They did that to the last comment I left on one of your videos and this one, so I report those comments. Hello, Flandrew! I recently found a pretty interesting thing - Goblet of Fire fan game, made in 2004-2005. Sadly, there's no download link, but here's the video of it: m.th-cam.com/video/4IjSzzDn4zk/w-d-xo.html
What do you think of it? This, beside graphics, looks very well-done.

I was thinking about Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. It came out in 2007 and similar to The Force Unleashed had three different versions on seven platforms: the flagship version on PS3/360, a Wii version ported to PC, PS2 and PSP, and a DS version. The Wii version had extras like poker, pirate dice, or replaying any level as other characters you unlocked like Davy Jones or the Pirate Lords

I played this one in the Wii, and I must say that I think you're completely right about the gestures being designed with the Wii in mind. I remember this being my favourite Harry Potter game just because it actually was an open World with NPCs around. The fact that the story and missions are lacking was a secondary issue, because as a former HP fan, all I wanted was a game where I could go around Hogwarts and discover stuff. The Wii controls made the magic really immersive.
Of course it lacked a lot, but overall it was good enough, and that "Hogwarts experience" is what made it so satisfying for me.
And my guess is that this is what has developed into the new Hogwarts game that is coming.

I played the PS3 version, which also had motion controls (optionally, default was with the right stick). And although it didn't have a wand controller like the Wii, I think there too the spellcasting is more reliable with the motion controls than with the stick, albeit slower. Trying to move things around with wingardium leviosa with motion controls is pretty crappy though, you have barely any control, so there you pretty much have to use the stick.

Played the PC version as a kid.
Because I played with the Mouse Gestures turned off (that is an option, though many don't know about it) - moving with the Arrow Keys, casting spells with WASD - it actually wasn't hard at all to cast spells.
At the time, I really loved exploring Hogwarts, and just that fact alone made me really fall in love with it. Replayed it a bunch of times.
Having replayed it recently though, and it's just not that fun.
Sure, we can explore Hogwarts, but it's not really that interesting looking, there's nothing meaningful to find, other than the "discovery points" system.
(Though I will say, the two "recruit DA members" parts actually helped, because the non-liniarity improved the game's exploration. I was really disappointed by the way Half-Blood Prince was crazy short, and only had one quest at a time - the steamroller through the story didn't give me time or motivation to explore the castle).
I'm really hoping that Hogwarts Legacy makes exploring the castle much more interesting and rewarding.

Order of the phoenix was the last HP movie tie in game I played. I never touched HBP nor the two deathly hallows ones. I remember being constantly lost, following footsteps, doing inane ball and wizard card mini games over and over, and basically dropping the game during the first batch of “collect all the DA students” miniquests.
I kind of appreciate that it’s a playable 3D Hogwarts, but 5 onwards never was my favorite movie depiction of the castle. Now if I had gotten to explore hogwarts from philosopher stone or chamber of secrets, I would’ve been all the heck over it. Sadly, OOTP just reproduces the exact same problem as the movie of having a downright disgusting choice of color composition… the quality of the games really waned as the quality of the movies did.

But then I tried to pick up the game again in 2022, and, since the scale isn't all that impressive anymore, it didn't have a lot going for it. And if I recall correctly there are battles that you can lose in the console version but you have to win in PSP version to progress, for example when Umbridge finds the room of requirements.

The Goblet of Fire game was so bad I gave up on Harry Potter games, so I never played this one. From how you describe it, I think the game needed a system like Canis Canem Edit where you has classes to go to, and then in-between that you have story missions, and then some free time for side quests. Order of the Phoenix just seems like _nothing but_ side quests 😅

You know what's really annoying? That you can't sort the names of the DA members by how close they are to your current location. Then you could sweep across the castle a bit at a time, in a much more methodical manner!

So far I've played the PS2 and PC versions. They are basically the same, but in terms of graphics the PC version is far superior and it's amazing how detailed Hogwarts is if you take into account how old this game is. After watching your video I think I might play the PSP version to see what are the differences 😁

One of the few channels where I do not skip the mid-video ads. Don't know if it makes any difference at all, but I really enjoy the effort in these niche videos. These games rarely get a lot of "serious" exposure on YT. Also very much enjoyed the interviews.

The series (game adaptations) peaked at Prisioner of Azakaban IMO (specially since all it's versions were winners). this game and Goblet were the lowpoints (arguably) and while Half-blood is good it doesn't match Chamber or Prisioner. And then there's Deathly Hollows which actually may be the lowpoint.

7:21 that was the portrait of sirius' mother. That was one of the biggest thorns in the order's side during their stay at number 12 grimmauld place in the book. If they woke her up she would start screaming about mudbloods and blood traitors defiling her house. They were unable to remove her portrait because of enchantments, so they just had to be quiet around her

GBA version was the one I played as a kid. I would often get stuck not knowing what to do even when I got a little older and able to read the dialog better. It was a big guessing game for me. I liked the potions mini game a lot, however.
I've owned two gameboy games ever, and this is one of them. The other was also very much a guessing game for me.

Must keep in mind that this is a point of view from today's perspective ^^'
I remember playing it on PS2 and I was absolutely amazed by the quality (yeah PS2, I admitt they could have done better for PS3 ^^') and the fidelity of Hogwarts and the possibility of exploring it freely was just awesome, the spells and fights mechanics were so cool according to me (I think you overdid it a lot on the begining xD. Though if you don't have an official controller with the full captors it can be difficult yeah). I passed tens of hours checking everywhere, finding the passwords, and even the game finished I loved going explore everything again

If Hogwarts Legacy was like, this game but with those graphics, I would have actually loved it...
    I loved going to class in this game, and the fact that you had to do the spells yourself! But instead of going to class and exploring Hogwarts, we get this weird RPG and some odd storyline... Honestly, I understand why people like it, but I really wish I could have just been a student and had a semi-mundane life at Hogwarts... And that classes weren't just 'press button to start class', 'hooray, you've completed the class'. If you had to mix and brew potions by yourself like you do here, but then ALSO had the entire rest of the world like in HL, that would have been such a great game.. ;-;

1:13 The "trace", that is, the spell that is placed on magical children the first time they visit school (without them noticing, of course) to detect usage of magic, can only detect whether magic has been performed in a small area around that child. That means that anyone performing magic in the vicinity of that child also triggers the trace. Therefore, children that have a magical parent are expected to be supervised by them. It is safe to assume that some children had some freedoms given by their parents on the usage of magic at home during holidays.
However, that is entirely different for children that live with muggles. If the trace is triggered it was almost certainly done so by the child which is why Harry got expelled so quickly.
This also means that Harry, whilst being at Grimmauld Place, could've used his magic freely as the ministry would've had to assume that it was another wizard or witch who triggered the trace. Same goes for The Burrow.
This is also why Hermione was able to fix Harry's glasses in The Chamber of Secrets in Diagon Alley without consequences.

Just want to say, I actually really liked that game as a kid (on PC, which is the same version as the PS3)
It's slow, but I'm patient, and I'm the kind of guy who plays spellcasters on TTRPGs for the exact same reason I liked this game. I always liked the usefulness of magic in the everyday life, and ... well this game gives it to me. (Obviously that's all it gives, that and Hogwarts in open world)
