  • It's time to do our homework. Sabsy Ongkiko is a proud Ateneo alumna who is currently pursuing her personal vocation in life as a public school teacher. She's currently living out her dream of teaching by using her students' dreams as her inspiration to push for a better education system in the country. What will be the parting remarks of this DepEd spokesperson before she leaves to pursue further studies on Education in Australia?
She grows the nation with her passion for education.

I can't stop crying while listening to her speech. My mom is a public school teacher and everyday she tells me of her students' funny moments at school and their struggles with life - of how they have to sell espasol first before going to school just so they have an allowance; of how one of her students passed out because he has not eaten anything for the day; of how her students' moms have to wash somebody else's clothes 10 hours a day just for a living; and how her students' parents can't sign their children's report cards because they don't know how to write.
We really need talented, dedicated, and passionate public teachers. It's a demanding job but a very rewarding one -- as my Mom said, everywhere she goes, everyone greets her and calls her "Ma'am". :)

I was crying listening to this.. I am on my first year as a classroom teacher. Im teaching in a community college. Giving my best all the time. Pushing my students to their limits, giving them all i can, inspiring them to the core all at my expense. But each time i give myself, i receive so much love. And the purpose why I am teaching is because i believe in the bright future of the Philippines. Economy. Society. Environment. And the youth is the best investment that we can always hold onto. And I know this because I was Social Worker for 2 years. Now, I am a teacher to Education students. I believe in their potential,
Kudos Teacher Sabrina! I am Teacher Kim and I will share your message to my future-educator students. My heart goes to u. Im sending you thanks and love.

I am a senior high school student and an inspiring teacher too. I will use your motivational talks and wisdom in order to become a teacher. You empowered me so much. Her story is so inspiring. many mistook people's choice for studying Teacher Education is for income but they do not know that teacher has one of the meager salaries in the Philippines. So there is no way for us to enrich ourselves with money. However, we are rich with knowledge, experiences and love from our students. We sacrifice every time and effort we have because we want to help every Filipino students to have quality education despite the lack of educational things like classrooms, books, teachers, etc. We love teaching because we are born to teach. Kudos to Sabsy for seeing the positive outlook of working in a public school because there is no place as that. :)

it's true. the role of the teacher is not only to teach the basic skills, but to mold the hearts of the young and change their lives into a better one. kudos, Sab. how i pray that all teachers will have the heart like you and the vision for all the pupils entrusted to them. God bless you always.

Tears are flowing in my cheeks as she talks about Darwin...

Idol :). I love how it's so clear in the way she talks about her profession and her students that she really is passionate and that she really does care.
