OK Just did it at 40K miles...Dealer did not do it under warranty even though I had 35K before the three years were up. Took me 4 hours ( I was very cautious and looked up torque specs and plug gap...etc. The plugs that came out were gapped at between .035 and .040...I guess there was some wear. Thank you for the tutorial, 2015 Tanzanite M3. OBTW I did put just a touch of silicone grease on the O-rings and grommets..made reassembly go smoother.
I just did mine, all I can say is set aside at least 4 - 5hrs to get it done. And make sure you have ALL the right tools. It's not hard per se however you have to be very detailed and meticulous. LOTS and LOTS of bolts and trim grommets. You will need a magnetic capture tool because you WILL drop something in the engine bay. LOL Partly through it I had to ask myself was it worth doing it myself or paying $1K plus to have the dealer do it. When I pulled the plugs BMW did not gap them one bit. I assume the dealer would do the same. That is when I realized it is worth it to make sure its done right.
Don't be SCURRED! Just do it and be done with it. It's not that mechanically difficult. With no experience, you should be done in 5 hours with mistakes but if you've been turning wrenches, it can be done in 2 hours.
I ordered my kit through burger motorsports but I actually was sent a 4 pack of NGK's plus 2 single spark plugs so you might not have to buy the extra two if you chose not to
Great video, you don't see people on youtube working on modern M cars that often. Crazy how much you have to take apart though, in my E36 M3 it's only 2 bolts for the engine cover. Is gapping spark plugs something that is only done on turbo cars? I don't remember having to do it on my M3.
Yeah, you definitely always want to make sure there gaped correctly. They sometimes come prepared gaped but they can be off by a few thousandths. Mine were all over the place out of the box. Also the factory plugs were very inconsistent.
Kinda surprised you didn’t upgrade the charge pipes at the same time. Also surprised you didn’t start it up before putting all the braces and stuff back to ensure the plugs were all in ok.
You are a very surprised man. The charge pipes are very easy to get too and easy to replace. I actually blew my inner one but I repaired it. Currently waiting on some titanium hand made pipes 😊
Great info!!! I had an issue once when the power connector hadn’t seated all the way into the coil pack, engine was sputtering until I noticed a connector wasn’t all the way in😆👌🏽 I always do the coils whenever I’m doing the spark plugs.
Hey great video bro, I’m going to attempt to change mine on my F82 too but first I have ?? I was wondering if these plugs come pre-gap for the car if not what Bmw recommendation for gapping the plug because I’m thinking of getting this plugs instead.
Great video! Did everything like shown. But when turning the engine one - check engine light came on. I am going re-do the whole thing tomorrow. Maybe hve some pointers what could I have done wrong? I think maybe over torques the plugs? Or the gap is not right. I went for 0.022 - 0.023
@@BlakesGarage Thanks for the reply. There was a misfire on couple cylinders. So I just took the car t mechanic, let him do the rest. Didn't want to mess it up too badly. :D
I bought 6 from burger motor sports and gapped mine to .022 I’m tuned with bm3 stage 2 91. Bm3 says gap at .022 and burger motor sports says gap at .020 I have the same plugs as you and I don’t even know if they are 1 step colder or 2 steps colder lol ngk 97506 I believe
Yep, I did that for a reason like always. Check the manufacturer recommended values for that from BMW. I don’t say it for legal reason most of the time.
Hey may ask what will happen if you leave the stock gap? And also, if you have a slight difference like 1 plug 0.019 and other 5 0.020 would that cause any problems ?
Blake, how does the car “know” the service has been performed? Will the vehicle status update automatically or is there something you need to do to the computer?
@@BlakesGarage Makes me wish for my old '72 Delta 88. You could change all 8 plugs in 20 minutes. Headlights were six bucks from Pep Boys. Ah well...progress.

Well considering that you started in the middle of the day and you finished in the dark of night I'd say its still pretty damn time consuming. They are both "easy", no skill involved. Just the time consuming part of it is there as well.
Awesome. Starts when the sun is up, finishes when it no longer is. The days of 20 min spark plug changes are long gone.
Takes about 1 hour
Nicely done. And the accents and funny bits made it even better! Thanks for this great DIY
Tommy L Garage ....I agree. Such as @15:04 to go I thought I heard “im...por...ant”?
I’m guessing imporTant?

Dang good video. I just read the procedure in BMW's service manuals and this was spot on! Nice to put a video with the manual instructions.
Ummmm.... ya i'm never even going to attempt this. Thanks for saving me.

Thanks Blake! I replaced the plugs on my F82 with no problems. I appreciate the upload, cheers!
Awesome glad to hear I could help 👍🏼🏁🏁
I remember when plugs, leads and dizzy caps were easy as putting air in the tyres and took no more time.
Yep and a tune was a few jets accelerator pump cams and a screwdriver away. Then you pop out a spark plug and adjust from there.

I did not know about oem plugs cracking, time to order NGK's i guess with BMC Air filters and going to remove charcoal filters.

The most important part of the job, torque, is not mentioned.
Yep, I did that for a reason like always. Check the manufacturer recommended values for that from BMW. I don’t say it for legal reason most of the time.
Felt like you should’ve use a torque wrench on the spark plugs...great video tho👍🏻👌🏼
Great video, just for reference how many miles did you have on the current spark plugs before changing?
I think I had 6k when I made this video
I actually 3d Printer a CAP over that positive terminal, no more to worry about the sparkysssss
Wow that's crazy!
Great job!!
Thank God I work at O’Reilly, get them half off for my f82
Wow you did so much extra work you didnt need to, you dont have to remove the aluminum brace. But for video purposes it was good.
It definitely makes cylinder 6 easier.
How many miles was on the old spark plugs???
Outstanding vid men!
Thanks Brother, got it done yesterday👍👍👍
What torque on the plugs?
18ft-lbs of torque

I was there in my car so probably.

Awesome vid!!! Which charge pipes would you recommend on ESC tuning? Thx
Great Video bro thanks 😊💪
Wow! Cool video. The dealer charges $500 to change the plugs on a 335i. What would they charge for this ?!?!
Well it’s included with the warranty. But once that’s up I’m guessing $750-$1000 due to all the extra bracing and such.
@@BlakesGarage Makes me wish for my old '72 Delta 88. You could change all 8 plugs in 20 minutes. Headlights were six bucks from Pep Boys. Ah well...progress.
$1732 bmw of san diego
Jarrett Hurd My god!!! Anyone in Sacramento that need this done let me know now I'll only change $500
Why no anti-seize on the plugs??
The plugs have a coating built into them and it's unnecessary to do so anymore as it affects torque values.
Why no anti sieze ? How many miles on tune without crank hub upgrade ?
Spun the crank hub at 9K miles. No antisieze because new plug technology has a coating built in.
