  • The Adventure of the Three Garridebs is one of the twelve stories published as The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in June 1927. This particular story was first published in Collier's Magazine on 25th October 1924.
The story is set at 'the latter end of June, 1902', memorable to Watson as it was same month in which Holmes turned down a knighthood for his services to the country.
I particularly like this story for the couple of paragraphs towards the end in which the relationship between Holmes and Watson is beautifully laid out.
It is, as usual, read by Greg Wagland for Magpie Audio.

35:10 I love this moment so much. It almost makes me cry every time. It shows how much Watson is important for Holmes, how much he really cares and worries about him. It is so moving, I can't

Well and if reading or listening like here, to ACDs version... Sherlock is very much human and in fact has a great dry and fun sense of humor and a certain protective element towards women and people in general, he is cold na calculating in a professional way and in the way his brain works. He can be a bit haughty etc but someone of great intelligence is, because they is not through intentional malicious ❤

@@MsMtheoryIt, in another side of the same coin sort of thing, it also reminds me of that episode of inspector Morse where that evil dude has set fire to Morse's house and he just barely has gotten out and he's sitting in the back of the ambulance, clearly terrified, and calling "Lewis, Lewis, I want Lewis" . As much as we usually see Morse being a bit derisive of, and sometimes downright rude to Lewis, we see in that moment, the extent to which Morse relies on him and trusts and actually has come to need him.

I listen to a lot of audio books and stories, and I really like how Greg Wagland performs these classics. There's never any doubt which character is speaking, yet Mr. Wagland never strays into exaggerated caricatures in order to differentiate his speakers. I don't know much about the various British dialects, but it's clear that different characters come from different regions, educational backgrounds, and social classes.
I especially appreciate Mr. Wagland's portrayal of female characters. I wince when I hear some male voice actors try to sound like their idea of a woman's voice - prissy, or shrill, or just downright stupid. Mr. Wagland manages to convey a feminine tone without sounding like a Monty Python player in drag.
Thanks so much for the stories - I look forward to more!

Sierraseven Gregg Waglands vocal repertoire is awesome. I can confirm that his British regional accents are as good as it gets.
He says ' I just read 'em '. We know he does much more than that don't we !
