I am 100% with Arin. I grew up watching the Disney animated Robin Hood on VHS and I was like whoa wait why is this fox lady kinda hot?? I do think it has something to do with the voice actress though. Same with Robin. His voice is so sly and smooth, but with the perfect amount of gravel. Brian Bedford and Monica Evans were just fantastic.
Disney would also famously constantly advertise that the clamshell tapes were going back into the vault, and then Moms would rush out to Walmart to buy them. I don't feel like I ever really saw them leave the shelves until DVDs took over.

@@thomasanderson8548 I specifically missed the original VHS version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The funny thing about Disney's Robin Hood is it actually is one of the major catalysts in creating the modern furry fandom as we know it, as our very first convention was held in 1989, meaning before that time there was still enough furries out there to warrant a get together on that scale. Granted there are other influences on the community, going back to the pantomime animal suits of the late Victorian era and early 20th century, but Robin Hood absolutely was a huge part.

I remember attending a panel at a convention many years ago with Charlie Adler, Billy West, and John DiMaggio, among quite a few others. They did a few in-character skits and talked shop a bit, and I was never so glad that the line for the Rifftrax panel was so hopelessly long that I just went to the next nearest room instead. Christmas day 1989, my father left just minutes after we finished opening presents. "The Buy and Leave is open." He said "Just gotta get a few last minute things" He left us on that cold Christmas day, not knowing if he'd return. We continued on without him, trying to be happy, but unable to shake the feeling of abandonment. Hours later he returned, but with no groceries. Nobody said anything, and we all had a great Christmas meal. But I knew. I knew the truth. Dad went to Buy and Leave to get kissed by the owner, one Arin G. Grump. I'll never forget the day, Arin kissed my dad
Interesting. The very instant he said clamshell tapes I knew exactly what he was talking about without ever in my life having heard them referred to as that.
hearing arin refer to "millennials" to dan caused me to look up when exactly the generation cut off point is, which led me to the knowledge that dan is actually gen x and not a millennial, which feels insane.
For whatever reason i still have clamshell vhs for fantasia. I keep it around so my kids can see what a vhs looks like.... And its among all my dvds that do still get use sometimes
Wow, that Ishinomuri conversation led to me refinding a childhood memory in the form of that LttP manga Dan mentioned. I havent thought about it in 20+ years. Thanks guys. What a cherished part of my childhood you unearthed on Christmas. 🤙🤙
I shit you not, on the way to the family gathering yesterday we passed a closed down gas station/convenience store called Get N’ Slip. Oh lordy how I wished it was open. Merry Christmas y’all!
Sword in the Stone was definitely the same as what they were saying. It's not a long movie, but the animation of whenever Arthur is interacting with his foster family, a lot of animation is reused because it's usually just some sort of conversation over dinner. But it makes it up for it with the main bits between Arthur and Merlin where they're always transforming into animals and learning about the world through their perspective, and ultimately the magic battle with Mim.
“Huh! Definitely spent hours and hours of my life watching that… it’s like it never happened. I only remember the feeling of liking it.” I feel this about Game Grumps 😀 10:33

