      Good call if you can find an early 70$ chassis!

    Nice work and good reminder to check the inspection date on your fire extinguisher regularly - I must go and check my workshop extinguishr now!

      Dominic Peterson Yes! Best tip ever. That needs to work when you need it. Mine was at least 9 years old I never used it.

    Moving along quickly now 👍 I wish we could purchase Aircraft Stripper here in the U.K. ☹️ Keep up the great work 🤗

      Mark Shepherd Oh bummer that stuff isn't available where you are. Just more elbow grease needed I guess.

      Garage Time - Auto Resto Yep, unfortunately the good paint strippers were banned over here several years back as it contained Dichloromethane which was used as a general anaesthetic in victorian era and is incredibly toxic if breathed in... I guess we have EU regulations BS to blame for that 🤷‍♂️

    A very interesting video. Are you concerned that removing so much steel is going to weaken the car to the point that you'll have much less protection in an accident than Porsche originally engineered into the car? Thanks.

      Thanks! The material removed backdates the car to the previous year, 1973. 1974 included the impact bumpers to comply with the US 5 mph crash test. So my car won't pass this test, but in terms of my safety in a larger crash, I don't think this bumper metal makes a difference. The engine and rear roll cage should offer some needed protection. I worry more about a front or side collision in a Porsche.

      I know what you mean. With all of the distracted drivers on the road and the drunks it's more dangerous than ever. I would still wonder if all of the material you have removed would weaken the structure. German engineering is pretty thorough so removal of steel would be a big concern for me and others.

    Those look like RSR bumpers, wider than RS

      Must be RSR. Good call.

      Garage Time - Auto Resto Are you sure you have the correct 1973 Rs rear fenders? Looks like a narrow body from the video?

    • @GarageTimeAutoResto
      @GarageTimeAutoResto  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Powers Hi, you are correct theses fenders in the video are the original narrow body fenders. I'm going to replace them with RS flares In a future video. My biggest concern is the width at the tailights. I don't like the shelf sticking out near the tail lights created by bumper. The RS flares are wider but they won't affect the area around the lights.

      Garage Time - Auto Resto Makes sense, maybe you should install the correct fender widths before trimming the bumper? But yes it won’t change around the lights, good point! Keep up the great videos! Love it

      Agree. This week I'm finishing the rear latch area and I might have a steel license panel in time to trial fit. Then its on to the rear fenders which will be interesting on my budget.
