I have been looking forward to Grenada for months now and we finally MADE IT! Between the autopilot issues and the upwind angle with high winds, it was a very uncomfortable sail, which made our arrival even sweeter.

Awww, treats for Mako, cat's got the good life!!! You sleep below during the day? You sleep below at night - is dangerous?. I' d be sleeping in the cockpit during the day. Nothing like that peaceful feeling after about the 3rd day at sea. I would love to feel that again

I admire you beyond measure. I respect you and your passages. I started off as foretopman on the Topsail Schooner Bill of Rights in Tall Ships 1976. (125 ft, no motor) and ended up a Master Mariner with the equator, dateline and Artic Circle multiple times. Sail on girl~!~!~!

Sorry for your frustrations. We all deal with them. Even at my age it’s still a thing. But I learned that we all have a problem with our “wanters” that part of us that when we want something like the auto pilot and everything to work well, and when it doesn’t we want it to work so much that it causes frustrations and unhappiness, anger even sometimes, but the trick is when your not getting what your wanting, work at not wanting it. Just maybe even enjoy sailing old school style like many still do. 😊

Hi Lauren. About your dinghy tackle, the davits appear to be wider than the attachment points inside the hull. Perhaps there'd be less motion if the tackle hung straight down. When heeled over, does the angle cause one side to be looser and the other carry more weight? Just a suggestion. I enjoy watching your voyage.

I empathize with your issues with your autopilot, it occurred to me that it might be a question of low power reaching the control, it seemed to work well when the engine was running.

auto pilot working intermitten usually means a loose or rubbing wire, ?use some electric grease on connections and maybe check some crimps....Can't be easy...

Great to see another video. They are brilliant. I have my own boat but I still love watching you sail yours. Have you had a good read of the Autopilot manual. There is a bunch of configuration you can do. So make sure the rudder indicator is set up correctly. Then there is the sea state setting. Also the compass deviation setting and of course compass calibration. There is quite a bit of configuration to check and set correctly. I know because I am setting mine up at the moment. There is also a setting for northern or southern hemisphere I just found. Lastly you can set the autopilot to steer to a wind angle which means you can sail close to the wind without loosing drive when the wind shifts a bit. Oh and the better the sails are balanced the better the autopilot will work.

@@laurenlanders hum you should only need to set it up correctly once. So check for loose and corroded connections between ALL your instruments as the Autopilot relies on data from the wind instrument, the compass, speed through the water and gps. Lastly if the unit is very old then it could simply be that the configuration memory is worn out. Good luck in finding the cause.

Stay safe out there! Cargo ships and tankers don't always look out for you. Sleeping inside while having problems with autopilot and navigation lights seems a bit scary!
I always get a volunteer crew member to assist during passages longer than a couple days.
