Southland Shopping Centre circa 1990

Here is a short film I made at a shopping centre (probably Southland), circa 1990. Featuring the fashions of the day, including indoor smoking. At one point I get asked to move on… but I don’t comply. A real treat for shopping centre enthusiasts.

I loved going to Southland when I was a kid back in the days when it was square shaped. One day when we were there they were advertising a bed mattress with Abigail underneath the sheets. They asked for a volunteer from the crowd to test it out with Abigail and dad jumped in. I also remember when this new American junk food place opened up right next door called Mcdonald's. My favorite thing at Southland was to watch the donut place making donuts. Life was simpler back then.

Yes that's Southland. Spent my youth there in mid to late 90s there as I lived in East Bentleigh. I remember when they banned indoor smoking in 93 or 94. Good old snow deli used to be a big chain of delicatessens till they went bust in the early 90s. Southland was much easier to navigate before they extended across Nepean Highway back in the late 90s

These days fashion just severely repeats itself. In the early 90s track pants had cuffs, and then cuffs disappeared mid 90s. Now after a long break, cuffs are back since 2016. Lol

Neat but seems a little pervy filming the people and not the stores. Does show the fashion styles though.

Back in the day, all this pc crap didn't exist. It was just a person filming stuff and not considered to be a peverted act, lol. Seriously that's where your mind went?
