- We’ve just moved into a stone cabin in Cantabria, the north of Spain. And the first days did not go as smoothly as we hoped for. All systems failed us at one point or another, and to top it all off we suddenly had no water. In this video we bring you along as we try to deal with everything, whilst also cleaning and organising, to feel a bit more settled in. Make sure to subscribe as there’s a ton of fun lifestyle and renovation content to come!

The flowers are possibly Saffron crocus which flower in the Autumn
Se llaman "quitameriendas"
@@txemibaziriarte2660 thank you, i have hiked the Camino Frances 3 times in the autumn and have seen them flowering several times.
not so negative is a good start to every day.
Don't let yourself get too stressed by trying to do too much too fast. Enjoy your life, you only get one chance at it.
At least you both had a lot of laughter out of your cold outdoor bathing experience.😂
haha yes, it was fun in a way. We were so lucky it was warm.
As fletcherbravo said: those flowers are called meadow saffron or autumn crocus - colchicum autumnale - and only flower in autumn, so not to worry. But they are poisenous.
Your home is lovely.
God’s blessings to you two!
Thank you so much!
It's important to accept and release those things you are powerless over. To give gratitude for those things that have been given. To allow source to do for you what you cannot do for yourself. Trust the journey.😊
Another lovely memory, having your hair rinsed by Wale and some freezing water.👍
I have seen everyone else usually either covers the IBC water tank with a dark cover that stops the light and algae from growing. Sometimes they paint it black.👍
Great tip! In the future I think we'll try build a bigger and better backup solution, but that is a good thing to do in the meantime.
The more you suffer the better the content 😅
But enjoying seeing your progress. Btw those are fall-blooming crocuses, no worries there! 👍
Now there's the positive spin we needed 😂❤
So much positive energy
Those purple "spring"flowers could be Colchicum autumnale, which flower in autumn.
the flowers are autum crocus, not the same as spring crocus!
Ah great to know. We were just told by a neighbour that they usually only come out in spring, but happy to learn that there is also an autumn variety 🙂
@@WaleandMe
we, in Germany, make a difference between 'Krokus' (spring) and 'Herbstzeitlose' (automn) ...
I just learned, by englsh translation, that they obviously are same family!
The flowers are crocus. There are variations that are flowering after the summer..
The water cistern needs a cover to stop the sunlight activatybacteria etc
You need a big, thick timber chopping block to add more height to the kitchen bench.
Darlin in this age we got to think/act positive & test negative. Hope you're seeing signs of spring. I think your cabin has good bones and look forward to seeing its transformation. ❤
Settling in a house like this one is like peeling an onion. You have to remove one layer at a time to reveal its true potential. It's going to be a good little home for you in the end. For the odd, deep and narrow shelving unit, I have a solution for you. I have a similar situation in my vintage RV, where a tiny closet was turned into a pantry. The simple solution that I found was to buy cheap plastic flower boxes to put on each shelf. All your pantry items can be put into the flower boxes, which can be pulled like drawers to access things all the way to the back. You can even add more shelves to the inside of the shelving unit so you can add more of these "drawers".
Thanks for tip! And yes, this home will be lovely in the long run 🥰
I have noticed a more laughing and joking since you guys have been in the new place. I think it's a huge relief that you are also so close to your land.👍❤
The flowers are autumn crocus
Regarding stress, i find it very helpful to use the mantra ‘ one thing at a time, slowly’. I keep emphasising this to myself. It really helps. Another helpful perspective iis to realise that most things do not deserve the significance we may give them. It may be worth keeping saying the word ‘trivial’ or ‘minor’ to yourself. Manage stress through pacing and perspective.
Thanks for sharing!!
Each time the two of you sit down for a meal at your picnic table, that gorgeous view must make it worth all the hard work. That swimming hole at the river is in a beautiful setting and you have it all to yourselves! My advice is set a certain number of hours a day for chores and then find enjoyment doing what makes you happy. I definitely understand wanting to get all the gross areas clean and it is looking great. The carpets really added to the homey atmosphere. Loved the dog, too.
