Adrien Grotte is supposed to be a top Muay Thai in America, but many people asked why he never launch a single kick in the fight with Yi Long ? The reason I think is because he himself realized that his own muscle on the upper part of his body is too bulky. In Physical term, he is in unstable equilibrium state. He would be in high risk to lose balance and easily to be toppled by Yi Long. He was surely having a good preparation before the fight that is why he sent his disciple to fight with Yi Long first so as to test Yi Long`s potential and latest skill. He should have run through the video that Yi Long vs Young Jin-meng (the Korea national plus world TKD multi-champion). Young had boasted that TKD kicks are the best kicks of the world before the fight but as a result or outcome : the more he kicked the more he fell !!! Usually it is much easier to detect middle/high kicks of an opponent by observing the movement of his shoulders but rather difficult to detect the coming punches. Have you seen that Yi Long could handle the timing very accurately as Adrien Grotte punched forward with full power ? At that very moment Yi Long used low sweep on Adrien`s knee to make him fall !
I guess I was just slightly disappointed that Yi Long let Grotte go on the offensive for most of the fight; I was expecting Yi Long to be more aggressive (like he was in his previous fights) and demonstrate the speed and power of his punches that came with his traditional Shaolin training. Nevertheless, great job to Yi Long for finishing the fight so early. He may have intentionally let Grotte go on the offensive so that he can catch Grotte with his guard down, which he did with that spinning backfist (which was effective even though it wasn't a very clean hit); Grotte has great defense and almost always has his guard up, just like Kraus.
Adrien Grotte was TKOed by Yi Long due to two critical attacks according to my personal observation. Firstly, Yi Long used iron-headbutt to side-hit Adrien Grotte`s left ear/chin in their clinch. This attack would cause giddiness or humming in the ear for a couple of minutes. After the side-hit, Adrien Grotte knew that he could not sustain his fitness any longer, so he tried to attack faster before his last breathe. As he chased after Yi Long in a rush, Yi Long suddenly turned back and gave him a whip or torque punch on Adrien`s neck then knocked him down. This heavy whip or turning punch on the main artery of the neck could cause a pause of the blood circulation for half a second. Even he struggled to stand up again, but already fated to be TKOed !!!
KO of Adrien Grotte started with a left knee from Yi Long 6:01 , then a left kick 6:03 was the fatal blow, not the punch that came after it. That was a good follow up combination. Adrien Grotte's trouble really started at 5:20 when Yi Long's right elbow did a beautiful around-the-back hit on Adrien. Having said that, Yi Long made many mistakes from the beginning of this fight, his footwork and body positions were messy, often got caught in attacks. His punches had no effect on Adrien because they weren't powerful due to the Shaolin straight punching style, this has to improve to a more modern scientific punching method. Other than the three effective hits on Adrien, this time Yi's performance was actually not as good as his previous few fights. If Yi's fever was true then he really gets a good credit for this fight then.
Yup. If we take out those few effective hits Yi Long had, Grotte would have won that round by decision for sure, because Yi Long is way behind on points. Not a completely satisfying win.
htrland You didn't mention the fact that Adrien was knocked down on floor 3 times in that round! The first time was when he got kicked on inside of his leg. Second time was he got hit by Yi's elbow, then the final KO. When a KO occurs, all the points don't matter anymore. Many greatest fights in MMA or boxing were won by unexpected KO, not by points. The KO in this fight was totally professional and a textbook classic, that was what should be seen more in MMA fights. Having said that, I still hope Yi Long can study more about improving his defence and power punches/kicks, the way he is using them now is not most effective. Fight science has improved so much since about 200 years ago when Shaolin stopped updating their fight techniques.
futurevideo10 Fair enough. I didn't question Yi Long's knockout win, merely that Grotte caught him almost every time he left an opening, which was very often. It seems like he repeated his mistakes in his last fight with Grotte, though Yi Long clearly has a much stronger chin now.
