I hope someone has told you already but the drone does not use the main camera for landing
there is a camera on the bottom that it uses..It does not detect the pad till about 75 feet in altitude..Thanks for the great video.😎

I've watched many of your videos you really know what you're doing I think that is having a little bit of trouble maybe I don't know if it's Wi-Fi but the mini too I'm very new to it and I just got a mini too but I don't have it I've not used it yet just got it two or three days ago and you're helping me a lot on TH-cam thank you keep doing your thing man
The controls on that are awesome I really like the way it spreads out and it can hold your tablet it's cool
I like the updated tracking logic on the FIMI X8, compared to my Mavic Mini. This also has much more powerful motors than the Mini, and has pretty impressive speed, for an entry level semi professional drone.

Hi Dustin, another awesome video. I have the original Fimi X8 and its been a rock solid performer. Bang for buck I think its safe to recommend it to most people. You don’t need to point the camera/gimbal down for the RTH auto landing. The sensor under the body tracks the landing pad. You can see in your video that it detected the landing pad just before you moved the camera down👍. Looking forward to the comparison on range with the parabolic vs Yagi-Udi extenders. I have the same parabolic ones as you and haven’t seen the other type before. Will be interesting to see how they go. Cheers, Mark.

Careful on which Yagi Uda range extenders you buy. There are few vendors selling 3D printed versions and they're crispy hard fragile plastic. Like, made in a garage with a cheap 3D printer quality. Not good.

Actually Dustin you dont need to pull the camera down for your precition landing . its does it automatically uses the camera on the bottom of the drone. The optical flow camera. So you dont have to do it yourself. It will do it on its own buddy. Awesome video Dustin as usual. Love your vids.

No you don't . Mine will land itself on the pad 3/4 of the time, without pulling the camera down.

The 2018 lacks manual camera controls in video mode (mostly affecting white balance control), lacks some camera resolution options and dynamic range by comparison, lacks the precision landing reliability, lacks panorama photo mode, and has very slightly shorter flight time and control range (although control range exceeds battery life with yagi-extenders even on the 2018). But if you shoot at 4k30fps at high bitrate/quality, in *good lighting* with manual ISO 100, then all the flight modes and video results are virtually identical. In other words, if you already have the 2018, then the 2020 is more refined but scarcely a compelling upgrade depending on your needs.
Well - another great review...
Regarding the low level orbit (from around 0:53:00) - I think that one problem might have been that the marking box was too short/low - your head remained out of it.

A very comprehensive detailed review, like. So conditional on no wind flying at 20Mph your range should be 5 miles for about 30 minutes flight time,,,,in theory looking forward to your range test.
You don't need to lower the gimbal for landing it uses the sensors... Great review I bought the 2020 based on you first fimi review

Looks a decent drone this, video looks better too (than the blue version from last time)..
Overall the Fimi drones are getting better. I think their image quality is pretty good too.

Really pleased with this drone. For the price it is unbeatable. Haters, name one other drone with the same features for the price.
I had a choice between this and the mavic mini. I chose this because it's faster, has longer flight times and shoots 4K video.
If I wanted the same feature set from DJI I'd be paying $2000 AUD for just the drone and the controller. $750AUD got me this drone, the controller, two more batteries, a car charger, gimbal cover, bag, CPL filter, ND 8 16 and 32 filters and a 64Gb V60 mini sd card. Also bought the Yagi range extenders but I regularly fly it over 2500m away from my takeoff point and have never lost signal so I've never used the range extenders.
wow, you did really well to get all that for the price. I've got one but my son is looking at getting a new drone as well. Where did you get it from?
@@bulldogboy100 banggood, it was during their 72 hour reservation sale. Drone, controller and battery was $540, two batteries for $80 each, waterproof bag was $30 the rest was normal prices. (those are AU$ prices, current US$ exchange rate is about 70 US cents to 1AU dollar)

I got one of these and all I get is jello city - not to mention always tilted horizon. I've had it for a while now I have tried 5 sets of blades, checking balancing recal everything, firmware upgrades. Be aware that if you buy one of these it is a lottery if you get a good one.

Beautiful views and yes - I think they've fixed the Yellowish (Sepia) look. The original had the bluish tinge this one had a sepia tinge ... Thanks for sharing this very detailed review and BTW love the Tracking portion of the video - bit of a work out ... ha ha !
That was an awesome Review Dustin, by far the best reviewer for these drones. I thought it performed really good for the price and I would love to win it. I could go and fly it with my Dad, I honestly thought it would have landed itself before 5% but it kept going and you still had control. Excellent..I can't wait to see your next video doing a range test and using the extra antennas. Good Job 👍👊💯
I'm not sure you've figured it out. But you can actually change the low battery settings to Hover, Land or Return to Home. Yours must have been set to land

I'm not sure if I'd go for it. The return home issue is a real problem in my book. Even the Spark had the rth feature, albeit shorter flight time. So all in all, imho, I'd go with a Mavic Mini or Mini 2 over the Fimi any day.
This is a great drone. Flies very stable , even in 10 to 15 mph winds. I have not tried all of the features as i not taken it out to an area I can experiment in. I fly it in my back yard and I manage to avoid ham radio antenna, my house, etc. It is not quite as good as the Mavic Air 2 but then again I did not spend 800 bucks for just the drone(extra 250.00 for extra batteries and care package) I like the camera video , good color , nice photos and the gimbal keeps things from wabling around. I did order another battery and a couple of filters for daytime flying.(Banggood has best prices but it take a really long time to receive the items- but it does eventually arrive) I bought the basic drone with one battery, probably should have ordered the package with 2 extra batteries.. it is just fun to fly.

