Is it possible that the state of being petrified renders the victims inedible to the basilisk? Petrified translated to mean turned to stone (or some physical equivalent thereof)

I find it funny how there are charms on the dorms to prevent guys from going into the girls' dorm, but they didn't think to put those charms on the bathrooms.
Considering the bathrooms weren't there in the original castle (they were added later since wizards usually just made it anywhere and made it disappear), maybe the charms were made by the founders and once the bathrooms were done no one thought of replicating the ideia on them
This means that Voldemorts HUGE undoing/ flaw in his plan- was because someone else (Myrtle) feared death and came back as a ghost. His plan to avoid death was foiled because someone was too afraid to die.
I don't believe she did fear death. I don't know exactly from where, but as this channel has quoted a few times at this point, she didn't originally haunt the bathroom, she originally came back to punish Olive Hornby, which she did until the ministry ordered her back to her place of death (likely at least part of the reason she's usually in that bathroom instead of anywhere else in the castle), at which point it was far too late for her to properly die.
@@marshawargo7238 I doubt the ministry can 'kill' ghosts, otherwise most ghosts would probably want that. They seem to have a pretty miserable existence. Maybe the Veil could do it (that's already a huge question), but that one is in the ministery of secrets. I highly doubt the people that are in the know would just casually sugget to use it as a threat (is it even?) on a, from the ministries perspective, random girl.
I have never even thought about the basilisk “ripping and tearing” the spiderwebs 😂 It’s so comical considering how terrifying it sounds when it speaks 😂
I think Myrtle's death is significant to Voldemort. I don't think he cares about her particularly, but I think he considers it his first true success as the heir of Slytherin.
My theory is that Salazar Slytherin never intended the basilisk to harm any student in the school he helped create. Which is why only one person was ever killed by it. It was a mistake.! I think it was to be used I defense of the school
No, he clearly wanted to wipe out all muggle born because he saw them as lesser beings, as enemies. The basilisk was supposed to purge the school, not defend it.
VIdeo idea: What if at the end of the third book, Sirius or Lupin literally just stunned/petrified Peter before leaving the shrieking shack, preventing him from ever escaping? Never understood why they DIDN'T do that, especially since Hermione had no problem freezing Neville at the end of the first book...
Love that. Don't know if there is any way to actually find out factual information about that though. The books are vague about it and pottermore doesn't go into it either. Interesting idea though! ❤
@@nhansen197 I don't see how it would affect a specific teaching position. The diadem was hidden in the Room of Requirements, not the Defense Against Dark Arts classroom.

Also, you guys have routinely stated that the Diary was insignificant or possibly even despised by Voldemort. Potentially for being a "muggle" object. But later we get lines from Voldemort about how "he is extraordinary" in reference to ownership of the Elder Wand. Wouldnt it follow that Voldemort would consider the diary slecial because he owned it, ranking himself right alongside the significance of the four Founders and a maledictus snake that he can control?
That kind of makes Myrtle like the rat that accidentally lets Scott out of the quantum realm. Insignificant, unimportant, but just happened to be in the right place at the right time to set off a chain of events that ultimately results in defeating the bad guy's master plan.
Doubtful. Voldemort is exceedingly arrogant. It probably never crossed his mind as a possibility that he would get caught. Also, it's not the same kind of significance. All the other horcruxes were made with relics and very meaningful deaths. Not a rando in the girls bathroom. Lol.
@@philadelphiajewishvoice6171 i know this is probably a joke, but... a muggle born is a wizard or a witch born in muggle family(sorry, i'm Potterhead)
@@UnfazedPhoenixvoldemorts arrogance is exactly why he would think it was significant. He has salazar’s heir has just continued his work of killing muggleborns and so would have seen it as claiming his important place in the wizarding world. The other horcrux were significant objects and Tom would have seen his own diary as also significant as he is “The Lord Voldemort” after all
@@conormurphy4328 @conormurphy4328 you missed the point. I wasn't addressing any of what you said. I was acknowledging what OP said about Tom Riddle/Voldemort believing it was significant because he didn't get caught. My point was that his arrogance wouldn't allow for him to even consider that he would get caught.
I agree with most of this, but think it leads more to the argument that the diary was first. Myrtle's death becomes significant if it's Voldemort's first kill. The diary being muggle made enraged him to want far more significant items in the future
It's vexing that we can't get a better idea about what is required to make a horcrux. Murder to rip the soul. And something to finish the ripping so a part of the soul is completely torn away. And something must be done to the horcrux to be that makes it able to contain a piece of soul. Both of these things must be fairly simple and easy to do for Tom to horcrux the diary on the spot like that.
