  • A basic walk around of the Kobelco SK 140 excavator review.
    Great machine. Great service. So far in our use of it. I'd highly reccomend Kobelco. Great machine so far!

    I put many hours on a Kobelco 140. I thought it was a pretty solid little excavator compared to its competitors in its size class. I agree with you that that blade is awesome to have. I found them very useful when working on hillsides to level out as well as when backfilling or pioneering roads. It also adds a lot to the stability of the excavator. I would not buy one of the smaller zero tail swings without a blade on it. I am definitely a very pro-Cat guy when it comes to excavators in general, but I think Kobelco has them beat in this particular size machine (I’m also about your height and don’t like the Cat zero tail swing cabs). The Kobelco has very good visibility, speed, and hydraulic performance. I would say for me, for this size machine in zero tail swing, it’s a toss up between Volvo and Kobelco. However, after testing many different excavators, we did just purchase a Cat 349FL, which is obviously for a much different purpose than your excavator. The larger Cat excavators have the most comfortable cab and most solid build quality from what I’ve seen and experienced. Volvo seems to build their larger excavators in similar fashion to Cat, but I feel as though Cat edges Volvo out as far as parts support and my confidence in the machine. I will try to put up some videos regarding our new 349 and elaborate on my thoughts there. As far as DEF and other emissions equipment goes, we try our best to buy pre-emission equipment if we can. For example, we picked up a 2003 Cat D6R, the dozer in my profile picture, that had many components rebuilt, to the point of mechanically being like a new machine. It was 1/5th of the cost of a new D6T, plus it had no emissions equipment to worry about. The 349 is our only machine that takes DEF fluid, besides my L5P Duramax pickup (essentially the same exact truck as yours). We have a Takeuchi TL10 on RPO that has a DPF, which has luckily been reliable in the 350 or so hours that we have put on it. I’m also curious how the parts and support are from Grand Equipment being that you are probably at least a good couple hours away from them. One big reason we try to buy mostly Cat equipment is the parts availability, but I know Grand has a pretty good group of service and parts guys. I just have a bit of an issue with their upper management.

    What year are the wheels on your truck? I thought 08 and up were a different lug pattern

    Blade is the best feature, can even dozer topsoil works well.

    Sexy machine👍 perfect size for most jobs like demo, lot clearing and digging basements, looks really similar to my John Deere 135

    Nice machine! How come you started with an equipment trailer and not a wide dump trailer? What do you think about a mini ex and goosneck dump vs gooseneck equipment?

    • @AveryExcavating

      You'll never haul as much as a dump truck is able to with a dump trailer. Dump trailers (basic 14kgvw can hold about 1/4 to 1/3 of what a small 10 cy dump can handle) So I always subbed out trucking. dump trailers have their spots for sure. ALso...I didn't have some master plan...I just did what I could with what I had/have

      @@AveryExcavating I was thinking dump over equipment just to be able to haul out spoils from small jobs and like you said just do what I can and sub out the rest

    If I may ask, what is your truck tagged at weight wise that you haul that with? Is the truck a tandem or a triaxle? I got a tandem tagged at 54,000 and I’m towing an excavator that’s 26,500 with a trailer that’s around 11,000. Just trying to figure out if I’m legal. My truck weighs 23,500 approx. Thanks

      I think the international is tagged at 72k. If you add up 26.5 + 11 + 23.5 = 61k. So I'd tag at 66 to be safe. We went with 72k so we can haul a load of material in the box along with tag trailer and skid. We tagged the Kenworth at 90k. (you'll have to file a form 2099 ( i think thats the number) for heavy use tax but thats all.

      @kevinhennessy6193 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you can tag a dump way more than it can hold by itself, huh I didn’t know. Yeah the heavy use tax, just one more thing to have.

      @@kevinhennessy6193 yes as long as your pintle hitch is rated and you don't exceed axle limits. 34k tandem. 13k each axle over tandem.

    Great review!!
    Is it possible to haul a 14ton excavator with a pickup truck?

    • @AveryExcavating
      @AveryExcavating  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possible...Yes...Safely or legally not likely. The whole thing weighs about 48,000lbs with the trailer.

    I don't think the new Cats have the sliding door, or at least the minis don't. I'd definitely pick a regular door over a sliding one.

  • @kevinhennessy6193
    @kevinhennessy6193 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah pintle hook rated for it. When I went in to get my new trailer registered and I said I wanted registered over 20,000 lb they looked at me like I had three heads, then finally after much discussion amongst themselves, they handed me my new trailer registration and all it said in box about weight rating was N/A! I was like wth! So it sounds like I just got to up my dump truck registration ( and get that tax form) and I’ll be ok. Wonder why they couldn’t tell me that.
