    The newton meter can make power calculations easier. If you have the torque in newron meters and speed in radians per second you just have to multiply them together to get the power in watts. To convert rotational speed from rpm to radians per second, multiply by pi and divide by 30 (or if you only need an approximate figure, just divide by 10).
    I suspect that most car and motorcycle enthusiasts will never accept tachometers that read in radians per second.

    • @marco23p
      @marco23p 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The factor pi/30 comes from:
      From rpm to rotations per second: division by 60
      From rotations to radians: multiply by 2*pi
      Just as some extra background information :)

    • @robotcantina8957
      @robotcantina8957  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Indeed, the original insight was a very well thought out car. My only issues is the gear ratios in the transmission. Seems like a lot of other folks don't like the ratios and there are a few mods that can be done to make the car more drivable.

    • @IstasPumaNevada
      @IstasPumaNevada 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First-gen Insight was designed with efficiency as a priority, which sacrificed most other things like cargo weight limit, number of seats, acceleration, doo-dads, etc. It was still available with air conditioning. :)
      The car was basically Honda's test-bed for new hybrid and efficiency technologies, so they threw everything at the wall to see what would stick.

    Boost vs air volume are 2 different subjects. You're moving the same amount of air, but seeing less boost due to the loss of heat from the intercooler.

    The IMA motor on insights and civic hybrids have the advantage of delivering instant torque at any rpm so while 20 ft lbs isn't much the gas motor only makes about 90 ft lbs at a certain rpm band and that's a noticeable increase when you're getting 20%+ more torque. I love my 03 civic hybrid it feels quick when you drive it hard because of that extra oomph the IMA adds and manual transmissions are an amazing Duo of fun and tech that gets me 40+ mpg when I do drive it more civilized

    I think people sould think a but as the mechanical injection diesel had a after cooler plumb up to the radiator. So then it has a common in take temperature no matter how hot or cold the weather was so then you can tune the mechanical pump for that intake temperature. So it stabel in any condition. Just like the 1156 Cummings and big cam engine both have a after cooler on them which is not like a water to air or air to air its has the hot water out the radiator running through it but. It make sense as a where a ecu controller diesel just like a ecu on a petrol has all the sensors to change the amount of diesel for any conditions like radiator temp and intake temp speed rpm where a mechanical pump don't have any like that. But love these videos as I think that that little diesel seem to run grate and looks way fun to make something like this be side trying to get a small diesel for a good price

    Under Montana Law, you need to pass a three point inspection (headlights, tail lights, and brakes) for the vehicle to be registered and all of them need to be in operational condition. Technically you can drive a rolling chassis with head lights and tail lights and brakes, it be weird, but you can do it.

    If you put a suitable turbo on it instead of the supercharger and allow for a bit of extra boost (probably as much as it that small thing can muster) and a bit higher exhaust temps, just for limited periods of time to avoid parts soaking and overheating, via simple microcontroller or some such and electric fuel rail adjustment - you could most definitely gain quite a bit of performance accelerating.

    • @robotcantina8957

      @@heinzhaupthaar5590 The turbo took too long to spool and on gear change the boost would drop off too much. Without the needed boost the EGT's would go up much faster than expected. With the supercharger we have instant boost on each gear change and can manage the EGT's better. I'm sure there may be a more suitable turbo out there, but its way beyond our budget.

    5:48 - IIRC,the IMA motor will provide up to an additional ~13HP. Assuming the IMA battery is in good enough condition,and SoC. The IMA system limits the max. electrical power to ~10kW.
    7:30 - Yea,that checks out. 84A,so battery voltage was down to about 1.0V/cell. (the IMA battery is 120cells,so about 120Vdc total.) 120Vx84A=10kW=13HP -rough math.

  • @Head5hot81
    @Head5hot81 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I have ideas that probably never work, but could you put the idler bearing around the fuel rack adjustment, reinforce the shaft housing like you did with the screw holes, and then you wouldn't have to worry about the belt coming in major contact with the adjustment housing? That way, the pulley isn't added on the way you showed and keeps the current footprint you have now.

Arduino and the electrical bits and bobs i just have zero knowledge. To be able to make a more reliable improvement without the worry or risk of blowinga $2-5k engines would be nice.

    • @robotcantina8957
