Just made this, minus the celery and half n half. Add a little more flour to onions and butter to account for the dary. Old Bey and herbs, salt to taste.
You can replace the ranch seasoning with a mix of garlic powder, onion powder, dried dill, and a pinch of parsley for a similar flavor. Or try Cajun seasoning if you want a bit of a kick!
Butter is so important in chowder it really is but you could use less butter. I like healthy too but if you drink something with acid or even a pickle would work it breaks it down the fat and flushes it out of your system, so butter is not to bad really, once in awhile.
Well doesn’t that look good. My spouse is lactose sensitive, especially to heavy cream or even full fat half and half in any quantity. Instead, I use milk or low fat half and half and supplement with a bit of Greek yogurt. Cooking with yogurt is tricky, but she can tolerate that better.
That's a great modification for lactose sensitivity! Greek yogurt can add a creamy texture and a tangy flavor that complements the dish nicely. It's wonderful that you've found a way to make the recipe work for your spouse's dietary needs.
Very clever recipe. Seems like the chowders have a lot in common. 🍲