@@DarkBanks3He IS. Despite your irrational bias he is canonically one of the most powerful wizards to ever live. He is stated to be stronger than Grindelwald. Dumbledore said that Tom Riddle was propably the most brilliant student to ever step in Hogwarts Dumbledore said that Voldemorts had powers he will never have. Their fight in the novel was actually not one sided like people remember,it was mostly inconclusive. In the novel Dumbledore wasnt concerned with protecting Harry as he had statues do that. Voldemort in the movie outright overloaded Dumbledores defences causing him to fall down, when he screamed NYAAAAAAAAAAH for some reason (movies are secondary canon). Voldemort in the novels fought Minerva and 2 other wizards on par with her at the SAME TIME.(Yes he is 3x Prime Snapes power) Him dying to Harry is simply his OWN curse rebounding at him due to the primordial power of love. Voldemorts destructive potency is above EVERYONE, Dumbledore included. Even if Dumbledore is overall "greater". Dumbledore said that if Voldemort returned at full power then not even HIS own protective charms and spells would prove to be invincible. In the novel Fawkes had to swallow an Avada Kedavra cause it would have hit and killed Dumbledore in the duel. Contrary to popular belief, wizard do NOT get weaker with age. Thats not how magic works. If anything their wisdom makes them better. You just don't like Voldemort. You remind of the people downplaying Firelord Ozai for the same reason, even though he was canonically the strongest firebender shown in the show(though i believe his children would later on surpass him once they grew older) If you are talking about YOUNG Riddle then yes he wouldn't compare to the most powerful wizards but taking into account his age he would still be that great relatively. Voldemorts innate power was greater than everyone but his closed minded attitude towards anything than the dark arts comes to bite him Dumbledore himself said that Voldemorts knowledge of magic was likely beyond ANY wizard and he is stated to have pushed dark magic beyond anything before him. He was comparable, albeit weaker than Elder Wand Dumbledore and he is repeatedly indicated and outright heavily implied by Dumbledore to be MORE powerful than him if not for the Elder Wand
The diary was definitely created intentionally. It was created not only to house Voldemort’s soul but also to do exactly what it did open the Chamber of Secrets. Everything about it serves to further the mission. It’s a plain muggle book in order to not arouse suspicion but the name and date are there to make whomever holds it curious, it being impervious to most liquid damage also furthers that cause. Once someone figures that out they’ll try to write in it if their curiosity hasn’t made them already try it and once they start that’s when the trap is sprung and the book sinks its teeth into the unwitting victim. Bonus points if they pour enough of themselves into the book that Tom can start manifesting.
Option 1: Having no resistance to the status effect you inflict. Both are petrified. Option 2: One has resistance. One leaves the encounter unpetrified. Option 3: Both have resistance. Mutual affection from finding someone/something that they can actually interact with.
@@Drakonus75 I mean surely the basilisk had seen it's own reflection before so it's got some immunity to it's own stare. although I'm not sure of medusa didn't she turn herself to stone?
Interesting. Medusa is technically human - she isn't a goddess. So i think the basilisk would petrify or kill her. Meduda's stare is only known to work on humans, there's no record of it affecting creatures so I think the basilisk has the advantage there as well
My theory is that making a horcrux is more than just murder. There is other steps and some intent involved. Voldamort must have wrote the steps and secrets, as well as his intents, into his diary before hand. Treating the diary as part of himself at that time; his secrets private thoughts. So when myrtle died by accident, there was enough raw negative emotions poured into the diary that the DIARY ITSELF completed the steps and became a horcrux. As for why the diary was important, I think it was voldamorts first attempt making an enchanted artifact. Make it similar to the map that distorts the words and hides what is actually written unless you do something specific. I think voldamort would have pushed it to become something like a mirror for his thoughts. He would explain his thoughts and the diary would verify and encourage his own thoughts. Then once it became a horcrux all he had to do is tweak the enchantments on it.
Something just crossed my mind. Why would Tom Riddle keep going back to the orphanage? It seems that in the interest of secrecy that fostering an orphan with a wizard family would be safer. Molly practically did that for Harry and probably would have if Dumbledore didn't he insist he spend some time each year with the Dursleys. Riddle apparently had friends, or at least people who considered him a friend. He was a top student, like Dumbledore level good. Seems like the sort of kid a Slytherin family would be willing to take in, similar to how Slughorn "collects" talented and/or well connected students.
Riddle didnt have friends. He had servants. He probably went back to the orphanage because there he was top dog. He was feared by the staff and other children. He could do as he wished and no one told him what to do. If he was to be fostered by a wizarding family the adults would have authority over him, they would tell him what to do, he wouldnt be able to use magic and he would have to keep the mask of civility he used when at school up over the summer. When he was at the orphanage they already knew what kind of person he truly was. They were terrified of him by the time he was 11. He couldnt use magic either way but the orphanage allowed some freedom. To his mind if he was able to stay at school over the summer he would be able to explore unrestricted learn more magic, practice magic and not have much interaction with whichever teacher(s) remained as well.
@@JessicaClark-lq4gwit's more simple then that. He had nowhere else to go. Students aren't allowed to stay at Hogwarts over summer break. Sometime after he finished school at Hogwarts he burned that orphanage to the ground.
@UnfazedPhoenix the question in the comment is why didnt he have anywhere else to go. Why he didnt go stay at a "friends" house. My thought is he didnt go to another wizarding home because he didnt ask. Professor Dippet says in the diary memory that arrangements could be made for Riddle to stay at Hogwarts in other circumstances but due to the attacks he couldnt. Riddle hadnt asked before that. Edit to add: essentially if he had asked one of the budding death eaters if he could go to their homes they would have done it. Their parents would allow it because who wouldnt be taken in by the poor orphan boy who has to go back to a muggle orphanage? He didnt ask and my 1st comment explains why.
