    I got to sing with him once at a protest march of course. The GOP was in Manhattan to renominate "W" Bush. I was by myself and joined the march at the first place available once I got off the subway. There I was in lie with Pete Seeger who had a giant recorder with him, three Quaker gentlemen who had marched everywhere including Selma with Dr. King, and a young black man with a guitar. While we waited for the march to start we sang. It was the best day of my life!

      Agreed put points off because Pete was unapologetically'& obviously admittedly a communist. I suppose that's allowed in a true democracy. Not sure we live in a true democracy actually. Also, it could be added that Pete Seeger was a product of his times, as we all are. Someone like me born in 1955 won't truly appreciate or understand what someone like Pete went through & viewed through his own lenses to the world & filters. Nonetheless, the man made no apologies for being a communist. BTW, I'm a old school lib--not a conservative by any stretch.

    • @tomdalzell2407

    To think we were alive when Pete Seeger lived, is a remarkable thought. He enriched humanity in ways we can only dream about. I am an atheist, yet I am happy to say that we were blessed by his presence, his music, his views on life and his commitment to equality, love, life and peace.

      So true brother. On this little planet during the same time in history. Maybe not be considered important right now, but in 100's or 1000's of years, my goodness it will matter.

    • @tomdalzell2407
      @tomdalzell2407 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seeger did NOT enrich humanity. An avowed Communist, he peddled one of the evil ideologies ever plagued upon mankind.

    • @neckthrough1

      He certainly did enrich humanity. We need more people like Pete Seeger.

    • @SandfordSmythe
      @SandfordSmythe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomdalzell2407 Communism was a common ideology among artists and intellectuals during the Depression era. He "peddled" the positive values of it .I'm not saying it wasn't evil in the long run and that Stalin didn't call the shots in the Communist Party USA. His participation was a long time ago -80 years, and he and and Woody are part of the American heritage. He pulled away when the facts about Stalin came out. I think it is unfair to toss out his positive contributions because of it, just like I am uncomfortable to pretend he was just only a "social activist". I think the left has to come to grips with the later.

    What was remarkable - when Pete was performing with Arlo he was in his 50's and 60's - they would alternate about every 3-5 songs. Arlo would sit in a chair but Pete would usually sit on the stage. I'm in my early 60's and I can barely sit down on the floor, let alone get up.

    Love Pete, but he should have learned a little bit about Spanish if he was going to adopt this song. Firstly, rolling one's r's is not something done willy-nilly, as Pete does. It has significance in terms of word meaning. He just rolls them for fun, in places where it is not proper pronunciation. .
