Curt is great and brings a lot to the ASL world. Love his philosophy from the business end and transparency. And thrilled that he’s spearheading a desert war HASL which has been neglected for decades. I have actually bought a lot of the ATS modules to get desert scenarios.
Scenarios should have always been identified as levels of difficulty. say 1-3. 1 being "No Tricks to know" 2 being terrain/SSR/VC have a great impact on "basic" play 3 "OB/SSR etc have a hidden trick/consideration for you have ANY chance of winning" This could always help out selecting scenarios for a multitude of purposes.
There was a time when it was an art to determine which side is favored in a scenario and knowing which rule set to use to win. With your printed handicap you just took this fun out of the scenario and threw it into a round basket.
@@georgehiotisrofl I’ve watched hundreds of games and as Curt said, many were lost at setup. How many scenarios with 4 or 5 Sherman’s not even attempting a smoke or sD? I don’t want to spend to 6 hours realizing the only real way to win is substituting out a fort. Build allocation for a tunnel leading to a hip personnel to win at the end. Difficulty ratings also, allow the vast PT groups to not give the lower skilled players that game to PT as the results are not going to be “balanced” between the intended customer. Aka the BigBoy Club One could always ignore the rating as they do with routing rules.
Regarding SK vs ASL, I've taught a number of players in Taiwan (plus other places in SE Asia via VASL). Naturally, I started them off on SK, and bearing the language hurdle involved, I expected that most of them would stick with SK, and maybe just a few would transition to ASL. However, it didn't go this way at all. Firstly, just about all the players went to ASL, and secondly, they did so after only a handful of SK scenarios. A few players went straight to ASL without any SK at all, too.
One further point regarding the Danish 20L guns (and it somewhat underlines Curt's point about details). The lowering of the B number also activates (as I read it) A.11, so for IFE it's B11 for VTT, B10, X11 for IFE. Details, details, details.....
35:45 Curt says there is a location where he thinks it's imperative the Danes set up a Gun. To be fair, that is (just) one person's opinion, but...if it is imperative that the Danes set up a Gun in a specific spot, then that implies the Danes lose (or at best put themselves in a deep hole) _unless_ they find the one spot. Moreover, he says that there is a "really, really, tricky LOS..." With no other information, that sounds like poor scenario design. Note that a lot of scenarios with Guns can be lost on poor placement of said Gun. This is different: I can't think of a scenario that _requires_ a specific placement to have a fighting chance.
Excellent. Being in the EU/UK. I want to say thanks for thinking of us and the massive costs we face to purchase asl products. I love the starter kit , and new to the process I think this is how I am looking at trying to break into full asl. Looking forward to historical starter kit campaigns. I also applaud your pride in making all in USA , Inthe EU I believe the same but china offers cheap costs and the USA and EU unfortunately should counter that... But that's another area. We need to get the young involved , it's tough, but TH-cam is the seller, Neil and his vids really help. Finally, solitaire asl starter kit , today there are many who play solitaire and that's a path. Thanks for this and I look forward to all pre order.
The "reluctance to move to ASL" that Curt is talking about might not exist in reality. What does occur is that Beyond Valor is more OOP than anything else (at least from my POV) and there is actually an "impossibility to move to ASL". Build a highway and people will use it... Make sure your gatekeeper(!) game is in print and more people will move to ASL.
As a client, I am happy to hear that Doomed Battalions is 30 to 60 days away from being finalized, but you will forgive me if I say that I will believe it when I see it.
Your wallet is filled with devalued currency (courtesy of the Inflation Reduction Act and other insane government deficit spending boondoggles) which loses more value every day. Be happy to get some tangible goods in exchange for that inflated paper.

Thanks, Neal, for getting this up promptly.
My first time listening to Roundtable Discussion. This has inspired me to teach more ASL to people.
Neal, thanks much for getting this posted in such a timely fashion
My pleasure!
Thanks Curt and Neal, always informative and inspiring! :-)

I really enjoyed the information here.

Great stuff. I love the WBC idea. Also excited about the SASL reprint.
LOTS to consider from this episode! Great stuff! Thanks MMP! And thanks Neil!
Great tips and strategy discussion Curt.

I would have bought Beyond Valor 2 months ago if it were in stock. The fact Beyond Valor isn't always in stock is inexcusable.
I agree. Rulebook, charts, and BV should ALWAYS be in stock.
@@ASLAcademy Anyway, that is why I'm sticking with SK :) Love the channel!

I generally agree with the last part of your statement. DB is that last reprint module I need.

Doomed battalions I’m hoping comes soon