The Diary was created AFTER Rubeus Hagrid was arrested. This is why it shows Harry the memory of Tom acusing Hagrid. The Tom from the diary also describes the aftermath of Hagrid's arrest (Dumbledore knowing it was him and keeping him under constant vigilance). When Dumbledore says that Voldemort chose the Diary because it proved his heritage, he probably meant the Diary contained Tom's research on his heritage (ultimately showing he is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin), and his exploration and discoveries about the mysteries of the Chamber of Secrets, and the things Mofin Gaunt told him. This, ironically, is not far from what the Golden Trio guessed the Diary contained at first.
That assumes he never used the diary after making it a horcrux. Personally I think he tampered with it after making it a horcrux, which is why it had the power to drain Ginny and start to make a copy of himself.
Exactly. I think the assumption that Myrtle's death was the one used to make the diary a horcrux is incorrect. Everything points to Tom deciding to create the diary horcrux after she died and he framed Hagrid and Dumbledore started suspecting him, not immediately after killing her and before finding out the school was likely to be closed. That timeline doesn't fit.
Tom had the diary before Hagrid was arrested. In order for him to record Hagrid's arrest he would have had to have it BEFORE the event not after. Also, he didn't create the diary he created a horcrux with the diary.
I think the diary IS significant. Tom saw himself as the greatest wizard to be, he has a massive ego. I do feel that Voldy would consider his life on paper to be immensely significant. It being muggle bought is a bit of a miss but I do think Voldy values his legacy to be on par with the greatest wizards to be.
I agree that Voldy considers his story and lineage to be extremely important, but like you said, the diary is just too mundane an object. It seems likely to me that he didn't plan to make it a horcrux, but once he did, he added extra enchantments to it to store his legacy because he needed it to be important and special. Rather than originally choosing an object which was already noteworthy, he had to make do with making it special himself (and that's why it's much more magical and clever than his other horcruxes imo).
It being called a "diary" is probably wrong also, it's more likely a blank book he used to write down his research on his history, or any secret he was looking into/found.
@@Jambler257 but to be honest, even then I find "I killed someone might as well make a horcrux" to seem very out of character. The book is definitely the strangest one
If the diary hadn't been created or, at the very least, Luscious (sp?) hadn't given it to Ginny, the basilisk could've been used in the battle of Hogwarts. Now that's a scary thought.
Voldemort himself would have had to get into the school and open the chamber in order to use the basilisk though. The odds of that are pretty low by the time of the battle of hogwarts
Making a horocrux in the first place was a mistake but he should have made them from mundane things that no one would suspect... But voldys ego would never let that happen😅😅😅😅
Not just his ego, although, yeah. But his narcissistic, sadistic nature made that literally impossible. As Dumbledore mentions in half blood prince. He collects trophies of his victims to forever commemorate his “victory” over others. That is why I disagree with the theory in this video. He did believe the diary was meaningful. It is the recording of his time at Hogwarts, and links him to “the greatest” of the four founders, allowing him to disassociate from his muggle side. In fact I would go as far as to say that it’s because of the diary that Dumbledore started connecting the dots of the horcrux’s being significant objects to Voldemort.
@@Huebz I mean, one kid (don’t remember which one) was saved by looking through Nearly-Headless Nick, and there’s no reflection there, so glasses would probably petrify too.
I've always said the baskalsk wasnt designed to kill students but to be used as a weapon in case the castle was ever sieged by muggles (who considering when it was created seems like a reasonable fear). The purpose was just distorted over the years.
@@sir9integra9jr yeah I can't spell. Still I think it was to be a weapon against muggles not students, mostly because I don't think Slytherin was really that evil of a guy, he just desperately wanted to keep the school safe from Muggles and thought inviting muggle borns was just asking for trouble
I think they say that murder tears the soul and to repair it, you need to feel genuine remorse. So I guess if you don't feel remorse your soul stays with a split and you could probably do it later.
The one thing I find strange is that this implies every murder creates a horcrux. He could have just not made it right? It seems more to me like this was him cutting off his mugol side to an extent.
It doesn't though. It is just a requirement as it simply splits the soul. The process of Horcrux making involves taking this piece of the soul and placing it in a container, with an act and an incantation. As a side note, remorse is the only way of healing a split soul back into one whole piece.
Here’s one I thought of: what if Snape managed to hear the entire prophecy when Trelany told it to Dumbledore? If Voldemort knew the second half of the prophecy (the one will be marked as Voldemort’s equal, has a power V doesn’t know, etc), would that have changed how he acted in attacking the Potters?
@@lukeroberson2115no, I'd imagine since Voldemort wouldn't do it himself, Snape would volunteer to go after the Potter's. He would kill James and then go to Harry, pleading with Lily to get out of the way because she doesn't have to die. Lily would in turn he pleading with Severus to take her and spare her son. And from there either Snape would back down and offer to protect both Lily and the child, knowing he wouldn't get Lily to sacrifice her son. Or he'd try to force her back and when he went to use the killing curse, she'd step in front of it, killing Lily instead. And that would also lead to 2 outcomes of either 1. Snape then tries to kill Harry but the protection is there and rebounds on Snape and kills him. 2. Snape, in remorse, takes the child back to Dumbledore to protect.
Voldemort was dead-set throughout the entire story that he must be the one to kill the child in the prophecy, and I don't think that would change much if he knew everything. It seems to me that he would ignore the details warning that an attempt to kill him would backfire. I actually don't think much would be different from the actual story. With that said, it's possible he wouldn't have gone to the Potters alone, but would have taken a few of his best Death Eaters to be his backup.
