I’ve lived in Calgary my whole life but been to Thailand 4 times. I definitely will consider retiring in Northern Thailand when that time comes but until then Calgary is my home. Honestly I don’t mind winter in Calgary. I go skiing as much as possible and Banff is amazing in the winter and the crowds are less. Having Chinooks in Calgary gives you a break from the cold as well. My wife is from Regina and that is cold! Great video!
I loved Calgary when I lived there .. unfortunately got transferred to Edmonton. Calgary is a GREAT city and wonderful views of the mountains . loved it but went through 3 windshields because of stones on the expressways .. smile .. live in Thailand now and do not miss Canadian winters
Though we live in Canada, I've never been to Calgary. Your video made me change my mind about the Prairie Provinces. You guys are such a lovely couple!!
I got a scholarship and did my masters in Athens, Ohio in 1982. During the first winter we Thais 6 of us rent a van and drove from Ohio up to Michigan to Chicago and braved the snow and wintry wind with temperature dropping to -10C, then along to Washington state down to California, Texas which was surprising that it snowed that year, back up north along the way to Ohio for 3 weeks. I could not imagine living in winter in Calgary. Even a day in Chicago I nearly froze when we left the van briefly. Thailand is the best weather-wise.
As a Calgarian, I am not even subscribed to you but was recommended this video by the algorithm. Assuming it’s that Bill C-11 at play. I have always wanted to visit Thailand and based on that alone I am going to subscribe lol.
Hi Emmanuel, as a Calgarian, what would you tell people planning to immigrate to Calgary, especially international students, about the current situation?
Alberta Canada is a nice beautiful city. Calgary has some nice restaurants and the lakes and rivers are beautiful as well. Hope you both do a Vancouver tour as well. Flora and Note you both never disappoint. Much love to the both of you.
As a fellow Canadian (first nation) love Canada but there is a reason why 80% of Canadians live as far south as possible and still be in Canada. Winter is coming … every year 😂 Calgary is lovely. I thought Flora was from Vancouver? Much less extreme, weather wise. Enjoyed your tour of Calgary. Close to so many beautiful places. I was in Oil & Gas … 60 hours week was the norm so I know why you pulled the plug ; )
Calgary resident for almost 20 years here. I was a bit surprised at how desirable you were able to make Calgary look. The video doesn't show the real Calgary but I appreciate it nonetheless. The culture here has changed. There's no sense of community anymore. Everyone is out for themselves and the constant hustle to get by and survive is very really. The city isn't affordable. There's no housing and everything is very expensive. The homelessness, mental health and addiction issues are extremely bad right now. People want to get help but we don't have enough programs or detox beds to help everyone. It's such a shame that this one thriving city has fallen apart leaving its resident's to cope with the aftermath. There's certainly an appeal to live near the mountains but even a day trip away is too expensive for the average person, nevermind spending the night. We try to get out there as often as we can but the trips to the mountains are becoming less and less due to the expense. Truly love watching you both! Couple goals for sure. Your videos make me so happy and relaxed. Keep it up! Please make more! I'm always sad when I have to wait for a new video to come out.
As someone who grew up in okotoks with a dad working in calgary, i couldnt agree more. I find it hilarious that they decided to not talk about the housing crisis and the homlessness it has caused and how it has been making the opioid epidemic in calgary worse. Worst part is thats only the tip of the iceberg because (to be blunt) calgary is a white collar city that dngaf if you are poor or a blue collar working class individual, either you can afford or you cant; people can say theres resources but to be real the last time i talked with the sinneave foundation in calgary about helping me find affordable housing they had nothing and i wouldve been waiting for 6 months up to a year. Calgary is a withered husk of what it wants to be and it breaks my heart(update 24hr after post: i decided to check my reply from a computer im not signed into and youtube is hiding my reply to your comment lmfao)
Born and raised in Calgary & it started going downhill around 2012. With Instagram, Banff has become flooded with tourists making it expensive, real estate investors, housing shortages and high immigration has made Calgary overpriced, the job market does not pay as well compared to American cities & the city feels unsafe downtown. I always find it comforting coming back but prefer California. I think Calgary will bounce back but it may take at least 10 years to return to glory. For now, it is a really good city objectively, but as somebody that has grown up here, I have a higher standard for it.
Didn’t know you guys used to live in Calgary. I’m from Calgary as well and realized how nice it is to live there after travelling for a while. The summers are great but I’m not a fan of the winters. So now its Asia for most of the year and then Calgary for summers!
Look at you two fabulous to see such a beautiful well connected couple … believe me life is to short you have the perfect mix .. keep doing it while you can .. 😊thanks for sharing
I really enjoyed this latest episode of your travels in beautiful Calgary. Cannot thank you both enough for sharing with us your journey and the reasons for moving over to Thailand. Well, all the best and safe travels 💪🙏
Hiya Flora and Note. Thank you for sharing your younger year pictures. And memories. That roll looked tasty. Thank you for the tour around. Your ice creams looked delicious. You are a beautiful couple. Happy Saturday. Have a wonderflo day.
Calgary is actually an awesome city. Not as busy/lively as Vancouver - but has many other advantages - easy to get around and much more affordable with a lot of the elements that make Vancouver so wonderful.
In the video, they mentioned that the temperature can go as low as -30 or even -40....that's Celcius. I lived in Calgary for 3 years, most of the time when the temperature dips this low, its includes the wind chill factor.

Hello from a fellow Calgarian. Love your videos. Been to Thailand 3 times and love the country. Can't wait to come back, especially since it was -40C this weekend!
