What if the pole is 10ft and he moves backwards as you engage forward?

    • @TOMMYBOY6969

Good question. That is why in Wing Chun, we dont advance when the opponent is still, cause they can move backwards. We only advance at the same time they are advancing.

Hey, I got the same haircut. Great explanation. I was learning bart cham dao before covid so I just put the pole in my wooden man arm hole to train on my own. Love to see more videos on drills to train.

Actually I always thought the left hand really was to cut off the fingers, this really makes sense. Great explanation, subscribed.

very good point on cutting the hands first!

for this move you are not supposed to move your left hand, the knife will continue to move until it cuts into the leading hand of your opponent (potentially dislodging the weapon) while your right stab the knife to the body of your opponent. so technically the staff would able to hit you because your left knife will be at least blocking the staff or slicing into the leading hand

Going to try this in Matayoshi Kobudo with sai! The two kata I study that cross sai tie up to throw the opponents weapon away from you.

If you are in the last position and the opponent use the left hand or the left foot to beat you is'nt it dangerous? I'm not sarebbero is the best solution, direct, straight, but more dangerous.

  • @andrewlai3598

i do agree however, this move is too clumsy as you have to circle your knife then move forward, in my opinion tan dao or gan dao probably would be quicker.

    • @andrewlai3598
      @andrewlai3598 3 ปีที่แล้ว

but you have to understand this move is for when the pole thrust is very close to body you don't have time for lap dao or tan dao, you only have time to tilt your body and use the gap dao to trap the pole and then immediately follow with a circle knife and then strike, if you have more time to react to a thrust you would not use this move. this is an emergency move.

The huen is controlling the weapon as you move in.
I have used this many times again a fast moving agile sword.
So your initial catch is wrong and your understanding of how the huen works against another weapon is also off.
Get out there and use these techniques and you'll figure these things out.👍

If I was fighting a pole fighter, I'm going to try striking the person on the outside of the body clinging the knifes to the pole. U can cut & damage the fighter with both knifes with 1 close to the pole fighter's hand & arm. Also, U render the pole useless & ineffective because of your too close 2 the fighter & do lethal damage to him.

I have never seen anyone say that defence/attack combo.
    It's just ridiculous.

Gave up watching about half way through. Tommy boy is 1. Doing the "clamp" parry and entry totally wrong. His huen (circle) movement doesn't even wrap around and control the pole (think "snake" if you do FMA). No wonder he fears getting whacked in the head! 2. His timing is entirely off. You don't stand still and parry, and then step inside (like in the form). You follow the the kuit (motto) "as he moves I move" and parry as you step inside past the end of the pole. That is, you step in simultaneously as your opponent thrusts the pole. His break-down is so messed up that it makes me wonder who's pole techniques he learned.
One last thing. The pole comes from the spear, the "mother of all weapons". In an open area, a good pole man has an advantage. BCD is better in tight quarters.

You will never catch a pole or staff in that manner. Never.
This shows your lack of combat/sparring experience

Would you like to say what lineage this is please. Or are these your own ideas. I am not an expert, so who to believe ? In your improved version I have seen forms where the the rear sword sits in the crook of the rear elbow, but your blades look too close together. You will cut yourself with rear blade . What you first point to is wrong about Huen do makes sense, at least you are open minded and looking for the efficient moves
