Thanks a million for a thorough tutorial. Could you kindly address potential risks, if any, of connecting the wallet to your computer? Are they negligible, or are they rather substantial enough to avoid a cable connection altogether?
Thanks Ben! Request- "The Q" in air gapped, stateless mode, using both words and seedQR to show the flexibility. Preferably with Blue wallet on mobile (or BS Green if they ever enable seedQR!).
Just finished watching this whole video. Excellent as always Ben you are a great teacher! You also look, speak, and sound exactly like a friend I met in university ten years ago who is also a teacher now and smart as heck like you LOL hilarious! Could easily be long lost brothers lol Thanks again! Amazing Content keep it coming! Cheers!
So this would get rid of using ledger wallet all together then correct? Like you could not use this device with ledger acting as (sparrow wallet) I am assuming...?
Hi Ben. Would it be possible to create a video showing multisig options and signing with camera+screen? Does the Q generate transaction QR Codes or only PSBT files? Many thanks!
Very nice, I get confused about having your bitcoin actually stored on your device but this cleared it up, so it really does stay on your SD card then correrct?
Ben thanks. What I didn't see is how I would get my CCQ going with a Sparrow wallet that already has sats to be moved to the CCQ. I don't think that was covered. Did I miss something?
Thanks, yours is the first review I have seen on this. Could that data cable connection be an area of security compromise? For future videos could you demonstrate the other areas of signing the transaction, namely NFC and SD card transfer (and anything else)? I understand it has two sd card slots. If only I had a Bitcoin or two to use this thing that would be grand? Nevertheless, I enjoyed this review and look forward to subsequent ones.
do you need to diversify devices? I understand that the seeds are compatible but what about hardware/software/firmware implementation vulnerabilities of the manufacturers? For example...would it be smart to have a Terzor, Coldcard, & a Tangem for example... or really any number of X, Y, Z devices ?
Thank you Ben. I purchased a MK 4 recently and am still getting used to it, but found this video very informative too. One question: I purchased a magnetic UBC/C cord with my MK 4. You mentioned that the magnetic cord does not transmit data and a conventional cord is required. Does this mean that if I am plugged into my PC with the magnetic cord I cannot send with it?
I'm not Ben but that is correct: the magnetic cord is intentionnaly for power only. Ideally you never plug your Mk4 into a computer and do everything air gapped either by NFC or with the SD card.
REMEMBER, 12 WORDS IS ENOUGH Because as Andreas Antonopoulos and Adam Back said, Bitcoin elliptic curve security is only 128 bits anyway (12-words = 128bits while 24 words = 256bits). Using 24 words is like typing a "100 characters long password", when the machine will check only the first 20 characters of the password anyway.
Nothing against sparrow, but I’d rather use a Wallet on my phone, simply have my phone handy. So I’ve been researching what watch only wallets work with android and iOS.
Interesting, however I wouldn't buy it. I heard so many issues about their after sale service, Quality control, No support and No update for Older model (Mk.1 Mk.2) , shipping delay or missing, no refund policy etc.
Well I did purchase a colcard Q and followed this video. It was fine right up to sparrow wallet reommendation. Downloaded that on my mac fine but was then confused with the public server we should use as they had writing saying that it was not ideal for privacy. Yikes. The reason I got the colcard was for maximum privacy and security. So the sparrow wallet was very confusing and it stopped me cold in my tracks for setting up things. Maybe better explanation or other wallet suggestions would help but unfortunately this tutorial failed me.
By default any Bitcoin wallet will use a public server until you run your own. This is something you can do eventually but you should not let it deter you from using Bitcoin in the meantime. When you eventually run your own node, I quite like the ones by Start 9. Just pick any of the servers Sparrow has listed here. They are hand selected for having publicly stated they don't collect any data. Just to be clear, EVERY Bitcoin wallet is using a public server if you aren't running one and manually connecting to it yourself. It's just that no wallets other than Sparrow make you aware of this upon setup.
Buyers beware. I put in a reservation with this company for the presale of the Q for $199 back in April 2024. Somehow CK charge my card but they lost my reservation. CK finally found it after 4 months of back and forth but I now have to pay the difference an extra $20. What’s the point of reservation if they aren’t going to honor it? Plenty of other options out there.