Nagini is a human with a maledictus curse forcing her to remain in snake form. My best guess would be that you can't make beasts/creatures into a horcrux. All the other horcruxes are objects or human. But! If he could have made the basilisk a horcrux, it would have been an awesome idea ! 🔥🔥❤
I thought he used Frank Bryce's death to make Nagini a horcrux before he returned because he was 1 short and was working on his return. He didnt know the diary was destroyed until after he returned and found out from Lucius it was gone.
I still fully believe that the Diary was (Riddle)Voldemort's first Horcrux, and it was from Myrtle's death at the eyes of the Basilisk. He had by then(being a Prefect allowed to roam after hours) had discovered the magic in the Restricted Section and attempted to kill multiple times.. the snake, failing to do more than incidentally petrify the victims was almost superficial because Riddle may have cast a killing curse or the snake may have been the cause of death.. either way Myrtle surprised them and Riddle capitalized on it with his first Horcrux. THEN he'd have turned subsequent kills into the rest. As the only one that stands as an outlier Horcrux AND an outlier death I think it must have been the first. Then, the Ring.
The bit of Voldemort's soul in the diary knows things that happened *after* Myrtle's murder. In fact, *everything* the diary shows Harry happened after that. So was Voldemort capable of communicating with his soul fragment, giving it further memories? Because the soul fragment does not keep to date automatically with all that happens to Voldemort Prime; if it did, it would have known everything about the fall of Voldemort Prime, and it very clearly doesn’t.
He lost likely was able to communicate by writing in it the same way Ginny did. The horcrux retained the memory of what Ginny told him when bragging to Harry in the chamber.
Voldemort was in possession of the diary until a certain point. I would imagine he had it throughout school and up until he lost his powers. At some point during that time he obviously placed it where Lucius had access to it.
@@calvinwright2214 Since Harry actually sees the events (and is not just told about them), I imagine Riddle used more than mere writing to place them in the diary. Perhaps the process was more similar to placing strands of memory in a Pensieve
The diary was the first horcrux he made not the second. The ring was second. You all are reversing their order creation to fit a theory. He opened the chamber during his 5th year he didn't gain the ring and turn it into a horcrux until that summer when he left his orphanage behind.
⚠️Off topic from video, day one of asking ⚠️ There are three what ifs I think need to be done. What if Dudley was a wizard and went to Hogwarts? What if Aang didn't run away and died during that attack and the new avatar became one of the other characters? I think the most interesting would be Zuko and Sokka. What if Prim had to do her Hunger Games and became the Mockingjay? The only way I see that happening is if Katniss gets caught hunting a year or two before the first book and either gets killed or arrested and sent to the Capital to become an avox, all this to say it would not only force Prim to do her Hunger Game but she would also have to take Katniss's place and learn to hunt and some survival skills, I'm not saying she'd be as good as Katniss but she'd have something.
I could imagine Prim be more of a gatherer than a hunter, coming back from the forest with mushrooms, herbs, nuts and fruits, making medicine and selling it/treating people. I can see her become more of a medicinal genius rather than a genius with bow and arrow, though she might still meet Gale, develop something akin to little sister & older brother relationship with him. He might teach her how to carve out the good meat from already hunted game, how to set traps and the likes. But I don't think Prim would ever really warm up to hunting. She might only pick up knowledge about it, mainly from Gale.
My head cannon is The low death counts of The books is due to protective spells. That would obviously be there for a school like Hogwarts, probably why there's no pregnancies, in a co-ed school that's so easy to sneak around at night in, too😂

Never put together that Bertha was part of the process of Voldemort creating a horcrux. Always thought that Nagini already was a horcrux for some reason. Always new things to learn.
Had a question while listening to Deathly hallows the other day and wanted to hear scb fam's thoughts. Why would Regulus have told kreacher to disaperate without him and to destroy the locket, rather than just... Having kreacher take him with him?
It was probably a combination of things. He would have had to drink that potion that causes immense suffering to get access to the locket and by the time Kreacher had arrived, he was being dragged into the lake by the Inferi. He likely wouldn't have been thinking straight, so all he could do was instruct Kreacher to do what he initially set out to do, which was destroy the locket. Kreacher was also distressed as well being in the cave, as he was in there when Voldemort initially put the locket in the cave and he had to drink the same potion to test it out and Voldemort left him in there to die (this is also how Regulus knew of the cave in the first place). Kreacher would be understandably distressed to see his master dying in a cave he himself almost died in and likely wasn't thinking straight as well, so all he could do was follow his master's orders. That's how I see it at least.
@@justicefool3942to add to that, you need blood to enter the cave, blood that probably could be traced, he knew he would die anyway I think, there or by Voldie himself.

Based on this theory, what would happen if Myrtle never was teased about her glasses would someone else have died during school? Would that mean that the diary was never created , harry never faced the basilisk, Hagrid never accused Dumbledore never found out about horcrux being created etc?
That's a good one. I imagine their first go to would be that it'd just happen on another day, so I'd phrase it as what if Tom Riddle never encountered anyone else while opening the chamber of secrets? .. If the diary truly was a horcrux of opportunity then I imagine it wouldn't be made during that time period.. eventually someone else would have died though as Voldemort had opened the chamber.. so he would probably still frame Hagrid and all of that would go down the same way. But- would the diary become a horcrux .. interesting
The basilisk can’t kill someone JUST by looking at them. It has to make direct eye contact. Not just see, but be seen. That does make it a lot harder, especially with so many twisty turney corridors and infrastructure. And wait, if making a horcrux involves some level of unspeakable desecration to a body, how is it not obvious that the death (even though it might have been at the eyes of a basilisk) served the purpose of creating a horcrux?