when it comes to binging thing i dont really have the problem they do, mostly because i only usually binge things that really get me hooked, and those are the shows that stick with me, stick in my memory
My Nana had so many clamshell VHS tapes, I spent tons hours watching them at her house. I also had trouble sleeping as a kid, so she recorded a bunch of movies onto one tape for me to watch without having to get out of bed to switch movies. It helped me sleep and gave me an everlasting love for Ferngully.
Me and my family have the flu right now so our Christmas wasn't very exciting. When I realized it was Wednesday, I was ecstatic. Some Supermarket Simulator is exactly what I need rn. Merry Christmas, everyone!😊
When I was dropped on my head as a little kid, I had my 2 front teeth pulled. I genuinely sang “all I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth” for a couple years lol. Merry Christmas y’all
I wish I had the “forgetting a thing I love” problem. My neurodivergent brain means I can remember every line of every piece of media I’ve ever consumed 😀
My wife is the same way. Uncanny ability to remember the most minute details of most media she's seen/read, usually verbatim. Never fails to amaze me that the human brain can retain so much.
I had read the Altered Carbon book before the show came out, and I enjoyed both versions. If you liked the story, read the book(s) for the complete experience, so good!
Merry Grumpmas beloved Buy & Leavers 🐯🦄🌟🎄 The sound of opening and closing clamshell VHS tapes is forever burned into my brain. They weren’t even all Disney movies either.
I love the Eldritch Cartoon memes. The Blues Clues ones are good, I like the ones people do with the cult like use of the green sweater. Eldritch Garfield is a classic.
He was also T-Bone and Dr. Viper in SwatKats, Snively from Sonic SatAM, and Red Guy from Cow & Chicken, in addition to Cow and Chicken. Didn't really like Cow and Chicken, but was a huge fan of SwatKats and Sonic SatAM. Also played the most menacing version of Cobra Commander in G.I.-Joe Resolute in the early 2000s. He also played a few other characters in that, but his Cobra Commander stands out more than any of the other characters.
I bought the buy and leave tote bag as soon as it was released to surprise my husband for Christmas. It came in and I kept it hidden, and he then had the idea to get me one, but they were no longer available and he was so bummed. It was so sweet to see his face light up Christmas morning with gifts brought to him by the Buy and Leave 🥰 (thank goodness they forgot to check the prices)
Not that he has to have every single one of Charlie Adler's roles memorized or anything, but I'm stunned Arin listed through characters voiced by Charlie Adler and didn't mention Buster freakin' Bunny from Tiny Toon Adventures, arguably his most famous character (or at least like top three).
Merry Christmas and happy Hanukkah to everyone who celebrates either of those! Or both if you’re feeling festive… nobody can stop ya! Now buy (your gifts) and leave (to have a wonderful day)
1, i DID NOT KNOW that the hamster dance is just sped up robin hood intro! Dan? dan/arin? darren? imma stop. I DO remember them clamshell vhs tape binges and home movies, showing my age. edit jungle BOOK
Billy West is my all time favorite con guest. Took a picture with me and my wife, had a casual conversation with me about voice acting, and signed my Ren and Stimpy animation cel while singing Happy Happy Joy Joy.
The unusual frequency of hiccups as I've gotten older has me relying on thinking "I am not a fish" to myself. For some reason this gets rid of the hiccups almost right away every time. I'd definitely recommend it.
Aristocats was one of my favorite Disney movies when I was a kid (clamshell era) and I watched it more recently on Disney plus and MAN is the art and animation rough! They left in a bunch of sketch lines and stuff.
The Blue's Clues thing I think Dan was referring to is a Meat Canyon episode? Or one of those short horror comics that makes the rounds every so often on the IG algorithm lol
I met Billy West as well! Got to ask him about playing Bugs Bunny and if it is intimidating to play a character THAT iconic. He told a story about how when he first auditioned and got the roll he was a little intimidated, but when he got to start doing it and heard all the feedback he received from the directors, he realized that even the Mel Blanc Bugs Bunny was something that changed over the years, had different inflections and intonations to the voice, and each director wanted him to change it up slightly here and there. It made him realize even his idols in the field kinda went through the same process he did and it made him feel closer to them rather than "further" from them.
I love how this has slowly turned into a podcast with incidental supermarket management

Merry Christmas Grumps, and a Happy New year!
Thank you for the laughs and love guys.
best thing about christmas tbh, thanks grumps! Happy holidays to you
I shit you not, on the way to the family gathering yesterday we passed a closed down gas station/convenience store called Get N’ Slip. Oh lordy how I wished it was open. Merry Christmas y’all!
At 20:00, they haven't gotten the new sign yet, but they need one that says SURE THING, wouldn't you agree?
I love Arin taking me back to childhood cartoons and characters I havent thought of in a long time, with Aaah! Real Monsters, I Am Weasel, etc.
I freaking adore Charlie Adler and I am super happy Arin geeks out about him!
He's a fantastic voice actor with such a great range of characters, but you can still pick him out.
Love the black cauldron, one of my favourite Disney films.
Sword in the Stone was definitely the same as what they were saying. It's not a long movie, but the animation of whenever Arthur is interacting with his foster family, a lot of animation is reused because it's usually just some sort of conversation over dinner. But it makes it up for it with the main bits between Arthur and Merlin where they're always transforming into animals and learning about the world through their perspective, and ultimately the magic battle with Mim.
merry christmas, grumps!
“Huh! Definitely spent hours and hours of my life watching that… it’s like it never happened. I only remember the feeling of liking it.”
I feel this about Game Grumps 😀

