As a Jamaican, I am disappointed in the Jamaicans who claim that there are no iguanas in Jamaica. Jamaica has its own species of iguanas that live mainly in the Hellshire Hills. They were once thought to be extinct (at least I was taught that in Primary school) but, some were found in 1990 and they are being propogated and will be released on goat Island. I am shocked that this is not being taught in schools. Yes, there are iguanas in Jamaica but they are not part of our diet.

I'm a 70 year old Jamaican and never knew that Jamaica had its own specie of iguana until I Googled it just now. And I graduated right through to UWI, so don't be surprised if other people voice the same ignorance.
@@user-sj2ns8fk6jI am 60 years old, went to primary school in the 60s-70s and was taught that there were iguanas in Jamaica and that they were part of the diet of the Arawak Indians. We were also taught that they were extinct. Yes, I learned that in probably grade three at Spring Garden Primary School in St. Thomas. That any University graduate is ignorant of that fact says a lot about our educational system. I don't see how anybody who was taught the history of the Arawak Indians in Jamaica would not have encountered anything about Iguanas in Jamaica!

@@gennisparry4352 We don't have them in Haiti either, but from what I've learned from watching Iguana Man(his channel is on TH-cam, & his family is Trinidadian) - they can bite! They've become invasive in Florida, so he & his friends catch them. They also eat them & supposedly they taste like chicken!
I wouldn't have a problem with eating them personally, as they eat mainly fruits & veggies. I think they also eat things like bread & maybe bugs? 🤔 But even the chickens we eat, also eat those sooooo.....
They're causing a lot of damage in FL right now and I have a feeling more people will be hunting & eating them as word spreads.

Iguanas should be preserved and not be exterminated. They must be treated as endangered, only to be caught for sport and carefully released like fish. Live ones can be sold to other islands as exocytic pets. The same goes for the Coney and the Agouti. Revive the population in Jamaica for God's sake man.