Tom Riddle jr. killed 3 people the night at the Gaunt shack. There he murdered the Muggle man who had abandoned his witch mother, and, for good measure, his Muggle grandparents. Myrtle's death was after the 3 people in Little Hangleton if the ring is the first Horcrux.
To add on to this, does anyone else think that Voldemort could’ve left the diary behind to continue to search for death eaters like the marauders did with the map? And then the reason Lucius Malfoy is so trusted by him is because he found the diary instead of being given it. Meaning the death eater who failed him most only was trusted because he unwittingly found the horcrux that was a mistake. In every way, Voldemort is his own worst enemy
i think in voldemort's mind, killing murtle was significant because he was doing what salazar slytherin had wished for. getting rid of the muggleborn in hogwarts. and voldemort loved hogwarts or something close to love since he cannot love
It bought him an extra sixteen years, six months and two days of life...thirteen years, seven months and twenty-four days of which were spent as a useless mist.
When death scares you. You start doing things outside your norms. My grandma turned 50 and would stay awake all night reading romance novels and thinking about her life's missed oppurtunities
I dont agree. I would create a few horcruxes by killing only people that deserved it or should die for others protection. Creating horcruxes to avoid death is understandble. He did a LOT more than that, like you know, starting a war and trying to take over yet wizarding world and wanting to commit partial genocide. I too, dont want to EVER die,i would gladly create a few horcruxes if i could.
He made loads of mistakes really. He thought he was better than everyone else, and his shear arrogance showed that. The only reason he was good/skilled at magical elements was because of his Lich methods. He created dark objects to immortalise him, which gave him a whole bunch of power he never had before. He relied on that alone, and it became his downfall. He didn't think anyone would challenge him, or discover his secret.
well, maybe it was hidden. perhaps he had asked Lucius to place it in his vault. but Lucius gave it away without being ordered to do so as for the memory it showed, this was more than just Tom's soul being in there, but, like a pensive, he also placed a memory in it. Harry compares the two experiences to each other
It sounds like the basilisk was really just a sweet giant snake that had some bad owners. This just furthers my love for the Carlin interpretation of Harry becoming the owner of the basilisk
I just wanna say I still don't think the basilisk killed myrtle. I think she looked over but again only saw the reflection of the eyes in the mirrors above the sink. She got petrified but Tom thought he was caught and couldn't risk her coming out of petrification, so while she was petrified from the reflection Tom saw the best opportunity to not only get rid of the only witness, but to create another horcrux like he had just started to experiment with the prior summer. Because the only time the basilisk ever attacked was at the command of Tom Riddle and Tom definitely didn't say anything to tell the snake to attack in either movie or book. And it was an accidental petrification much like most of the ones in Harry's time. But again Tom being Tom saw how to opportune on a mishap.
Something i picked up on just resonantly was that the memory that tom shows harry is when he chose to make the dairy a hulcrux. He just didn’t let harry in the room while he did it. Which also to me at least means i think that he had just that day killed myrtle. I think the diary was a back up plan for getting someone else caught. Incase the frame Hagrid plan failed.
I wonder about creating a horcrux. In creating a horcrux, you split yourself into two parts of soul. So you conceal half of soul. Then you have half a soul. Does the next horcrux divide you into 2 quarters? The next 2 eighths? Does Voldemort end up being 1/128 of a soul?
Well, I think ideally you'd try to split of as small a piece as possible, if you get the same benefit from having a millionth of your soul as a half in a Horcrux, you should make one with a millionth. Of course there's no details about how much control someone has over the soul splitting process, though if the splitting is somewhat random you could keep killing people until it splits in such a way that would allow you to only put a tiny piece in a Horcrus.
I dunno I mean Tom commanding the basilisk to kill seems like it would work to split his soul. Sure he did not use his wand or a dagger but he could have commanded the basilisk which would make more sense.
Couldn't it also be the case that Voldemort created the diary to only contain information about the chamber of secrets first and much later he turned it into a Horcrux. We dont know for sure that Voldemort used Myrtles Death for the hokrux, right? After All he later had no more use for the diary because he thought he would live forever and at that point it was a powerfull magical object that showed that he is the heir of slytherin.
Voldemort has been defeated more times than I can count by magic he doesn't understand (Harry's survival, making Harry a horcrux, burning Quirrrel, finite incantatem, Love when he tries to possess Harry, golden flames, not being the true master of the elder wand, and probably mor I can't recall), but even concidering all that I find it unlikely he'd accidentally split his soul and make a horcrux by accident twice. I would assume a wizard of his caliber would learn after the first time.
I think it still goes down in a similar way. She doesn't actually contribute that much. Once Hermione figures out it's a basilisk, everything they need to know about it is on the paper from the library book. Myrtle would have still died in the bathroom 50 years prior, Aragog would still tell the same story.
