Thank you Peter, Bec, Rara and everyone else involved for providing a real photography channel. So many other photographers(?) create endless talkfest channels. It makes me wonder when was the last time they picked up their cameras.
Peter, thanks for the tutorial. I also LOVE the walls you made. I have a small studio, so I constantly have to redesign and paint my walls for almost every creative shoot :)
Glad you made this video Peter Coulson! Its been emphasized how the larger the light source the softer it gets or seems, but at the same time someone like You with so much experience can make it work regardless. Good that you also specified that when you travel the Gear is smaller but still can get the same effect. Thank you so much for taking the time and show us so much great technique in your wonderful channel!
Love these videos. So much information and all without trying to sign me up to squarespace or make me buy a new camera. Peter is a top notch photographer/teacher. And Bec is cool too 👍🏻
Light work is an art and something that requires a lot of sensitivity. in color photos we must have the knowledge of color composition and in black and white photos we must have the same knowledge, but in grayscales. his work Peter Coulson with black and white is fantastic. Thank you for this wonderful class.
Love your videos Peter (and Bec!) You're an Aussie inspiration, amazing work, great informative content, and just a pleasure to watch. Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do here!
But the size of soft boxes DOES actually matter. Yes, you get the same shadows BUT the quality of the light in the transitions and how diffuse the shadows are IS ABSOLUTELY impacted by the size of the soft box. I upgraded from 36" square to 60" octagonal soft boxes awhile back and absolutely noticed the difference in the light. I found the exact same style photo with the same lighting setup but with the larger soft boxes qualitatively looked better. Now, true, sometimes you may intentionally want the effect of a smaller soft box, but in many cases larger soft boxes will result in higher quality light. Plus, of course, larger boxes allows you to light larger spaces more evenly if you need to get more people into the shot.
Straightforward explanation with pertinent examples of feathering and use of smaller modifiers. Best explanation I've seen and made sense to me. Thank you. Who was the designer you spoke about for the outfit ?
U R Livin The Life,, Im older n I remember Life Back Then !!!! Thx For the Memories, Still Have My old Norman Lights n Modifiers,,, Go away Covid ! maybe I still can do it again ;) ;) ;)
Good evening Peter, I'm always amazed by your lighting technique, the secret is the tunnel of light that you make in front of the model?, regardless of the size of the absence of bounce modifier, it's really fantastic, hugs from Brazil, I'm still going to test this technique :) ))
Sir how do you not have more subscribers? I found your information/explanations to be very valuable and easy to understand. Thank you and I appreciate all the content.
Great, I learn something new every time I watch your videos. However; it might sound naive, but I have never used any lens that has up to F8 aperture. Possibly my video centric world has created a one sided look at lighting. All the best Roland.
Kind of funny I just ordered the Godox 16" beauty dish for my AD 200 Pro. I figure to get the look I want it will have to be no farther than 2' from the models face. Hoping this works good on windy beach locations.
Thanks Peter. I am starting to rent a studio space that doesn’t have much equipment so it is interesting to see how the effects are achieved with a suitcase of my lighting gear. In general, I see you lighting with your Octa-boxes; when do you use other source set-ups like adding grids, or strip lights or bare bulb (or don’t you?)? Best to you, Bec and Ra-Ra...
So was this about lighting 😎... FYI, you should know, don't open that door for Bec, she'll step through & steal the show. And, she didn't have her glass of wine. 🤣🤣🤣
Little confused I thought it was double the rule if you're shooting at 30 fps to shutter speed has to be 1/60 no? I'm talking about the video settings not necessarily the photography setting
Clarity up texture down . awesome tip thank you peter . everyday is a school day as the saying goes . keep up the fantastic work . love the vids . oh and pass a wine to B from me lol . as ya do lol
Peter, interested in your edit settings, and have a stupid question - once you put in the settings on the first image, is the software able to retain the settings for subsequent shots or do you need to edit each, or create a preset?
All our gear is in the description, Camera model: Hasselblad H6D-50c Lens: Hasselblad 150mm Shutter-speed: 1/160 Aperture: f/8 Iso: 100 ps the camera is not the most important thing :)
My apologies you are correct the camera is not the most important thing. I don't know anything about Hasselblads if you don't mind what could be the closest Thing on the Mamiya or phase one 645 series I have several 645 and Rz lenses.
It's not the same shadow at all dude. You can't deny what a large surface is going to do with the shadow compared to a smaller one. It's like saying doing shadow puppets would work the same with a single light bulb or a wall of light bulbs. I'm guessing the soft feathering is what people were referring to when saying smaller softboxes wouldn't work the same way.
As for the “welcome to ‘our’ craziness” at the start, most of the crazy comes from you Bec, the only crazy thing Peter does, is to pay you with liquid wages. But without the Bec craziness, the channel wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun. 😉
@@Lucy-dk5cz I drive an older car, if it ain't broken i'm not replacing it, only has 138 000km on it & it's great condition for 14 years old!. As a matter of fact my camera gear is worth 3-4X the car lol.

Thank you Peter, Bec, Rara and everyone else involved for providing a real photography channel. So many other photographers(?) create endless talkfest channels. It makes me wonder when was the last time they picked up their cameras.
Thanks Steven :)
Most of them do pick a lot of cameras, they know how to use them but they have no clue about photography.
Yea??
Welcome.
Super helpful demonstration of the effects of multiple size differences of soft boxes. Really enjoyed this thanks Peter.
Very welcome, thanks for watching

Thanks for this

i just love bec´s giggle after her its how u use it. and Thank u peter and bec for the amazing videos :)
Bec couldn't resist the "size doesn't matter" joke 😂
Thanks for that explaining that Peter makes a lot of sense.

@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer Peter you mention about CaptureOne Pro 21 has now shadow fill, is that right? I couldn't see it in CaptureOne Pro 21

Thank you! people of the internet..
great insight to lighting always gives more options to consider with my work.

You are welcome thanks
Great demonstration... thank you for all your effort... have a good week...

Yeah but not everyone has the space to use one that big :)
Top quality instruction and demonstration.
Thank you kindly!
Square images makes a difference 🥰
Great work Peter..i always learn something....thanks
Very welcome
So the answer like most things in life is: yes, kinda ,maybe, no.
Best thing is Becs giggle.

Excellent use of the term "shotgun". Who says that you can't teach an old "not a model" new tricks?
Actually very informative Peter.

Glad you enjoyed it Michael
I know in Europe it's a bit different
Can we have a video, where Bec is doing the photography part (incl concept and technology explaining) and have Peter assist?
Luv to see that one day.
Thanks 🙏

Peter, interested in your edit settings, and have a stupid question - once you put in the settings on the first image, is the software able to retain the settings for subsequent shots or do you need to edit each, or create a preset?
So if you're shooting at 1/60th of a second I'm assuming you're shooting at 30fps
I was shooting at 1/160 of a second but if I shot at 1/50 of a second that would be 30fps
Good info

awesome and she's so cute
Don't let Bec get away with her smart a$$ comment at 3:15. I suggest a penalty box, and no wine for 48 hours.
Bec, how the hell do you manage to do anything with those nails?
She can surprisingly do most things :)
Phocus software=camera specific? I ask because seeing it on your screen & you mention 90% of the editing you did can be done with C1.
Yes I can't use Hasselblad with C1 but I could do about 90% of this look with C1 and Sony