htrland If you count the number of Yi Long's hits on Adrien Grotte, his number was not too bad either, it's just that Yi's punches and kicks didn't do much harm to Adrien because of the straight punching and kicking, this is an old ancient Shaolin technique needs to be updated. Adrien can take hits, but that elbow, knee and kick got him badly.
xinyiquan666 That kick to Adrien's inside leg was beautiful, knock him down to the floor. Then the knee and followed up with a kick 2 seconds later was very effective. But I still think it was Adrien's problem more than Yi's performance. Hope there will be a rematch again for the two fighters when both are in their best health condition. I truly want to see how Yi Long handles Adrien in the best ways he can.
yi long lost the others fight cause he was unprepared..and Adrian was in his plenty good shape..also he es little tall and more arm muscle .. This time Yi long fought different ..different strategy...
Yesterday I woke up so early to watch it live on the internet. The whole show is the most intense one I have ever seen with many memorable moments especially how Yi Long reacted when he got the award. I almost cried for him. Andrien has powerful punch but doesn't any kick and obvious doesn't know how to defend against Yi Long low sweep (though it is amazing to see that most of the time he can maintain his balance after Yi Long's well know, devastating low kick). Yi Long is surely above Andrien overall. About the 2010 fight, Yi Long got KO was also questionable as Yi Long was able to stand up after a few seconds and appeared to be alright but somehow the referee just assumed that he couldn't fight anymore and stopped the fight.
Fuckin referees. The same things happened to me once in a Tent fight against a Pro Boxer at an event called May Day held every year. I was 19 and he was 25. I think he was Pro or a really good Amateur that was going to go Pro soon. Sometime in the second round the ref assumed I couldn't continue even though I was insisting I can keep going. Just a little blood near my right eye. They don't understand a fighters heart or spirit, they just understand safety. Pfft I've seen a boxer that had his ass kicked for 2 or 3 rounds and was bleeding a lot, then he got one good hook and knocked out the other guy. If he can do that then who knows what I could of done too. Our match was much closer than that one I watched on TV. I lost to the ref, not the boxer.
I think you have no martial background at all ! If your opponent want to attack or charge you, he has to step forward, this very moment is the best chance to do the low-sweep on his front leg to make him fall. Actually if the low-sweep is on the knee, the knee could be fractured instantly no matter how strong your opponent is !!!
This fight was actually quite sloppy. Both of them were just swinging for the fences and none of them used any proper boxing. Yi Long didn't use any of his usual boxing skills, no jab or counter right hand at all.
狮城黄师傅评 :Yi Long had a very good preparation for this rematch. He upgraded his endurance chi-gong from iron-shirt to golden-bell. He knocked his forehead on the tree to testify the resistance of impact. That is why he exchanged heavy punches with Adrien without guarding his head. This is a risky act because there are 3 death-points (死穴)on our body which could not be protected from the external impacts by chi-gong, namely eyes, nose and nuts ! Actually he could KO Adrien faster and saver by using a tai-chi movement, namely " 弯弓射虎 ( shoot the arrow from the bow up hill to hunt the tiger) " which had been used by Fang Bian to KO Simon Marcus in Jan, 2015. with a single punch ! After the rematch I did recommend Yi Long to use this movement to encounter heavy straight punch. But he tried this risky act again to let the New Zealand kick-boxer to punch his head several times. 奈何? Months ago, I did elaborate the application of the tai-chi movement : " 弯弓射虎“ on the net in Chinese. After the fight : Fang Bian vs Simon Marcus, 2015. I elaborated again more in detail in English in web-side : " Tai-chi vs white crane " in the reply to John B(now you could watch this movement in my video displayed on website : Wong Hohn Khew.com). Hopefully I would rectify the wrong concept that " Tai-chi is for morning exercise and could not be applied in combat !!! "
becuz nowadays its not the fighting style,...its the fighter n his technique in any fight situation lets face it...one style not going to best everything out there.
