Well it bypasses the bottleneck at Singleton traffic lights, but has added two extra sets of lights ( three if you include what was Skippool roundabout ), and still connects to single carriageway roads at both ends so just moves the congestion along a bit, and anyone trying to get Over Wyre has to make a dogleg🤥 That bridge - I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of housing estates sprouting either side of it in a few years...
Ah yes the 150 or whatver million pound project by professional highway engineers defo got it wrong, the random man in poulton knows best! And yes course there will be housing estates, surely you understand that’s why it’s been built in the first place?
The farmer who used to have land for sheep/cattle ended up with a blooming great road being build down the middle of it. He needs to graze his cattle in various pastures to keep them healthy - soooo - they have to build a bridge between the sections of his fields. The man with the dog can use it too!!!
As you drove under the footbridge in question I saw it was quite wide so maybe used for livestock as well as dog walkers? The new road is certainly a massive improvement. The jams on the old road were legendary! Another great video Steve - many thanks.
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always that road is well busy the problem is with roads like that there will be too many accidents have a great day xx
Thanks for another video Stephen,. I really like those parking bays can see them coming in handy for the truckers. Would have loved to see millionaires row, love the variations of the houses they have round the Blackpool area.😊😊😊
Hello, it is a 70 mph road (carriageways separated by barriers and nsl sign)- the right of way is a bridlepath so has to take horses (OS map)- also fun fact: Apparently that bridge was orginally built in the wrong location and had to be moved to this current one!! (that's from a builder- seems to be little info online).
Don't forget the nice houses on Skippool Road Stephen, such as Ashley Hall, Thornton Hall and the old Illawalla which was sadly demolished in 1996. The River House on Skippool Creek is also nice.
I lived at Preese Hall farm on Weeton Barracks in the early 60's. It was occupied by the RAF then. The farm was owned by the Loftus family. It is mainly small industrial units now. One of the units is occupied by the Black Powder Spirit Co. and is owned by John Loftus. I would think that bridge is for cattle..the high sides are to prevent any from jumping over if they get spooked by the traffic...have a drive to the farm Stephen..I would love to see it again.
I thought something similar as its a fairly heavy gauge bridge. Also it's probably has been a public right of way for hundreds of years also so it has to be preserved as such?
We have seen that change over the last couple of years when coming up from Wales, we avoid the promenade for obvious reasons. Nice to see it has been completed, in November there were somewhat delays but better than the main drag.
Speaking of Little Singleton (Well Singleton in general) i've been listening to someone that is local to me who did a podcast on the Singleton Bank rail crash.
Looks great mate thanks for sharing I've drive to Fleetwood on that old road and drive tho all the road works but even tho it looks great now it was ok before
Little Singleton was a funny junction with a petrol station. A crossroads south on the B road to Singleton, east towards Garstang, west to Blackpool, and north to Fleetwood, well that road was almost west.
I was extremely pessimistic that this new road would improve traffic flow but I have to say so far I'm quite impressed with it and I'm finding it saves a considerable amount of time to get from Great Eccleston to Blackpool or Fleetwood. As its a 70mph speed limit for the most part the slight delays when you cross the Poulton Road are more than outweighed by the higher speed you can achieve. The old road was either 50mph or 40mph and single carriageway and there was virtually nowhere you could overtake or get up to speed because of the volume of traffic.which queued for most of the time at the Shell Garage traffic lights. For me it would have been an improvement to have had a flyover where it crosses Poulton road but obviously would have added to the cost. The footbridge that goes from nowhere to nowhere is a complete mystery. How you can even get onto it is a mystery.
The footbridge is for a right of way...probably went to the shore ( ships used to come up ) to link with the community inshore. Of course its been made to accommodate pushchairs and those with mobility issues..hence the ramp.
There’s no mystery about the bridge. It maintains the public footpath from the Grange Farm area of Singleton to Pool Foot Lane, crossing the old main road. OS Pathfinder Series of GB, Blackpool Area, sheet SD 32/33.
I was born in Poulton so often return , had a break while all this construction going on but now feel the need to return once more and find my bearings . I've been told the Fish House in Fleetwood now closed...is this true ?
Apparently that foot bridge built with disabled ramps connects pedestrians cyclists from Poolroot lane over to the decommissioned garstang new road ,safely ..after all they could once get to see their friends by just crossing over a traffic lighted road once upon a time.
Give it a go from Shard Bridge. Apparently the lead designer did not know where Over Wyre was. It shows. It now takes longer and more miles to get to the motorway from here. Yay progress! And all it does is makes a bottle neck on Fleetwood Road. And Singleton village now has more traffic through flow from Blackpool and Over Wyre avoiding the extra traffic lights and distance. Go figure.
Unfortunately the bridge is so that when the green fields either side are new housing estates there is already a crossing in place over the bypass. Sad but true. That said, it’s a fair distance from the most populated areas so they need to build somewhere I guess.
The day it opened I actually ran its full length both ways at midnight so I could say I was the first person to unofficially use it on the day it opened. 2.62 miles each way.
Just a quick request next time you go past the reflex bar in Blackpool on the seafront can you look to see if it’s open or looks lightly to open as it says temp close on Google thanks for that
I’ve not seen it open since last year. I’ll probably do a video about it soon as it’s on one of the oldest sites of human habitation known in Blackpool.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool ohh really never knew that ohh not even been open this year or for Xmas Emm strange wonder why Google says temp shut or is it Facebook Emm one of emm says temp close

The bypass was requested by ferry companies years ago. Too late now, the ferry companies have gone elsewhere! Well done Fylde!
Great video, nice to see a road without any potholes.
Won’t be long before there are accidents. The cars were flying . Great video as always ❤
I think it’s meant to be 70mph in places, but supposed to be limited to 50mph for time being. Mind, they did seem to be doing motorway speed there.
cars tend not to fly these days
Thanks Stephen for sharing another great video much respect for all the videos love from Dublin

The road does not travel at 70mph. It is a stationary road. It DOES NOT MOVE
Well actually I think you'll find it's actually moving around 1000mph, or 67,000 mph all depends on your frame of reference... 😂@@simonhampson5082

It's just a public right of way for pedestrians, cyclists and also provides disabled access for wheelchairs, I don't think there's anything else to it

It was built by National Highways rather than the council as the A585 is a Trunk Road. That could be the reason why its a National Speed limit.
Great video Steven keep up the good work👍
