I'm in Sacramento. And I am old, so I remember when this was an awesome place with all sorts of wildlife. In college I was interested in microbiology and would get samples of the water, bring them to school to use the microscope in the back, and saw the most amazing things. It wasn't part of my studies, I just loved looking and the professor would let me do it as much as I liked. Then he would let students come back and take a look when we found something amazing, like vorticellas, or snails inside their transparent eggs. You could see the little hearts beating right in there. There were flatworms down there too. Now it's the most disgusting place you can imagine. And yet they are always talking about saving the planet, but let disasters like this happen.
What a good informative video with shock value. Have you sent this to all the Council members? I know you have been interviewed on tv but would they be willing to show this? You have all done an amazing job so far but I agree it should not be left for volunteers to clear this mess. The City needs to bring in resources themselves but take advice from you all. The map at the beginning is good for us followers who don’t live in the USA.
Thanks, yes this will be sent to the Mayor and council members, like many of our videos. We need widespread public outrage to get any traction with these folks.
This is so sad, seriously all of the people in office, need to go. Thank you for doing this. Anyone know if they are accepting donations? These people doing this, dealing with waste and good knows what are amazing!
Thank you! There are two easy ways to make a donation to support the work of River City Waterway Alliance. Donations can be made to Sacramento Area Creeks Council, our nonprofit fiscal sponsor. Go to the 'donate' button at saccreeks.org or participate in a fundraising campaign at www.bigdayofgiving.org/organization/Sacramento-Area-Creeks-Council. Every donation goes a long way towards supporting our important work. 🙏💚
David, I am so glad that you have thrown down the gauntlet. Let's hope and pray that the City of Sacramento will finally step up and do the right thing for our beautiful waterways! I am so proud to be a badger!!
David did a great documentary to this video, that’s haunting how our creeks are. And our government officials are to blame for letting it get this bad. This is Sacramento dirty secret. Only thanks to our RiverCityWaterwayAlliance volunteers these creek have a chance!
Omg... I had no idea that area is that dirty and trashy... on Earth Day Sacramento should of held a "Let's Keep Our Community Clean" event and ask the Sacramento Community to volunteer their time and help clean/pick up trash there. I am sure a lot of Sacramentals would had.
We hope to get the Salmon back up Steelhead Creek and into Dry Creek and Arcade Creek. Our cleanups downstream in Steelhead Creek have been as extensive as these cleanups in Arcade Creek. It has been a daunting task requiring 100's of cleanups and over 1 million lbs of trash removed so far.
As the video states, we’ve performed a dozen cleanups at this location. We’ve barely made a dent. This creek is 16 miles long and we’ve only covered about 5 miles in 3 years of volunteer work.
That's fucking gross on both counts 😂 That water has NEVER been clean enough to eat the crawdads, and the only time I got in the water is when it was running high from rain. Runs right through my hood, right next to it 🙄
This small volunteer group can only do what it can do. We appreciate positive comments and words of encouragement. We removed 2.4 million lbs of trash from Sacramento waterways in our first 2 years of existence.

So Proud of the Volunteers…..So disappointed in our elected official’s state and local!

💚👍🏻😎 I hope the city of Sacramento steps forward and cooperates with you to clean the area.
Thank you so much volunteers. Here’s to Sacramento government spending some money and man hours to haul this away.
Sacramento is such a poorly run city. Neglect is seen everywhere.

😮😢😠disgusting.
We demand action from the City of Sacramento!!!
No comment it’s beyond words.
I miss the Sacramento of my youth……😢
GEE! LOOK AT ALL THE NEEDLES!
I agree with the neglect not just with this but with everything that made this and every other place on this planet a good and only place to exist!

Fine stewards of the land, these politicians in office.
When I was a kid back in the 60’s we used to catch Salmon in that creek. 😢

Didn't you do Arcade Creek recently? Yucch.

3rd world. I used to swim in that in the 90s. It was dirty and mucky then, but i swam in it and didn't get sick. Ate crawdads caught.

i have lived in texas for a few years, while i was in the army... a republican state.. there creeks can be just as bad,, so what is your point

2 months later, and no reply, keyboard warrior? Perhaps, all talk, no action
@@zerotodona1495 2 months later and no reply, keyboard warrior perhaps, all talk, no action
I seriously doubt it's all homeless people
Not “all”, but at least 80-90% at this location. Did you watch our Norwood videos where we cleaned directly behind the camps?
Is this really your only take on this disgusting waterway condition? Did you bother thanking the volunteers for that backbreaking work?! Smh