This video is just one of the tutorials I'm doing on the device. It is the most simplistic option of how to use the device. I also disagree that it should never be used via usb. A coldcard used via this method may be marginally less secure than the air-gapped options, but it's still better than many other hardware options on the market, and miles ahead of a hot wallet or worse... leaving money on an exchange.
*Excellent content! I really do have a question. For someone with less than $10,000 to trade, How would you recommend we enter into trading as a newbie? I am looking at trading with professional trader and copying their strategies rather than trading myself and losing money emotionally. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.*
Wow!!! I'm not shocked that Mr Morris name was mentioned and recommended. I learn and earn through he's analysis. Which speaks volumes about him. I wonder if he trade with magic. 8k made last week.
Maybe don't buy it in the first place. The company is not ethical. They lie about what they have in stock and actual shipping times. Bitcoiners should reject these practices as most of us have adopted BTC for ethical reasons
your spending 7 minutes with intro. Why not tell people they can fast forward to where you actually begin? This stuff is deathly boring enough unless your a nerd. If you truly want people to invest in BTC which could be a life saving exercise over the next 5 years you may want to market this with simplicity and directness in mind.
The video is 57 minutes long, with a 3 minute sponsor section near the front. Timestamps are included so anyone can jump to the next section. Feel free to use those to jump ahead. If it's deathly boring then you're welcome to seek out less in-depth content that are 15 minutes long and may miss important parts. I specialize in creating very detailed tutorial videos and it is the content I prefer to create. My goal is to cater to those who wish to sink some time into proper education in the age of short attention spans and 60 second videos.
I’ll never touch a cold card again after owning the mark 3 and 4. Bad product and even worse customer service. Bad quality control on the units. Won’t exchange non working devices. Won’t refund. A step backwards in tech. Query keyboard? Come on. Lots better options out there even for multisig these days. Don’t fall for these advertisements
Sorry you had a bad experience, but I genuinely love and use my Coldcards all the time. My mk1 had issues with the keys, but other than that I've had quite a good experience with other products.
@@BTCSessions you also get free stuff from then and brag about it. I spent over $1000 usd with them partially based on your videos and am very unhappy. Won’t touch cold card in the future. I wanted to use their products for multisig and now they’re collecting dust. Your videos using the nfc on the mk4 are misleading. I’m sure you had issues behind the scenes and wanted to make it look easier than it is. Other users are advised to avoid cold card and coin kite especially those in USA
I have to agree. I would never touch their garbage again. Although this Q is something they should have built from the start instead of making people buy the Mk3 and Mk4 which are both garbage. There is nothing innovative about the Q which is why they should have built it years ago. I remember in the past Rodolfo was hell bent against all the feature like QR codes but now realises they won't sell sh1t if they don't at least try and modernise. I guarantee they will go bust or disappear if they don't adopt Altcoins. The game has moved on. No one in this space wants to use 20 different brands of wallets to do their thing. Keystone Pro 3 is the best hardware wallet on the market right now. I'm just looking forward to when they can add NFC technology to it as well. The game has moved on there are better hardware wallets out there. Coldcards are no more secure or safer than any other hardware wallets despite the BS Rodolfo spews out.

Can you make a video about the new features of the Q like QR Code scanning and others?
Good to see Blackberry is back. 😂
I just set up my cold card Q last night! It is amazing! I love it thanks for this video!
Totally worth the money.
Hit 200k today. Thank you for all the knowledge and nuggets you had thrown my way over the last months. Started with 14k in last month 2024
Wow that's huge, how do you make that much monthly?
I'm 37 and have been looking for ways to be successful, please how??

Can you do a tutorial on transfering Bitcoin from Ledger wallet to fully air gapped Q wallet?
Fantastic vid as always!! Cheers to you and your great work!

When else would you use the alpha keys other than wallet recovery, and maybe passphrase?
When is the release date? It has been on pre order a very long tine. Also i do not see any discount code from this you tube channel

Helpful as usual. Topic: transitioning from MK4 to Q

Hey Ben my cold card q just came but it was just in a box. The box is sealed but I’m concerned it isn’t in a bag like you showed. …
This looks awesome. However I must admit that with a colour screen, I was expecting more than just yellow on black text everywhere 😢
Can you go over how to add a passphrase Q

I think 24 words are necessary to implement BIP-85 seed phrase store management.