Would be a sequal idea if the diary turned out to be something completely different than a horcrux and after the battle of hogwarts voldy actually had one horcrux left unknown to Harry so he could end up returning once more :D
Is there a time limit between splitting one’s soul and making a horcrux? Like, did Voldemort need to use his diary because he had virtually no time to find another artifact to use? I mean, there must have been SOMETHING significant in the Chamber of Secrets that he could have used, but maybe it would take too long to get there.
I don't think there's a time limit. After all, they say that the rips in the soul stays that way until the person experiences true remorse. So he could probably have actually split it up later into a piece that he wanted to transfer.
This brings more question to what had to be done to create a horcrux since none of the bodies of the riddles or myrtle were otherwise damaged/harmed etc. What was so horrific in their making? I'm so curious and also wonder if I really want to know lol
Basilisks don't kill people - Tom Riddle kills people! I thought the diary horcrux was brilliant, actually. A horcrux that would automatically continue his mission and create a new body for him to inhabit.
The think that always confused me was that Voldemort never thought of making the Basilisk a horcruxe because he made Nagini one but the Basilisk was already hidden. Sooo. Why not the Basilisk a horcruxe instead of the diary. Just my personal opinion. Love your videos.😁
I wonder if maybe he couldn't? Nagini is a human woman with a maledictus curse that caused her to permanently remain in snake form. So she doesn't count as an actual animal/creature. All the other horcruxes are objects or people (harry and nagini) maybe you can't make a beast a horcrux? But! If he could have, that would have been an amazing idea. 🔥🔥❤
I think the most shocking thing I learned in this video is that Myrtle has a last name 😧 all this time and I never knew her as anything but Myrtle or Moaning Myrtle. Does the name Warren even appear in the books?
Oh man. If Myrtle's death takes place after Tom talks to Slughorn, he may be testing to see if he really can separate his soul into more than 2 fragments.
He could have made all of them diaries. Give one each to followers. Have them read it and open up to it, taken their bodies, and came back as his younger self everytime he was killed.
He hated the idea of relying on others unless he absolutely had to, hence not using the Elixir of Life from the Stone to stay immortal and instead making horcruxes. Diary was meant as a weapon so it was relatively expendable and he never revealed that it was a horcrux to Malfoy.
Do horcruxes have to be made immediately after the murder? Tom always hated his father. Couldn’t he have gone to kill him before learning about horcruxes? Then after he leaned about them he took Myrtle’s death as an opportunity to test out this new magic. Then, once he saw that it worked couldn’t he have gone and put the second split piece of his soul in the ring? Making the diary first and the ring second?
What object do you think he was going to make into a Horcrux instead of the diary, since your view requires that he makes a horcrux with this death, instead of just not making one.
I have no idea if he planned to make another horcrux, but I think that Voldemort was going to hedge his bets an planned to kill Neville as well as Harry. Call it the Herod approach, but I don't think that he wanted any threads left aside...
i really never thought salizair was evil extreme anti muggle yes and the theory that the basilex was instructed not to kill might prove that in was a last line defense of the castle being attacked
Considering the poor kill percentage of the basilisk, as pointed out in this video. Are we 100% sure that it was the basilisk that killed Myrtle? From her testimony, it would make sense since she said she saw the eyes. However, as pointed out on ttgd, it does seem kinda strange that the lense of a camera would make the stare non-lethal, but Myrtle's glasses wouldn't? Plus also as has been pointed out, Voldemort 'killing' by command doesn't fit the usual requirement for creating a horcrux. So is it possible, and maybe even likely that Myrtle was petrified by the basilisk, and was then killed by Tom, but she wouldn't no the difference because she had been petrified?
Through the griffin door chamber of secrets, chapter 17 was released a few hours ago but when I finished my work and opened Spotify to start listening it wasn't there but I swear I've seen it. Is it because it's too early? It's not the first time something like this happens. I got baited 😭
This video confuses me a little, so I looked it up and got different answers. Have I got this right? Tom kills Myrtle and makes the diary a horcrux. He then goes after the ring. Once he gets the ring, he waits to kill his dad and turn it until he finds out if he can even pull it off. When he gets what he wants out of Slughorn, he goes back to the place he got the ring, the Gaunt house. He then tracks down and kills Tom Sr and frames his uncle for it. Have I got that right?
6:28 correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the diary horcrux created before the ring? my understanding is that the horcruxes were destroyed in the order of their creation.
My line of thinking is that Tom unintentionally made his diary into a horcrux (much like how he unintentionally made Harry into a horcrux), than began to look in to the subject (question Slughorn) and then "experiment" with the ring with making multiple horcruxes.
My counter-argument is that the diary is an obvious recepticle for the soul, because he's already put so much of himself into it. Most of his horcruxes are defensive and heavily defended, because he dreads death so much, but he also craves power, and that's why I think the diary and Nagini emerged as they did. They're manifesting his desire to exert his power over others.
A. When did moaning mertal become a ghost, like was it the next day and she could tell them about her death. Was her account along with Tom Riddles' accusation? B. Didn't lucius give ginny the diary, and in the graveyard Lucius told voldeamort he had not heard even a whisper of voldamorts whereabouts. So I'm assuming voldamort didn't tell lucius to give the diary to someone. Unless it was the diary voldamort that told him too. And lucius didn't want to tell voldamort he got it destroyed. C. It's meant to be in someone's hand, but isn't it supposed to end up in the chamber of secrets. Pretty safe location maybe. D. Maybe he tried to add to make better the ritual to make a horcrux. Maybe he got interrupted because it wasn't planned out like the others. So it was incomplete, not worth hidding, and saw a different opportunity for it.
