The Southeast is so rich now with Football between Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale. We're all at each other's necks whenever we play each other.

Good video its fun to see people from elsewhere come to MLS games. Do have to always mention when I hear it though the interesting fact that the Iceland clap actually originates in the US, we’d been doing it here for a long time (I think it started in college basketball) and a Scottish fan saw it and took it back to Scotland, where an Icelandic fan heard it and brought it there. Similar sort of thing to how people outside of the US think of “the wave” as the “Mexican wave” but it actually was first done at Oakland A’s Baseball games and spread to Mexico from there.

Definitely got some of our chants wrong. The taunting of the keeper is a carry over from out local hockey team. When Joe Willis (our keeper) makes a big save the chant is "Joe says no!". Also, the supporters sections was chanting "oooooooh NSC" not Tennessee.

Enjoyed the video, glad you guys enjoyed your trip. There's no question MLS isn't anywhere close to the same standard as the EPL, but it's still cool to have professional soccer here in the States. Soccer is a sport that is growing in popularity and footprint here, so it's encouraging to see. My dream is to one day go to a Premiere League Game, I don't even care which team. I just want to experience the atmosphere and culture that I grew up watching every Saturday morning on TV.

I went to a Nashville SC match in 2021 when they played my club (Orlando City). It was the last season before they moved to Geodis (they're 2nd season in the league). I was incredibly impressed with their fans, being only the 2nd season of existence. I think that because Nashville's population has been growing so rapidly over the last decade, and that they only have 2 of the 4 "main" professional sports in America (NHL & NFL), really helped get locals behind the club.

  • @danieln3999

"Joe says no." As in Joe Willis, the gk. Also, as mentioned already, "Ooh oh, NSC," not "Tennessee." The chants are almost all the same as other MLS sides. Or in the case of the "It's all your fault" chant, taken from the local hockey team.

@@helloantoniotraveladventures The Thunderdome?!? Two teams enter, one team leaves! :)~
Seriously though, I think a rather easy way is to just compare average salaries. Generally speaking a league that pays its players a higher salary, will attract the better player, which is why the EPL is considered the best league in professional soccer. From what I could gather, the average salary for a player in the English Football League is £69,500 per year for League One. The average salary in player salary in MLS is between $300,000 to $700,000, depending on the team. I mean, seriously, MLS teams have homegrown teenage players who earn as much or more than the average League One player.

For future reference, I wouldn't worry about tipping at the concession stands. That is a relatively new thing culturally, and my entire life growing up we did not tip at concessions stands at sporting events. That is something that has begun with the spin around Ipad era POS systems. I still tip the lowest percentage often if I have the money to spare out of courtesy, but it is not like a sit down restaurant situation where you are culturally expected to tip 100% of the time and it is a big no no not to. I know the nuances of that stuff can be hard to pick up on/understand if you aren't from anglophone NA where tipping is the norm as there isn't a ton of rhyme or reason as to where you do and don't tip, and they basically leave it on as an option at the concession stands for tourists who aren't aware and for people who feel guilty when pressured. There are many situations where tipping expectations are different region to region in NA. I'm from the North East of the US, specifically NY metro area and there is very much a "i scratch your back you scratch mine" sort of attitude with things like tipping etc., and it is with things even like the garbage man. If you tip your garbage man really well around the holiday times where I am from they will come pick up ANYTHING from you, regardless of whether they're supposed to or not for the rest of the year. I moved to Michigan for work, did the same sort of thing, the garbage men were weirded out that I was tipping them and they did not give any special favors lmao. So there is a lot of cultural relativity with that stuff even within anglophone NA. By and large though you really as a tourist should only have to worry about tipping at sit down restaurants, ubers/taxis, and delivery persons like if you order food delivered. Outside of that you shouldn't encounter most other instances where it would be required. Maybe a hotel worker if you stay at a really nice place and they bring your bags up, but most places don't really do that anymore anyway. Either way, hope you enjoyed your visit/stay in the US and get to visit again soon. We love to meet people from other spots in the world, a lot of us never get to leave.

I think your estimation of the level is off. It's definitely at a Championship level. You rarely have full internationals playing for League 1 teams. I will agree that the entire team roster is not always consistent in quality particularly in defending because less money is spent there, however, the overall level is very competitive. I'm also an english expat but I have lived in the US for a number of years and have followed MLS for more than 20 years so I have a good sense of the league as opposed to seeing one game. Cheers. as somebody who has been a championship fan for about 10 years I disagree with Dan's assessment. Its firmly Championship level, even if all but the best teams of MLS are nowhere near the promotion and playoff teams. Its as if english people comparing MLS to League 1 forget that half the championship is really mediocre and many of the teams have slogs of seasons with no inconsistency. Transfer fees, wages, interaction on transfer market, etc point to a peer relationship between MLS and the Championship.
Organization in MLS, especially on the defensive side of the ball can be poor. Overall theres less commitment to keeping the game in front of you and this is why it gets end to end. Americans are great to play for a win, but im less confident for an american team to play for a draw when they need it. Some teams in MLS are incredibly organized defensively, but they are exceptions.
However, looking at the lineups of this match the top end players of both teams are elite championship borderline prem players. the median player is also right around the average championship standard, more so with atlanta but their manager was subpar and Nashville is better managed. When you get to the bench is when a comparative gulf in quality emerges in my opinion. i believe organization is more important, but at the same time each MLS team has 2-5 players that would be one of the top players on every championship team and that counts for something. To give you an idea, between 4 players on this Atlanta team (3 on the pitch, 1 injured) their sales total €50m and I really have no doubt any one of Giakoumakis, Thiago Almada, Caleb Wiley, or Luiz Araujo wouldve gotten into and made even the 22/23 Burnley team better

I think it makes the stadium atmosphere better, but the flip side is that it reinforces tribalism and pulls people apart rather than bringing them together as I feel this sport should do. We don't segregate at rugby here, for example, and I feel that makes it a much more convivial experience

As an American I love hearing British people listen to our national anthem 😅 it's the ultimate rub salt into a wound song. America baby built on dreams and slavery 😅 still the best country in the world also the strongest

@@helloantoniotraveladventures That's probably because it's set to the tune of the Anacreontic Society song which was a gentlemen's club in high society London from 1766 to 1792.

I'm born in the US to a british parent but live in the UK now. I went to an ice hockey game in the USA recently and was shocked by the anthem. I go to top flight domestic football loads in the Uk and we don't do the anthem as you know, but in America it's before every game. I didn't stand, I don't support America and can't stomach what they are doing in Gaza and what has been done in that country's name. No one said anything but I think I was the only one out of 30K people to not stand.

@@helloantoniotraveladventures I was on edge but it felt even weirder to participate in obligatory patriotism that means nothing to me, in a so called ‘free country’. And they make fun of north korea 😂

My late step dad was from Brentford ,England. He coached soccer in Texas for 35 years. If he had seen you three EATING DURING OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM, he would've had words for you. He was a paratrooper in the RAF. And would've been ashamed of the disrespect you three showed us. Very very disappointing
