I loved Joey's comments on his videoed lap. "You have to be careful here" while going around a bend at 180mph. Anyone who wins a TT is a champion. Anyone who wins 26 TT's is a road racing god.
I was there that year....I remember they Helicoptered in the Magnesium HRC carbs for Joey's Honda 6X ....then they flew them back to Japan for someone else to race with....they were so special.......but you gotta Love those Big Suzuki's too.... Joey is a Legend.....but Marshall and Mellor etc deserve more recognition sometimes I think.
To live a life.....doing the thing you Love.....to become the Greatest at that thing.....for everyone to Love and Respect you .....and to die in an instant doing that thing which you Love so much....is The Most Perfect Life of all.
Wow, my first litre bike was a pre exup FZR1000 in those exact Loctite colours, 1988 model. It had a full Cobra stainless exhaust with a Dynojet carb kit. I loved that bike. It was crazy loud on the street though.
OMG, Joey, dead, Phil Mellor, dead and Geoff Johnson dead as well. RIP these lads, heroes each and everyone of them, seen these lads race many times in the past, I think Phil was the first to go in 1989? 1300 proddy race on a GSXR1100
Any footage of Phil Mellor is priceless.
Phil Mellor a mate of mine RIP Phil

And now his nephew has surpassed it. What legends
awesome times, maybe the greatest era of road racing

I agree. They were unlucky to race at the same time as Joey for silverware, but very lucky to have shared a track with such genius
Coming off the treble at the Northwest Joey was unbeatable.
