Euglena under microscope at 10x obj. Raw version.

  • Euglena sp., 10x objective.
    Found in a drop of water pipetted out of the detritus at the bottom of my aquarium.
    The Euglena is a single-celled organism which can photosynthesize like a plant, but move more like an animal using a whip-like flagellum. When the sun isn't available, it can also consume organic matter.
    So, as I understand it, if a single-celled organism is moving around like a microscopic slug on your slide and it swims around using its flagellum, it's likely a Euglena...
    I'd love to know for sure which (of the 200!) species this one is. I think its contortions into the shape of a mushroom or umbrella are pretty amazing.
