80s and 90s had some of the best music, period. You still had a lot of the old rock guys like Chuck Berry and Little Richard hanging around, not to mention the immense talent from rock and metal. I'd be here all day just trying to list half of the legends that were floating around back then. You also had the rise of punk, and even Russian neoformal like Kino. At least for the latter two, you've still got Biting Elbows making some pretty good stuff

I kinda think that 80's and 90's pop, for the most part, it is very noticeable how dated it is. In the 80s, they used lots of synth, and the 90s it gives off a little bit of Alternative and Garage Rock sound, as well as 2000s pop

I show up to the gig which was a three piece group, so I played my ass off. During the break after the 1st set he told me this wasn't my show, it was his. All he wants to hear from me are Roots and 5ths. That's exactly what I gave him for the 2nd set.

I don't understand people that go out of their way to find the most skilled musicians they can find, then have them... play roots and 5ths or basic 4x4 rock beats if they're a drummer. Or even worse, get mad at them for actually playing when they didn't say to lay low and play simple beforehand. Like, why go through the effort of finding skilled musicians and paying them when you could have found a couple of drones who can play simple stuff for cheap, so that they don't waste everyone's time. Never understood that. Like when Geoff Tate went and got a bunch of metal legends to record his F.U. album, which ended up being... boring ass radio rock. Waste of fuckin talent. He could have probably got it done sooner, and for cheaper, if he had just gotten some no-names to track the parts. It's not like he required any of the talent he assembled.

Just a little anecdote: I started a band and for that band i learned drums since i had a drum set and needed a drummer. I never played drums before, ok? It was tough and i struggled a lot but my best friend is my guitarist so he was so freaking supportive, it became a very fruitful experience. Anyway, fast forward a few years and he finds a work buddy that plays drums so we naturally invite him to play for our band so i can pick up the instrument ive been playing and studying for years… the bass. Well, time progresses and after the first few lessons i noticed the drummer trying to control everything, even going so far as to make up lyrics (that he drunkenly forgot) to a bass line i came up with. Then he said it was his song and he thought of it, which pissed me to all hell. My guitarist saw that i pretty much started to hate this guy, and said we should switch instruments for shits and giggles. We did, me on drums, the drummer on bass. All he did was basic rythms pretty much in sync with the guitar parts, he even had tge balls to say “im just playing what T- plays like a bassist is supposed to.” As if i was awful at bass or was playing too much. Now, this of course didnt stop me from playing bass the way i do because i love steve harris and you can figure out the rest. Fast forward a couple months, drummer goes crazy, ends up “figuring it out”, the tells me in a text that im a terrible musician. So i tell him “yeah, well youre fired.” That didnt sit well with the guitarist at first because they lived very close and i lived much further away, so he still played with the drummer. I just disassociated myself with my best friend and just accepted my fate. A few months later my best friend messages me, tells me he wants me to play drums because H- sucks, and that my drum beats are irreplaceable. Well, now we are a pretty tight band (musically and friendshipwise). I got really good at drums. (In my opinion - and my guitarists).

This was a brilliant bit of satire. As with all truly great satire, there's a very strong, biting element of truth and realism. A few months ago, I became aware that so many facets of our lives have effectively become "politicized", and music is no exception. All the politics around artistic freedom vs real world expectations are impossibly complex and this video illustrates that hilariously. That was some superb acting as well!
