Best of Kashmir
Nestled in the Himalayan range in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, is the beautiful valley of Pahalgam. Our visit to Pahalgam was a part of our caravan vacations with family to Leh/ladakh. The journey between Srinagar to Pahalgam took about three hours, but not ever for a second we got bored. Such is the beauty of the roads.
Pahalgam is a town and a notified area committee in Anantnag district. It’s
an ideal place for an adventure sports enthusiast. It offers wonderful treks, skiing, mountaineering and camping sites.
It is apt to confess that you might struggle to find words while describing the beauty of Pahalgam. This small tourist town is surrounded by snow clad mountains, crisp conifer forests, cool blue mountain lakes and green meadows. It is no wonder than that Pahalgam is a crown jewel of Kashmir tourism. Situated at a height of 2200 meters above sea level, Pahalgam is India’s answer to the Swiss Alps. Here nature is abundant with beauty and silver lined by the diversity of its flora and fauna.
Betaab Valley
This photogenic valley has a special connect with the Bollywood. Earlier the valley was known as Hagoon, but after 1983 it derived its name from the Bollywood blockbuster - Betaab. Numerous memorable movies have been shot at this beautiful valley.
The Lidder River flows silently past the Betaab Valley. The valley is also decorated with lush meadows, pine and Deodar forests. During the Amarnath Yatra, Betaab Valley becomes a camping site for the pilgrims. But in other times of the year, you can find the tourists selecting picturesque locations to set their camps. The merits of camping in Betaab Valley are many. You would be woken by the chirping of birds, venture out of the camp and you would have a feast for eyes ready outside. If you are a photography enthusiast, you are bound to have sore fingers just by capturing the beauty of Betaab Valley. There are beauties in every nook and corner of this picture perfect valley! If you want to flex your muscles, trek or walk up to the higher altitudes amidst beautiful settings.
Aru Valley
This beguiling village in Kashmir, lies on the shores of the Aru River, and is 12 KM away from Pahalgam. Situated on the foothills of the Himalayas, you can get majestic views of the snow covered Himalayan peaks from most parts of the Aru Valley. Filled with lush pine and conifer forests that are interrupted by the beautiful meadows; Aru Valley is indeed blessed with heavenly beauty. To amplify the beauty of this village further, there are beautiful glacial lakes surrounding it. The people here are no less loving. They will win your hearts with their warm hospitality. They will be generous in offering you a warm cup of Kahwah (Kashmiri version for tea). Spend some time talking to the locals and you will have many hilly tales to carry back home.
There are different activities that tourists can engage in based on the time of their visit. During the summers, you can take walks, horse rides or treks up to higher altitudes by treading across portrait perfect landscape. While in winters, the valley adorns a thick covering of snow, making it a skiing paradise. A single visit to Aru Valley is often not enough to soak in the beauty of this valley. Camping in Aru Valley is a great experience, so you might want to take a day’s off from your Pahalgam and spend a night under the stars.

Totally Agree with you friend But you must know ours side of story also. After 40 plus years ( slogging for more then 20 years in my current job) we decided to go with our dreams of exploring our beautiful planet in our van. We firmly decided not to invest our hardearned money in a immovable asset/investments like flat/land/gold/mutualfund/savings/children marriage/social obligations which we probably would be going to use when we are 60 plus🧙♂️🧙♂️. This investment we planned deliberately on a movable asset which we are going to use fully with our family/parents/friends and spent some quality time on things we enjoy/lookforward. This van is home on wheels for us which we are going to use atleast 3-4 months in a year for next 2 years and then probably 6-8 months thereafter. Friend life is moving very fast. A day gone is gone so chase your dreams , dreams come true. The views are totally ours 😃😃😃. Take care & stay connected

Sure friend will do so. As of now new vehicle cost us 18 lakh...including private registration,insurance,cost of base vehicle and all taxes...
Modification cost us from 12 to 14 lakh. Total cost 30 to 32 lakh
If you go for a secondhand vehicle then the cost will come down to 15 to 20 lakh

How do you handle dumping of toilet waste and dirty water from sink? How do you refill the water?
Hi, toilet waste goes to black tank ( where its breaks down with tge help of chemical into watery waste) & dirty sink water goes to grey water tank and both are drained in sewer line/drains with the help of pipe. Fresh water is filled with the help of pipe from tap/any water source. Regards

Mam, I have been searching for practical and homely caravan , and I can say that in the entire India , you caravan is great . Simply saying it looks like foreign caravan. No extra glittering designs.

Glad to hear that you are intrested in motor home life. My only suggetion to you to start on a smaller scale first with small investment. Do some car camping and explore the unseen locations. If you like it then go for bigger segment vehicle/motorhome. We have been to Nagaur few months back. Lal mirch pickle of Nagaur is very delicious. Basically we are from Dehradun(Uttarakhand) but presently in Alwar ( Rajasthan). Take care

Hello, want to know the total cost that you spend on this trip
Friend actually we have not calculated but broadly major expenditure was fuel since we travelled approx 4500 km. If we take average 10 Km per litre & 100 Rs per litre then 45000. At few places we have taken homestay or hotel approx 15 K & balance food would be @ 1000 Rs per day, Total 15 K. So entire trip for 6 people between 75 K to 1 Lac. Which i belive is only 25 % of money which i would have spended if i would have gone through normal way. Airfare/Taxi/Hotels/guide/food. Most important quality time spend with family which we enjoyed in our caravan cannot be quantified by money...stay connected