🎵 It's Christmas, Christmas, gotta stock up on Christmas, everybody's looking forward to the Grumpy grocery! Buying and Leaving (yeah!) Buying and Leaving (yeah!) Fun fun fun fun, looking forward to the Comte Cheese 🎵
Hope the Grumps are enjoying a well-deserved break for the holidays! Love to all ❤
when it comes to binging thing i dont really have the problem they do, mostly because i only usually binge things that really get me hooked, and those are the shows that stick with me, stick in my memory
Never fails to amaze me that the human brain can retain so much.
you GOT TO BE KIDDING ME ISHINOMORI MADE A ZELDA COMIC AND I NEVER KNEW THAT WHAT THE FUCK??????
Feliz effectividad, amigos!
I absolutely love that y'all released a Supermarket episode on Christmas.
I hope Santa brings the Game Grumps everything that they asked for.
mirthful holidays everyone and thank you everyone at the grumps office for another year of great entertainment
Merry Christmas, Grumps and Lovelies!
I love the Eldritch Cartoon memes. The Blues Clues ones are good, I like the ones people do with the cult like use of the green sweater.
Eldritch Garfield is a classic.
13:36 "The potato man who made the fart joke."
Isnt that just you, Arin? 😅
Charlie Adler was also the voice of Buster Bunny on Tiny Toon Adventures in the 90s.👍🏻
It was so sweet to see his face light up Christmas morning with gifts brought to him by the Buy and Leave 🥰 (thank goodness they forgot to check the prices)
im older gen z, but i did grow up watching those clamshell tapes and other vhs before everything switched over to dvd, then we had so many of those
25:16 Cow and Chicken, I am Weazel, Rocko's Modern Life are golden cartoons
Not that he has to have every single one of Charlie Adler's roles memorized or anything, but I'm stunned Arin listed through characters voiced by Charlie Adler and didn't mention Buster freakin' Bunny from Tiny Toon Adventures, arguably his most famous character (or at least like top three).
Blue: "I ReQuIrE CLUES StEpHaN!"
Garfield: "I rEqUiRe LaAsGna JOHN!"
I want an episode of Danny losing his mind to Garfield creepypasta.
Eek the Cat had so many good joke deliveries, I'm surprised it's not mentioned more
Merry Christmas and happy Hanukkah to everyone who celebrates either of those! Or both if you’re feeling festive… nobody can stop ya!
Now buy (your gifts) and leave (to have a wonderful day)
1, i DID NOT KNOW that the hamster dance is just sped up robin hood intro! WT#?! :O
2, iirc winnie the pooh and jungle got a similar scene with christopher robin and mougli doing the same stone toss. does that count as that xerox Disney thing, Arin? Dan? dan/arin? darren? imma stop.
I DO remember them clamshell vhs tape binges and home movies, showing my age.
edit jungle BOOK
Relaxing in bed wrapped in my Grumps blanket watching Christmas market simulator, doesn't get better than this
Wow, I actually briefly fell asleep watching this because it's so nice and relaxing and my sleep schedule's fucked after the holidays
Billy West is my all time favorite con guest. Took a picture with me and my wife, had a casual conversation with me about voice acting, and signed my Ren and Stimpy animation cel while singing Happy Happy Joy Joy.
Merry Christmas Grump community! The Bye and Leave is open 24/7/365!
Merry Christmas, Arin!
Happy Hanukkah (in about 5 hours), Dan!
Thank you for this amazing gift today! Love me some Buy & Leave!
Merry Open On Christmas Supermarket, everyone
The unusual frequency of hiccups as I've gotten older has me relying on thinking "I am not a fish" to myself. For some reason this gets rid of the hiccups almost right away every time. I'd definitely recommend it.
Aristocats was one of my favorite Disney movies when I was a kid (clamshell era) and I watched it more recently on Disney plus and MAN is the art and animation rough! They left in a bunch of sketch lines and stuff.
"This is the last episode of..."
HEART ATTACK
"... our holiday wallpaper"
RELIEF ATTACK
The Blue's Clues thing I think Dan was referring to is a Meat Canyon episode? Or one of those short horror comics that makes the rounds every so often on the IG algorithm lol
The best gift I could ever hope for this Christmas. The Buy & Leave is open!
