wednesday for the stuffing and turkey, set out all the cooking pans/roaster, serving dishes. Then Thursday up early to put on the turkey and stuffing and cook the mashed taters a bit later, also put together green bean caserole ready to put in oven when turkey is close (1 hr ) to being done.

We have always traditionally stuffed the turkey for Thanksgiving. The stuffing was basically a loaf of white bread ripped up, eggs, celery, salt, pepper, diced onions and chicken broth. Mix with your hands in a bowl until everything is incorporated and stuff the turkey with it. Any stuffing that doesn't fit in the bird is formed into patties and fried in butter. Then we top it with sour cream (sort of like a potato pancake, but with bread). Super yummy! :)

When I make stuffing, I add bouillon powder or cubes to which I add some spices (cloves, pepper, ginger, sage etc, holiday spices), then use this to hydrate the bread/veggies mix and it gets soooo yummy (I don’t at all miss meat or meat broth)! I cook it in bread pans and use it alongside e.g, homemade tofurky or vegan Christmas meatballs since I’m plant based…😋

A little hack I use for setting my cheesecakes is a hot water bath in the oven…it helps them to set and bake faster and that way the top doesn’t burn while the middle is still baking. I learn so much from your videos and love the joy you have when cooking for your family it’s how I cook too! Thanks for sharing! Buen Provecho (means enjoy your meal in Spanish) 😊

This video as always was ever so fun and I'm so excited to try some of your recipes. I know of a lady that does Thanksgiving for over 50 people and she cooks her bird ahead of time takes it off the bones and puts it in a large roaster and pores turkey broth over it. And like you she does her potatoes ahead of time and so the day of the dinner she really doesn't have to do much of anything. My grandma when she would host a dinner and there was a sit-down she would set the table ahead of time I know people that will set the table ahead of time and then lay a large sheet over it if you have pets. But you are not only sharing amazing beautiful tasteful recipes Becky but you're encouraging us to think ahead and not stress the day of. I have to share a story years ago when I was just Married only a few years I had put a whole chicken in the oven and I was so excited in our new to us home and was so excited to make this wonderful chicken dinner. And as time went on I thought well this is odd the chicken wasn't smelling anymore and it wasn't getting done and then I have found out that my oven had broke. Another time when I was making rice pudding and you put the rice pudding inside of a pan of water and I was hosting Christmas that year I went to lift it out of the oven and the bottom pan of water broke. I had rice pudding with an egg custard exploded all inside my oven all over everywhere. I just remember the tears flowed I had three little ones at the time I was hosting over 25 people for dinner plus children. Got it all cleaned up we were fine. That year I hosted Christmas Eve at my home plus Christmas Day at my home to completely different meals. The one on Christmas Eve was Swedish Norwegian with all the Swedish meatballs and lutefisk and sweet or sausage and all the fixing even fruit soup. Becky you're amazing and blessed is Josh and your precious little bundle that is growing soon will be here. I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving one Josh's family and just know I don't always comment cuz I watch it on my TV but I haven't missed one of your videos yet. Have a blessed day and much love from Minnesota

Becky, I haven't even gotten to watch this video yet, but I came here to say that you alone in the last couple weeks since I found your channel have inspired me and made me fall back in love with my kitchen. I've been wanting to try canning for months. I tried it this week!!! I pressure canned chicken stock, ham bone stock, pasta fagioli (without the pasta), your cowboy candy, homemade Marinara, and today did cranberry sauce and made homemade brownies as well!!! You have inspired me so much, I've learned so much from you! Canning, preserving, baking, freeze drying, what can be frozen, what can be dehydrated, things to buy in bulk. You are a blessing to me and my family!

The biggest takeaway on this for me is the mashed potatoes in the crock pot! I have a lull time while turkey is in the oven and everything else is ready to go, but mashed potatoes are a last-minute thing, not anymore!!!!! Thanks Becky! We are celebrating our family Thanksgiving the Sunday before so that my kids and their families can do their own on Thanksgiving Day. We live about 200 miles north of you and this is the storm that littered my property with fir branches, (some of which would have been deadly had I been outside) and knocked out power for us and thousands of others - ours for 48 hours.

I also make a sausage stuffing. My family’s favorite dish and I make a huge batch. I always prep the day before, cut up all the veggies, prep those dishes, make the desserts and any appetizer I’m making. I do make my stuffing fresh the morning of and we stuff it, with a side dressing dish also. This year I have my children, who are adults, to make the side dishes. I’m still doing the stuffing and desserts. Slowly hand the reign over to them in the coming years. So satisfying to see them enjoy making the dinner they grew up with.
