Fabiano honestly seems like such a humble, chill guy. Certainly doesn’t have the ego of a guy who’s top 2 in the world. Hope to see him in the next candidates!
So insane how Fabi can navigate the game when neither side has a clear plan of attack. Just plays best move after best move until eventually he's outright winning.
@@maus-v1t Oh that's great! I'm working on two Chessable courses for master-level players. Most people are beyond mortified of the process of losing, especially against stronger players. Some people take it to the extreme and turn to the fish god for any sort of guidance. I had to catch a player once for trying that against me.
Never accept the rematch! You should have just walked around the club after the first game: "Hey, Bok! Bok! Alina! You see that guy with the glasses?" "Fabriano Carbonara?" "Yeah, that's him. You know how he was almost world champion, right?" "Well, sort of..." "Just beat him!" [Turning to each other] "Wow. That's great. Are you going to give him a rem... Eric? Hey, where did Eric go? Have you seen him? Eric!"
I enjoyed the chaotic middle game. Both players out of their opening preparation with an equal evaluation bar. It's only at that point when the real chess play occurs.
The game fell apart when Eric started responding to Fabi’s moves and stopped making threats. Whenever Eric plays these really high rated players, it seems there’s always a moment where he sacrifices initiative to play defense. He ends up on the back foot and gms will lean on you. Sacrificing the material for initiative was so successful, i wish he had stuck with his plan of advancing that d pawn earlier and making Fabi respond to *him* earlier and not gotten distracted by side quests. We love you Eric, play aggressive at the tournament!

I think that at 6:41 is where your position started to crack. Instead of Qc5, I'd try Qa6. It hits White's a-pawn and keeps c5 open for your knight to attack White's rook on b7.
It’s crazy how well it can “look good” for black and the position is still equal. What did you learn from that scenario, @7:25? I wasn’t sure what the best move even could have been at that point, did he give any advice from there on how he would’ve played it? I feel like you did so well and were so close to waiting for one slip up and eventually it all fell because of pressure and time but it was beautiful and I hope the learning element was just as beautiful
@@johnnytwotimes7854 that’s not what I want to see. I want to hear the idea, if you focus on the engine you’ll never improve. In the last position, is it drawable if you play black bishop d3 attack the queen? Either white covers with his bishop, takes takes and the rook is hanging, ur still a piece down but maybe playable. If white queen moves to d1 theres repetition? Let me know what you think im a beginner at most
On a different topic. I know you are busy right now, but when you had the opportunity, I would like to hear more about your camera setup. Thanks and good luck in NY
This, unfortunately, is what happens when we focus too much on one particular plan (in this case, queening the d pawn), to the detriment of everything else-letting pieces hang, not defending ourselves, not realizing the other guy ALSO has a plan, etc. If you see it doesn't work, and that d1 is protected 3x, just switch to plan B, or consolidation.

You don't just mess with the chess mafia

ikr he def has high ego as anyone in his spot would but much less than.....certain streamers lol
As far as I know he is in the next candidates unless Arjun has some insane performarance in the world rapid and blitz or am I wrong?

Fabi losses OFTEN. It's a question why he's #2 when you look at his International Tournament performances

Let's talk about the first game

Extremely well played Eric! Greetings from Sweden
That was such a FUN game!! Yo I had your chances but Fabiano just managed to eke out a minor advantage and build on it.

that was a great game & congrats to Fabiano too, he got his revenge! ‼️
Great game! Well done! Was there a queen fork at 3:54?
fabi will play rook a4 protected by the queen and the rook will threten the queen and protect the bishop
Really nice battle, those killer bishops…

Gukesh better hide 🫣