The diary was the best protected. Malfoy, if Voldemort had properly instructed him, would have protected the diary with his life and could have hidden the diary where it would have been impossible to find. The diary was the only horcrux that was not discovered by Harry or Dumbledore. There would have been no way to find it other than with Malfoy showing it to the world.
Makes sense why Voldemort is so angered by Lucius' failure at the Dep of Mysteries. Planning the death of a pure blood boy who's the son of one of his top death eater with influence in ministry affairs, with a year long waiting period, is overkill for only one failure. Makes more sense (even though he's a psychopath) as punishment for failing at two really important missions.
@@diyalectic52 seriously! Malfoy lost him a piece of his SOUL and then the one thing he wanted more then anything (besides killing Harry and immortality) 😂😂😂 malfoy was lucky to be alive.
Myrtle is the real chosen one. If Voldemort didn't kill her and create the Diary, the chain of events in book 2 won't happen. If she wasn't crying in the bathroom, they wouldn't have realised she was the one killed by the Basilisk. If she didn't tell Harry to put the egg in the water in book 4, he wouldn't have figured the clue out.
Eh. Idk. Cedric tipped him off first. I think if the horcrux isn't created in book 2 it would definitely change the order in which things play out, but usually it all comes together so that everything which would have happened always happens. It's an ongoing theme.
Interesting I like it. I have a video suggestion please- How did Lily Evans used magic outside of school without being caught? Or at least this is what Petunia tell us in the first book, during the meeting with Hagrid when she expresses her jealousy of Lily. The question is- Should we believe Petunia or was she lying? If she did say the truth Lily used transfiguration magic outside of school. There is supposed to be a trace on under age magic.
Could the diary actually have belonged to Myrtle, and after Tom's soul entered it, it changed the name on the cover to his (or could he have just changed it to his own name manually with a spell)? Being muggle born, having a dairy from a muggle shop would not be abnormal. If killing her was a mistake, then maybe Tom used one of her own items for the horcrux both because he had no "trophy" on him at the time, and also because he would consider her possessions as unimportant as her and that particular horcrux itself.
It seems like Voldemort asked Malloy to keep the diary which would have been a good place for it for a while since Draco was at school. He only tossed it to Ginny to get it out of his house for the raids.
I’m not sure this theory holds up. Here are my points: - The Tom Riddle inside the diary has memories from _after_ the Horcrux was, according to your theory, created. Otherwise, Harry shouldn’t have been able to see the memory of Dippet and of confronting Hagrid. - The Horcrux needs to be created after a murder that ripped your soul. I’m not sure Myrtle more or less stumbling across the Basilisk qualifies. - I always thought you’d somehow have to prepare for capturing the soul you just ripped. Alternative theory: - Voldemort wanted his side of the story told. - In the summer holiday _after_ all this happened he bought the diary in London and prepared it with the memory. - Then he made it a Horcrux. Although while writing it out he might just as well have put the enchantments for the memory on top of the Horcrux later.
The instance of the Basilisk killing Myrtle and Riddle getting to make a Horcrux tells you that if you ordered someone under your control completely to kill someone, you get to use that death to make a Horcrux. So, if Voldemort put someone under the Imperius Curse and ordered them to kill a person, could he use this instance to make a Horcrux?
Now that just calls for a What if with a potentially bad ending, What if Moaning Myrtle hadn't happened to witness Tom Riddle bringing forth the Basilisk that one time?
I paused after the intro to write this I always thought of it as him making his own magical item like the great witches and wizards items as to put himself on their level , then twist and taint them all to show he surpassed them ,and then go further to use a living being to show his mastery over life to gain the status of master of death .

How did an ordinary muggle diary have the disappearing ink & magical power? The piece of sole inside or a cast spell? 😮

Killing a muggle born at Hogwarts and getting away with it probably made him think it was significant
Doubtful. Voldemort is exceedingly arrogant. It probably never crossed his mind as a possibility that he would get caught. Also, it's not the same kind of significance. All the other horcruxes were made with relics and very meaningful deaths. Not a rando in the girls bathroom. Lol.

Murder to rip the soul.

The diary may have been his plan to take over the school trojan horse style (similar to Grindelwald hoping his obscurial would kill Dumbledore).

The plain and simple "She was an idiot" got me😂😂
My theory is that making a horcrux is more than just murder.
He had nowhere else to go... students aren't allowed to stay at Hogwarts over the summer. It's literally that simple. He even says it himself.
He may have documented the event into the diary, it can learn new information.
@@kiminimuchu__ what you're saying makes exactly zero sense.
I have to agree. It might have been accidentally made but after that.

Not just his ego, although, yeah. But his narcissistic, sadistic nature made that literally impossible. As Dumbledore mentions in half blood prince. This brings up an interesting question, does the horcrox need to be made immediately after the killing or can you wait to make it?
Horcrux requires a very specific ritual, and even the slightest mess up can destroy your soul out right or even trap your entire soul in an object
He'd probably just have someone else kill Harry and Neville. No story.
Voldemort might have decided to wait until Harry and Neville were older or have someone else hunt them down.