You definitely need a petrol strimmer. It would make quick work of your overgrown vegetation.
the flowers in the grass are crocuses and there are varitieties of crocus that flower in autumn, so it might not just be the climate affecting them.
hello, the name of the flower is Colchicum autumnale and its normal, that is growing now..grow also in the spring
The carpets are beautiful, they are all unique.❤
After living there a while you will get a better understanding of what works for you and what you need to change or create. Love watching your content guys.👍❤
Thank you so much! We really appreciate having you join our journey ❤ And yes, we want to experience life here for a bit before making any big decisions, so that any work we do makes the home that much better.
Amazing video! We really love Spain and our life is quite similar than yours. We feel very identified with you, guys. It will take you years to have your dream's place to live but it will happen if you work hard.
Ah cool! Do you live in Spain as well? If so, where? And thank you for the support ❤
Great video again, you guys got so much done, and it looks like you enjoyed doing it.👍❤
Thank you!!
the spare room looks lovely, certainly doesn't look ugly, i think it's more rustic than anything & you'll slowly make it your own space
i love old cupboards as they are made with solid wood & mostly , always fixable, nothing like a bit of paint to pretty an old cupboard
thanx for sharing
Die paarse bloemetjes zijn crocuses en de gele stampers is saffraan waar je rijst mee kunt kleuren.
I just started to follow your channel a couple of days ago…your cabaña is so cute, cozy and homey, I love it😊…
wish you lots of energy and beautiful moments…
can‘t wait to go through and enjoy all your episodes🥰
Wow! What a lovely comment! Thank you so much. We're very happy to have you here with us. ❤

Hola chicos ! Habéis comprado en un sitio precioso,idílico, estoy deseando ver los avances porque seguro que os va a quedar preciosa
Mil gracias 😘❤
Wow, how awesome is your water source, love it.❤
KInd of randomly going through your videos. Very strange to see those crocuses flowering in October - totally abnormal. It looks like the house is very solid which is positive and absolutely fantastic views.
Can you give a bit of a background history to the house i.e. I gather the previous owner - an old man - died and the house was left empty? For how long?
Hi Ivan. Maybe we can give more context in a future video but here's the condensed version. This house has changed owners many times over the years, and has had many different renovations plans started and abandoned at different points. The previous owners spent the covid times here and then moved elsewhere, leaving it empty for almost two years.
I wonder if you paint the walls white if it would help not feeling so dark
I think it will help a lot yes. We'll start painting as soon as we can ☺
Avoid having compact bin too near the house. They encourage rats.
I would just tarp the wood shed for now
Yes! We're working on it 🙂
Hi all
Just started watching you guys and enjoying your videos.
We are about to set out on our own journey to Spain from England. We wanted to record the journey and wondered what you are using to film?
Currently just have IPhones.
Rob and Natalie x
Hey! If you have the latest iPhones, that can work well to start (we use our iPhone quite often). The primary camera we use is a Sony ZV-1 (first edition). Good luck with the process and the move! Very exciting!
I have just discovered you all! I’m living in Madrid but I’m on my first trip in Galicia at a farm. I’d love to do what you all are doing but my only hesitation is loneliness. Is it easy to make friends or feel connected in a town like yours? You mentioned having a friend nearby in this episode. Thanks in advance! :)
It’s not always easy if I’m completely honest. We’re lucky to have nice neighbours we can support and catch up with once in a while, but it’s not the same as having community. I do often wish there were more likeminded people around to organise dinners and fun activities with. But we always knew that would be a struggle and therefore have to come up with ways to get those moments of connection (having visitors, going away, online friends, etc.). I definitely couldn’t do it without Warner!
bit confusing. Lot better if you could number every episode in chronological order. Also have you bought the house or renting it ?
15:44 did already he know?
Where?
So then did you buy the cabin your now in?
No, we helped a loved one buy it and we'll be taking care of it and renovating it for the coming year(s). It was a win win situation ☺