Hey Dustin just curious if from your experiences does fimi and dji continue to do firmware updates to their drones long after the date of purchase or do the drones eventually become obsolete like most devices of today technology and you have to purchase the newer versions that come out ? I finally able to save up and get my 1st drone but I want to buy a best to money ratio drone.
In general I'd go for Mini 2. But if wind resistance and more tracking options matter more the Fimi is a decent choice 🍻

Watching this in late November 2023... that looks pretty good for a budget drone... reasonable footage and pics for such a drone. No jello, not too fuzzy... I quite like it to be honest (although I wont trade in my Air 3 or mini 4 pro on one haha) ... How have they improved in the latest model in 2023? Greetings from Australia

Hi Dustin - about the precision landing - it seems that it doesn't need you to move the camera. Take another look at your video (from 31':10) - it finds the pad before you've finished turning the camera all over.

Fimi still a alternative option for Mavic mini before the Mavic mini 2 come out.
Perhaps. A Mini 2 will likely offer 4K@30fps, tracking, and a bump in flight time. But if they maintain the 249g spec, then I'll be surprised if it offers better wind resistance/ speed. Much less Log output, waypoint flight planning, panoramas, extensive tracking and flight modes with manual override, flight log playback in the field with telemetry data, all as we currently enjoy with the Fimi. These drones apparently target different audiences despite their similar price points. I own both.

And also you don't need to manually pull the gimbal down when detecting return to home. Idk what's wrong with your drone or your just aren't giving it enough to time to do the stuff on its own.

Hey Dustin great video. One thing I'd like to ask is did you experience any of the gimball issues that I've read about where the horizon tilts after making a turn but will return if you stop and hover for a shirt time.
I hear that a lot but honestly have not noticed it. Flying hard it might tilt briefly but goes back to level as other drones do 🍻

Question for ya Dustin. Just upgraded to a DJI Mavic Air 2. Bought a iPad mini reconditioned unit. Can't download the DJI fly app. Will the DJI Fly app work on any iPad mini? Do I need a newer one? More memory? Thanks!!
Honestly not sure. I haven't tried my new ipad mini on the MA2 mainly because it doesn't fit in stock bracket and the aftermarket extension brackets I see look to block antenna with the ipad. Although in app store you can usually choose to download iphone apps to your iPad and they'll work.

DJI is a more refined brand but you get more options for your money with Fimi 🍻
Don’t forget to mention the DJI NFZ’s. They don’t use FAA charts and kept me from flying on my property no place near a FAA NFZ

@@Composites83 I had mine since mid April when they were first released and only sold it a week ago. Even then after tons of updates there were so many bugs with it and connection issues they hadn’t fixed it’s ridiculous! Lots of problems were present in the previous model that they failed to fix. And the Mavic is more than 4 times better I can assure you that so well worth the extra money
I respect that decision. Most folks looking at the 2020 wouldn't be comfortable flying a drone at 4x the price no matter how good it was. I have the M2 Pro and Zoom but rely on the X8SE in more risky shots. I generally work around any firmware bugs, to include the jaw-dropping limitations/bugs in my M2P. At the end of the day, I have to catalog my footage carefully in order to discern the difference in video quality. The Zoom is by far the best drone (video quality and shot flexibility) in my fleet, while the M2P is my low-light drone. The 2020 actually has better dynamic range than the Zoom, but the video quality is much better from the Zoom in good lighting. I can't imagine selling any of them.

On the orbit. It seems like when it loses you is when it gets to the side where the elevation of the ground goes up.

I've been going back and forth for a week now trying to decide whether to get the fimi x8 2020 or the mini 2! I've seen some video transmission cut out issues with the x8 at longer ranges, have you had this issue. If so, have you has less of this kind of issue with the mini 2? Thanks man, hope you can help me decide which one to get🤘
Get the Mini 2 unless you need more wind resistance and some of the features the X8 has over it like follow me etc 🍻
@@DustinDunnill yea, I got a chance to fly both and I thought the x8 was great but the mini 2 had better visual on both the camera and less latency on the device; just overall felt more solid. I do want the smart features like follow me etc, even obstacle avoidance would be nice! So now I'm trying to decide on the mini 2 or the air 2😂. Although the price is much more, I'm leaning more towards the air 2 because it does have more features and better camera etc. Thanks for getting back to me man! You think its worth the extra bit for the air 2 compared to the mini 2?

...And I can't really find any other drone company with a decent drone for around that cost that also has good customer service, and that backs up their product as much as dji.