Although Grotte isn't a well known fighter, I'm sure he can defeat many of the big names in Muay Thai. He's got very accurate and powerful punches (I lost count of how many times he nailed Yi Long with punches that would have KO'd most fighters), and he can really take hits. I'm surprised he was still able to seriously challenge Yi Long after he got rocked by that spinning backfist.
xinyiquan666 Adrien Grotte's body looks so much stronger and bigger than Yi Long's, but they both weighted same!!! Maybe someone made an error on their weights? I place the problem on Adrien because he lacked speed and mobility, he was like an old man just got up from bed! The way Yi Long KO Adrien was really decent, despite that his overall performance wasn't as good as his previous few fights, like in the fight he defeated Cyprus Washington, his performance was far much better than in this one.
Actually wasn't Yi's back fist, it was his right forearm near elbow area, not exactly the elbow. Watch the hit frame by frame, the hit wasn't that powerful, not fully intentionally executed, shouldn't able to knock Adrien down like that, but it did, it showed Adrien's weak qi condition. Adrien had strength, but his qi wasn't that good in this fight. If Yi really was suffering a high temperature fever, it could be cause of his sloppy performance.
First round was a brawl, where either man could have been knocked out. Adrien did nail Yi Long with a few good hard punches that made him bounce off the ropes and once instance which dazed him as well. Adrien also proved it wasn't a fluke that he knocked out Yi Long in the first fight. Adrien, also showed everyone how to beat Yi Long as well. Its likely there will be a third fight. This reminds me of the fights between Coban and Ramon Dekkers (RIP). They had 4 fights, with both of them knocking each other 2x. That all said Yi Long is proving that he can stand toe-to-toe with some of Muay-Thai's best. But I am interested to see if Yi Long can stand toe-to-toe with a Level 10 Lumpinee fighter, which is doubtful. I still don't think Yi Long will take Buakaw, whether that fight happens or not.
Oh btw... Before I get flamed about my comment about Buakaw winning over Yi Long. Its unlikely that Buakaw would take a Level 10 Lumpinee fighter either, not today anyways, like he did in 2002. Buakaw is fighting easier opponents for more money now. Buakaw has a big international name and thats all he needs. There is no need for him to fight in Lumpinee anymore. He is coming to the end of his career, so he needs to make money, or retire broke. The guy to beat is Yodsanklai Fairtex. /watch?v=Zo7VND0vOxA Yod, would beat both Buakaw and Yi Long in the same week if not day.
xinyiquan666 I agree Yi Long is not the best sanda fighter from China. He's also not at Shi Yanzi's level in Shaolin skills. However, he does seem to be the most popular fighter in China, no?
The reason Yi Long lost the 2010 fight with Adrien Grotte because Yi was inexperienced, I think it was his first pro fight and first fight outside China. Kung Fu philosophy has the disadvantage in real fights and competitions, it never initiates a fight, always be the defence not the offence, try not to hurt your opponent but do it only when necessary, this defensive mentality is a great disadvantage for Kung Fu practitioners. We often see Kung Fu "experts" get KO in real fights and competitions against MMA and experienced fighters. Yi Long is really not that aggressive and offensive, at least not as much as non-Chinese fighters, but he is much better than the average Sanda/Shansou Chinese fighters. His background in Shaolin Buddhist Kung Fu, Qigong and "Iron Body" training help him a great deal in his fighting abilities. I predict Yi Long will keep improving, while Muay Thai fighters will not catch up with him, eventually Yi Long will beat down the very best Muay Thai fighter or any stand-up fighter in the world. UFC style fighting is another matter, it's quite a different fighting than stand-up fights. UFC far more violent and real, and ground fight can be very risky and dangerous. Shaolin Kung Fu doesn't specialize in ground fight technqiues, it does have a few but not enough to take UFC challenges yet.
you obviously don't know what your talking about, there are many styles of kungfu mainly for going on the offence and squashing your opponent so they are dead or can't fight back. Just check up Sansoo or the many other hundreds of styles like it. Shaolin has ground fighting also and its proven to be just as lethal as Brazillian Jujitsu, they also have Devil's hand style (joint breaking, pressure point style). So before you speak, check your facts or your gonna sound ignorant. And if you think Shaolin straight fist can't be powerful when executed correctly, check up any videos on Shi Dejian or Wu Nanfang's disciples sparring. They beat a well known professional MMA fighter from hong kong and he didn't even have a chance at striking back. But anyways, your entitled to "your facts" just as I am to mine.
