Purpose defines most things we do in life, whether it be sewing or in my case entertaining. I have so much “stuff” I’ve collected for this type of party or that kind of party, that is not being used often enough to justify the quantity of items I have. I’ve been promising a Hawaiian theme party forever, and still have not put it together despite all the stuff I have. As I age, it’s becoming clearer to me that I’m running out of time, when is the now for these themed parties???
I’m trying to do better by at least not buying any more stuff, and working with what I have already.
This message is perfect timing for me! In everything there’s His Purpose!
Thanks Anita! May God continue to Bless you and your family!🙏🏾🙋🏾‍♀️

I am so happy to see you coming back! And sewing with a plan is exactly what I need in my life. I don't have a lot of time to sew these days as I run around with my four young children here and there. But when I do sew, I need pieces that I can wear each day as I run around town. Occasionally I'll need dresses and other dressy items, but for my day to day that's not what I wear. I will absolutely be following along!

I totally agree with what you're doing. I love your idea of sewing with the purpose of everyday wear. Now that you have talked about it, I think that is why I haven't started sewing. I only wanna purchase patterns that I will use to sew things for every day (with the exception of a couple of patterns for formal wear). I just didn't know how to put it into words and you did that for me. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you will come up with next. Thank you Ms. Anita!

This video hits on a dilemma i had to address myself. What to sew that i will get the most wear out of, that is actually worth spending a lot of time on. I never had an issue with event clothing cause i rarely go to events. I settled on sportswear separates that are professional looking and not too casual, cause those are the clothes i have a hard time finding in ready-to-wear. Examples are jackets, blouses, skirts and pants. Dresses I rarely wear. Jeans, very casual tops i can find easily in the store. Not worth sewing. I do do make an exception for nicer tees, especially mixed media ones cause they are harder to find ready. Anita, I am looking forward to seeing how you approach your wardrobe needs. Thank you for speaking about this important planning issue in our sewing lives. So sorry to hear of your loss. condolences to your family. May God bless.

1st - Ive been following you for many years and Im so sorry for your loss. I will continue to pray for your family.
I thought the same thing... fabric and pattern hoarding so how is it I never have a finished product... because of fabric and pattern hoarding... lol! I went through everything and donated probably 50% to a home ec teacher so kids can learn using different fabrics (not just quilting cotton). She also makes little dresses for needy children in other countries. God has given me so much and here I am with fabric, notions and patterns sitting in a closet which does no one any good - it was time to give back. A little girl (or boy) who is learning to sew OR a girl who has never owned a dress will appreciate it so much more!
Im a quilter @ heart and have tried for many years to sew apparel and I cant get passed my on grain issues. I fiddle and fiddle and measure for hours and for what....? nothing - I never cut the fabric b/c Im worried Im not on grain.... something is wrong with me 🤔😉. If any of you ladies have any tricks up your sleeve or I sure would appreciate it!!

    • @AnitabyDesign
      @AnitabyDesign  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Just a girl with a needle OMGOSH!!! I LOVE what you have done. That is such a great donation and I’m sure the teachers were thrilled.
About the on grain issue. Just cut the fabric one time. Jus do it. Don’t even think about it. Just cut and sew, then see what happens. You may surprise yourself

Very excited for this series! Maybe something like a capsule wardrobe?? I have always loved what you have sewn but must confess I have never sewn anything because I don't do events and if I do I would buy because I don't have the skills yet to do that and don't want to wast money on something I would never finish. Also, I have lost a TON of weight and have gone from a size 18/20 to a 10 and looking at doing your shirt video. My hope is I will be in a size now that will work well following that class. Sorry so long, but glad your back and know that WE all shine because YOU live in HIS design and are showing us the way. Be happy and sew whatever your harts desires!

    Good morning Anita⛅!
I'm so happy to see, your moving forward with vigor and purpose.
I too, I'm embarking on a similar journey.
Sewing, purchasing, eating and living with a plan or purpose in mind.
You look very vibrant, well rested and ready for whatever new and true thing The Lord will bring your way.
I joined your channel it seems, or at least I thought at the tail end.
    But nope, now, I see.
    I'm just in time.
Continued strength and true blessings to you always,
    Regina.

So sorry for the loss of your husband. I started sewing so I could alter and hem my own RTW pieces and save money. Now I'm sewing pieces to fill gaps in my wardrobe. I do purchase patterns and fabrics, but I'm also working hard not to hoard or over purchase those things and get overwhelmed. I also love thrifting and consignment shopping, so I treat sewing clothes as a way to enhance my diverse wardrobe. I can't wait to see how your new approach develops! Thanks for sharing your videos!

I am so sorry to hear about your husband, it’s not easy.
It is wonderful you have a brilliant project to help you into your new way of life. I found that I didn’t want to dress up and tank tops with jeans, etc, were all I wore. Now I will wear nicer tank tops lol with gorgeous knitwear. I look forward to seeing your videos here on TH-cam.
My best wishes for you on your journey.

This is so relevant to me. I sew nice dresses and wear them a few times a year, maybe. But j go in my wardrobe and can't put an outfit together.
I have recently changed too.i have started to make separates that actually go together. The key is to sew more plains so things can actually match. I am also only sewing with my colour palate, all blue toned colours. This means that hopefully everything will go together.
As I have very little space i feel like throwing most out and starting again 😊

Hello Anita. My name is Alvin and for some reason I found you on-line. I thought I would just start here to introduce myself, then start from the beginning of your learn to sew series. My mother passed away last year. She sewed all of her life. She owned three machines and me and my two siblings all kept one each. I'm vaguely familiar with the sewing concept, but I never got into it. Now that she's gone and I'm 49 soon to be 50 in May of 2019, I've decided to learn in her memory. Plus it gives me a new hobby. In addition to her machine, I have much of her sewing accessories and I'm eager to get started.
So, you'll be hearing from me from time to time as I'm sure I'll have many questions... Lol
Keep up the wonderful work. Your new pupil... Alvin from Atlanta.😌

I agree with you. I love the sewing community on Instagram, but I just told a friend the other day that I'm going to be more mindful of participating in the sewalongs because I've spent a lot of time sewing things that I may not wear again just because "everyone else" is sewing the pattern.

We are praying for you and your boys! May Yahuah (God) bless you with strength, grace and peace in this trying time. You have always sewn with a purpose, if you ask me. Those clothes were made with a purpose. It’s just time to repurpose your wardrobe, that’s all. We love you as Yah has instructed us to love our brethren. I look forward to what you have in store as I’ve learned so much from your videos. Be blessed. Shalom.
