    Still processing this poem... wow. Ive read related poets,(Keroac, Burroughs,Yeats), but still find a new level of connecting this to my life every time I read/listen to it. What a time to be alive! the verge of the literary and most potent social reforms in American history. If only more people today had the balls to incite reform, or at least plant the seed......(wink wink) my generation needs to actually DO SOMETHING!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!

    Wow.... "Howl" always amazes me with its depth, and the brilliance that went into its creation. Ginsberg, you are one of the reasons I write poetry. :)

    This man is the brilliant genius that should have never departed us. Everything he wrote was an inspiration to all who wanted to understand the human mind. He proved that one man could change things. A brilliant man. He truly in his own words is Holy.

    Again I just wanted to say what a great part and great man I thought Allen Ginsberg was. I really wish I could have known him and some of the other beat writers expecially Jack Kerouac their goddess bless them all

    One must know that history of Allen Ginsberg to understand this. If you go back and research the time it was written you will understand more. This "mad man" proved the CIA was smuggling drugs years before anyone would believe him. Daniel Radcliffe will play Allen Ginsberg in the coming movie, "Kill Your Darlings". Hopefully this will get people to research his life and works. On another note....Awesome collection of his works!

    See Bukowski's 2 Flies poem, most certainly written in response:
    The flies are angry bits of life;
    why are they so angry?
    it seems they want more,
    it seems almost as if they
    are angry
    that they are flies;
    it is not my fault;....

    One of my favorite songs, I Should Be Allowed to Think by They Might be Giants, was loosely based on this poem. It quotes the first line of the poem.

    Gary Snyder was the only 'Beat' poet who actually bothered to study what he wrote in his poetry. To be honest, the orientalism in Ginsberg's poetry is pretty evident. These guys were not as 'Beat' as you might think. Read Mailer's White Negro for a very good analysis of the Beat Poets. The romanticization of the 'quint essential' American Negro. Read Amiri Baraka's take on it. But in saying all this, Ginsberg et el were persecuted for their beautiful and explicit honesty. They were brilliant!

      Ginsberg used alot of profanites in his work but if u can look past it its really brilliant, he was a counter culture icon, and profanties are only something culture has deemed as wrong, but in reality words are just words

      It is a hell of a drug but im just feeling your not picking up what hes puttinf down theres a alot of metaphors to ciry life and ancient semitic culture and alot of the reference are about friends of gingsberg you kinda have to be informed about thw beat genereation to fully understand this poem
