Would a virtual switch allow me to connect my Mac’s 10GbE dock directly to my 672XT 10GbE port whilst the rest of my LAN remains connected at 1GbE on one of the other 672XT 1GbE ports?
I don’t want to buy a 10GbE switch for my entire LAN when my Mac is the only device that has 10GbE.

@@QNAPUK thank you, I will try it out later. Using thunderbolt isn’t an option because I found the 672XT a little noisy for my workspace, but 10GbE should be fine (I doubt my current RAID setup will exceed 1200MBs read/write).
I’ll let you know how it goes.

@@QNAPUK It works great. Black Magic Write/Read speed tests peaking at 1050MB/s on a 4 x 10TB Seagate IronWolf RAID 5 using quTS Hero. iPerf3 continuous test reports steady 9.40Gbits/s showing the virtual switch has little to no negative impact on 10GbE performance.

Need a more into detail video with actual examples with real values. I would like to create a virtual switch using a different subnet than the NAS physical adapter but haven't found out to do this on the QNAP forums or videos. I would like to use virtualization station to create VMs and assigned them to a different subnet number within the NAS. It also would be interesting to learn how to to use the VLAN option with practical examples. Thank you.

Will it be possible at some point to have a containerstation "vm/docker" attached to a virtual switch on a VLAN? At the moment I need to assign it to the physical network adapter untagged in the VLAN I need - I cannot use tagged VLANs. - Ie. for a pihole/docker on a separate guest/kids VLAN which is different from the pihole/docker on my main LAN.

i just wanted to set up a vm on my nas. therefore i need a virtual switch. if i choose my ethernet port that is connected to my router, i cant access the nas over the ip adress of this adapter. how can i fix that?

After You attach virtual switch to physical interface, does the physical interface work exclusive for that virtual switch or is it shared with qnap nas services/system?

    Hi,
so could I use a MacBook with one 10G thunderbolt3 adapter to connect to two QNAPs mit 10G-Ports without using a physical switch?

How would I configure virtual switches/routes to allow a VM to communicate with a Container? For context, my use case is Gitlab running in a linux virtual machine (on NAS, static ip 192.168.x.x) and a Gitlab runner (docker container, 10.0.3.x). I need to register the Runner with the server so they need to communicate with each other.

Can I make port trunking as direct connection between Working Machine and NAS? Like double 5Gb connection without a switch?

how is it possible to add an docker specific network with a certain name? Normally in linux you use a command like this:
    $> docker network create --driver=bridge my-network-name
    4e7f36ef0ae50bde31eeecbc355d831e5c.............
How to handle this in the QNAP UI?

How do i connect my Qnap on the same network as i can only seem to run on one computer

If you plug your QNAP into a switch on your network... everything should be able to see it that is also plugged into that switch... including any Wi-Fi users if you also have a Wi-Fi access point/router connected to the switch.

A truly useless video that did not describe how to setup a virtual switch or why. I have the Ubuntu Linux Station and I would like to be able to login into it from my network, is that too much to ask ?

Some QNAP-UK instructional videos are very helpful.... but not this one. It spends to much time as a sales/promotional video extolling the benefits of Virtual Switches without giving examples of any Virtual Switches actually being configured. Very strange.

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

It is hard to give an example as it's such a flexible tool, you can configure it to do anything you need in most cases. We did another video on the channel about our Guardian, in that I created some Virtual Switches for use with pfSense and FreePBX that goes into a little more detail.

You spend most of the video saying what you are not going to cover. Why not stop waffling and get on with it ?

Blah, blah, blah.. when are you going to describe HOW to use virtual switches ?
