This video was very informative! The explanation of dimensions and measures in Tableau was clear, and the guidance on how to assign fields was super helpful. Great job breaking it down-thank you!
Thanks for your valuable content. I have a problem when I load the data some fields such as discount, profit, and sales show data type as a string, and when I change it to a number it becomes null. IDK why?
one of the best animation-based videos to understand some aspects of dimensional modeling. Hope in the future you will create a dedicated course on data modeling on education platforms like Udemy etc.
I really appreciate your videos, I have the same issue as others where the sales and profit are set as s string and when changed to number I get "null", I am using the lates EU data sets. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm happy you liked my video, about the issue you mentioned i made a small video to solve the issue th-cam.com/video/OjbKjKXfzk4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HRr8qBt5q_AKYDP9
Thanks for this great free tutorial. How do you decide what should be in column vs what should be in the row? Is it recommended that Dimensions to be put in the columns and measures in the row ?
Hi Bara, Thanks for this great video. I had a doubt regarding Dimensions. You had mentioned in the summary that Dimensions cannot be aggregated. Any categorical dimension e.g: Segment of Sample Superstore dataset) can be aggregated by right-clicking the field in the view and selecting Measure > either Minimum, Maximum, Count, Count (Distinct). Although it does not always makes sense to aggregate a non-numeric dimension. Kindly confirm the same or am I missing something here. Regards, Deepak.
Hi Deepak, I really appreciate your nice feedback. Regarding your question, when you choose 'Measure' and then select an aggregate function, you're essentially converting a dimension into a measure. If Tableau allows the aggregation of dimensions, they would skip the 'Measure' step and directly provide the aggregate functions. So, to answer your question, it's not possible to aggregate dimensions. I hope this helps, enjoy your day !
Hi , Thank you for the amazing videos! I have Question.Dates filed are non numerical but we can perform aggregation on it right ? E.g : Avg time to ship the product..etc. can we make the field as measure ? Thank you!
thank you a lot.. just to mention, the sales data type in " theTableau-Sales-Dataset-Small\Sales Dataset" is string but it's number in your video. I changed it to number but all values turned into null. could you please help me with this issue.
I really enjoy these videos. But Sales and profit and more of the data in the Orders table are defaulted in string and could not beaggregated. If I change to decimal, the data turns into null. How can I solve this?

The best explanation i've seen yet for visual learners!
Without any doubt, your videos are far better than many paid courses.

Hi Bara,
When will you upload SQL advance full tutorial video?
Hi, I will do it once Tableau Course is done, maybe by September this year :)