futurevideo10 Dude, I do San Soo, Shaolin kungfu, and Sanda, why do you think your a know it all? And for your info, their entirely different things. Just because they read the same in Chinese doesn't mean its the same, Just like the number 4 in Chinese which also means die. Do a web search of the difference and you will see. Sansoo is related to Choy Lee Fut kungfu and in Chinese just means free fighting, just like San Shou. San Soo was originated in the Quan Yi Monastery , San Shou is invented much later and their are three versions of it instead, which are all shitty water down versions of Kungfu. See for yourself if you can distinguish and have a good day
nicholas liu "number 4 in Chinese which also means die"? Really, the Chinese writing for "number 4" is not same as the Chinese writing for "die", they only sound similarly phonetic, but the writings are entirely different. The Chinese writing for Sansoo and Sanshou are exactly same. If this Chinese word is written after the Kung Fu style name then it belongs to that Kung Fu style, it may be "free form" but it still belongs under that style. There's no reason to write "sansoo" or "sanshou" connected to a style when it's truly free form. Free forms are independent that's why they're called "free forms".
Kick boxing is obviously not that popular in America compared to mixed martial arts, that's why you can't have really good US fighters. And about the weight class, i don't care about it, the point is to find the best/most fierce bare hand fighter (without hitting vital organs)
黄汉桥评 :We could find so many kick-boxing champions in US and you said kick-boxing is not popular in US , Is it logical ? You said you don`t care about the weight class as if you are the organizer.
i hate the chinese movie props...they look like going into a buffet...and cheesy announcing is pure movie but not good for sport fighting...if u tell me....i don't like overly praising one fighter vs another....cmon so overrated and backward.

Not heat butt, or anything, Yilong is creative fighter, just like Anderson Silva, and that why he able to defeated Adrien Grotte.
Not heat butt, but iron-headbutt !
I think Yi Long is FUNNY in the ring (people adore him for his original posing and gestures), yet he is a DEADLY VIPER crying for a real challenge.

San Soo was originated in the Quan Yi Monastery , San Shou is invented much later and their are three versions of it instead, which are all shitty water down versions of Kungfu. See for yourself if you can distinguish and have a good day

"number 4 in Chinese which also means die"?
Really, the Chinese writing for "number 4" is not same as the Chinese writing for "die", they only sound similarly phonetic, but the writings are entirely different.
The Chinese writing for Sansoo and Sanshou are exactly same. If this Chinese word is written after the Kung Fu style name then it belongs to that Kung Fu style, it may be "free form" but it still belongs under that style.
There's no reason to write "sansoo" or "sanshou" connected to a style when it's truly free form. Free forms are independent that's why they're called "free forms".
God these guys are made of rock wtf lol
Kick boxing is obviously not that popular in America compared to mixed martial arts, that's why you can't have really good US fighters. And about the weight class, i don't care about it, the point is to find the best/most fierce bare hand fighter (without hitting vital organs)
黄汉桥评 :We could find so many kick-boxing champions in US and you said kick-boxing is not popular in US , Is it logical ? You said you don`t care about the weight class as if you are the organizer.
CAMPION SHOALIN WORLD GOOD BUDA YO LONG CHINA
Why are people watching this? Who are these guys? Watch some Glory, or old the K1 for real kickboxing. These are jokes.

i hate the chinese movie props...they look like going into a buffet...and cheesy announcing is pure movie but not good for sport fighting...if u tell me....i don't like overly praising one fighter vs another....cmon so overrated and backward.
if yilong is really good, ask him to fight at UFC. Cain Velasquez would smoke him in 1st round!
Yi Long would fucking destroy him by punches
Doing Man: trash talk, why don't u say to have fight in a sumo wrestling match?!

Whatever sports the americans not good at wouldn't become popular among them, for instances: soccer, table tennis and badminton.