@@kaylapounds1359Legit
Voldemort was dead-set throughout the entire story that he must be the one to kill the child in the prophecy, and I don't think that would change much if he knew everything. It seems to me that he would ignore the details warning that an attempt to kill him would backfire. I actually don't think much would be different from the actual story.
With that said, it's possible he wouldn't have gone to the Potters alone, but would have taken a few of his best Death Eaters to be his backup.
Nagini was used/told/controlled by Voldemort to kill an "old muggle man" and was then turned into a horcrux.
Well… Harry was also a horcrux he never intended to make. At least with the diary he intentionally made it a horcrux, even if it was unplanned.
@SuperCarlinBrothers Since he knew he could with Nagini, why didn't Tom make the Basilisk a Horcrux?
Nagini is a human with a maledictus curse forcing her to remain in snake form. My best guess would be that you can't make beasts/creatures into a horcrux. All the other horcruxes are objects or human. But! If he could have made the basilisk a horcrux, it would have been an awesome idea ! 🔥🔥❤
I thought he used Frank Bryce's death to make Nagini a horcrux before he returned because he was 1 short and was working on his return. He didnt know the diary was destroyed until after he returned and found out from Lucius it was gone.
Bertha Jenkins was used, Nagini was already Horcrux hince Harry seeing that scene from her point of view...
The diary was lifted from the Denem mansion. It was belonging to TD senior.
@@calvinwright2214
Since Harry actually sees the events (and is not just told about them), I imagine Riddle used more than mere writing to place them in the diary.
⚠️Off topic from video, day one of asking ⚠️
There are three what ifs I think need to be done.
That would obviously be there for a school like Hogwarts, probably why there's no pregnancies, in a co-ed school that's so easy to sneak around at night in, too😂
I would imagine a contraceptive potion or spell exists. That probably isn't in the books because it's not important to the story.

How did myrtle die if she saw the basilisk through her glasses
@@justicefool3942 Wait I thought Kreacher was already there with him, feeding him the potion like Harry did with Dumbledore. Dang it I need to read that chapter again.
@@Boundwithflame23you’re correct. Kretcher was there already. He’s the one who took Reg there
I like to think the mark they take could be a beacon for Voldemort to find them plus compulsions to obey him he was very cunning in the beginning.
The diary was the first horcrux. The video is wrong.
I was literally just thinking earlier today that I wanted a new HP theory vid
You guys are the best!
i think in voldemort's mind, killing murtle was significant because he was doing what salazar slytherin had wished for. getting rid of the muggleborn in hogwarts. and voldemort loved hogwarts or something close to love since he cannot love
Voldemort deciding to make a horcrux in the first place was definitely a mistake
Seriously you know how long wizards are known to live and this f***** died in his 60s because he was so obsessed with not dying
He should have just turned into a vampire xD
Btw love the team rocket shirt
He made loads of mistakes really. He thought he was better than everyone else, and his shear arrogance showed that. The only reason he was good/skilled at magical elements was because of his Lich methods. He created dark objects to immortalise him, which gave him a whole bunch of power he never had before. He relied on that alone, and it became his downfall. He didn't think anyone would challenge him, or discover his secret.
well, maybe it was hidden. perhaps he had asked Lucius to place it in his vault. but Lucius gave it away without being ordered to do so
as for the memory it showed, this was more than just Tom's soul being in there, but, like a pensive, he also placed a memory in it.
Now we know why he gave it to Lucious Goldie locks
I wonder about creating a horcrux.
In creating a horcrux, you split yourself into two parts of soul. So you conceal half of soul. Then you have half a soul. Does the next horcrux divide you into 2 quarters? The next 2 eighths? Does Voldemort end up being 1/128 of a soul?
Excuse me, 1/256 soul. 2^8
I would assume a wizard of his caliber would learn after the first time.
theory idea: What would have happened if Myrtle hadn't become a ghost.
I think it still goes down in a similar way. She doesn't actually contribute that much. Once Hermione figures out it's a basilisk, everything they need to know about it is on the paper from the library book. Myrtle would have still died in the bathroom 50 years prior, Aragog would still tell the same story.
@@UnfazedPhoenix that is true, but how would they have found the entrance?
So nothing to do with the video but I've been wondering something about Hagrid: how does he not form an obscurus if he doesn't do magic?
I'm pretty sure the Diary is actually the first Horcrux he creates, and the sources on google seem to confirm that.
Where did you guys learn that he made the ring first?
@@UnfazedPhoenix Good point. Thank you for you opinion. It really helped😁.
I think the most shocking thing I learned in this video is that Myrtle has a last name 😧 all this time and I never knew her as anything but Myrtle or Moaning Myrtle. Does the name Warren even appear in the books?
Yes. It does.
Her full name is Myrtle Elizabeth Warren, if you were wondering.
Is the stone in the ring the horcrux, or could it just be the band? Could the other 2 hallows be a horcrux?

😂 Malfoy really screwed that one up. Surprised he made it out alive through Voldemort's return in book 4 after that.
No.
That's not the the only time he did that he used Nagini to kill Serverus Snape.
It seems like Voldemort asked Malloy to keep the diary which would have been a good place for it for a while since Draco was at school. He only tossed it to Ginny to get it out of his house for the raids.
I’m not sure this theory holds up. Here are my points:
- The Tom Riddle inside the diary has memories from _after_ the Horcrux was, according to your theory, created.
Alternative theory:
- Voldemort wanted his side of the story told.