Yeah I moved to Calgary for work in 2011 and didn't know what the +15's were until I had to use them everyday to get around from work to clients and to get a bite to eat in the winter. Moved back to Vancouver during the petroleum office closures late 2013/early 2014.
Everytime! I’m all but yelling at me screen ‘gimme a bite!’ Oh that looks sooo good!’ 🤣your river is green and CLEAR and beautiful and Notes special secret place is perfect! Since I didn’t grow up in snow, but did live short while in Flagstaff Az., which is nothing compared to Canada 🇨🇦 lol. All the CRAP you have to carry and put on to stay warm! Gimme tshirts shorts n flip flops IM GOOD🤣happy trails thank you🙏🏻❤️
Hanging by the bow and having the best Vietnamese sub in town is such a great way to go back to your memory I'm so happy it's still there so good so delicious. Peace, love and light your way love your videos and somuch love for each other it's beautiful I moved here in 2008 from Ontario and it was the best thing I could have ever done it and my husband and I got married as well in 2013 like you both, love seeing you all have fun. ✌️ 💛 🇨🇦
Calgary has a special place in my heart. I lived there from 2001 to 2011. That Harry Hays building is a special place to me too. I worked there before. That whole area, Marlborough Mall and Chinook Mall were the 3 places I hung out the most cause I either lived around those areas or worked around those areas.
Moved here from the UK; been in Calgary for 10 years now. It’s a great city but i dont know how many more winters i have left in me; they’re too cold and too long. Summers are great, but they’re too short and often ruined by wildfire smoke. Would love to experience another country/culture like Thailand some day
Im from the West Coast and have visited Calgary years back, coming from Vancouver which IMHO is the best city in Canada, I love Thailand so I can see why you would leave Calgary very fast, snow anyone? Great Video
Western World is the place to work & earn money. Thailand is the place to spend what you've earned and enjoy life. Both Canada & USA have so many great nature attractions, but once you've visit them a few times, you'll get bored. Thailand, on the other hand, has it all. You want nature, city life, laid back, excitement, etc... That's the reason why people prefer to live in Thailand (if they have money or they can generate income remotely)
You guys are such a cute couple. I visited Calgary first time in 2010 and it was a winter time. I didn’t like it at all. I lived mostly in big cities like Sydney Australia, Bahrain and Dubai before. So Calgary was so quiet and really hard to get around for me. I decided to move to Calgary in 2019 and in love with it now. Thailand is always my home and probably move back there when I retire. Love your videos. 😊
The first winter in Calgary was so tough for us! But we also fell in love with the summer and fall … and winter got better when we had friends to hang out with at home 😂
Awesome view of Calgary a city I've yet to discover in Canada. That is great that you left to spend more time together and travel. I spent nine years living in Asia (SK and China), been back in Canada five years, and may be going back abroad early next year to Malaysia. Love love all your vlogs of your travels. Keep it up!!
Would you recommend to student planning to study in Canada? I’m Vietnamese and planning to move to Calgary within the next 2 years but It seems many are leaving from there due to crazy cost of living now as well as safety and healthcare

Another wonderfully created Vid Flora & Note.. I think that every city that has a Chinatown has a Key restaurant like Banh Mi Thi Thi that craft Tasty Banh Mi 🤤
Gotta love it that Vancouver is ranked #5 most affordable city versus #7 for Calgary.. Gooooo Canucks * makes a mental note to cut and Paste a Nucks Jersey into Note* 😉🤣
Absolutely love mom and pop places. Love Notes hidden spot to eat lunch. I could hear the sound of the crunchy bread when Flora took a bite of the delicious Banh Mi. Bummer that this place did not remember Note. Looks like a sunny and wonderful day. Note zoomed away on the orange scooter and Flora got stuck. Looks like so much fun. Love bakeries sweets and delicious ice cream. Absolutely Loved Every Minute
I lived 3 years in Calgary, which was fine, but now, like you guys, i chose Koh Samui. Hands down winner is Thailand. Hopefully never see Calgary and winter again. Life is too short. And $9 for an ice cream cone lol? Holy
As a Canadian looking to move to Koh Samui it was inevitable that I would enjoy your channel immensely. But when you guys hit Thi Thi I knew I was in love! 🙂Lived in Calgary in the mid-90's, Thi Thi was my go-to and the subs were less than 4 bucks! Have never had a better Banh Mi since, even living in Vancouver. Hope you guys stay in Koh Samui, you two are lovely and are an amazing resource! - Dave
The pickled chilies in Thi Thi subs are the cherry on top. We aren't based in Samui anymore since we're traveling more than before but whenever we have a longer break we return to Samui. It's still our favourite place in Thailand :)
@@FloraandNote Right, those picked chilies! Nobody else does that! And there is also some unique cheesy sauce in those subs you don't get anywhere else! Anyway glad you two are out enjoying the world! I guess Samui can be a little limiting. Still gonna ask you for where to get the best Pad Kra Pow on the Island though. 😇
Vessi is my favorite shoes but unfortunately they are not available in Malaysia which is so troublesome to ship to Singapore and wait till someone comes back from there.
Calgary is Canada's most liveable city? I've been there in the winter, it's freaking COLD!🥶 I'm spoiled living in Hawaii and California. Love it any other season.. I've had the best wife cake (lo po bang) in that Chinatown. Worth flying in for that alone! I think it was called Rainbow bakery. Floa, better stop while you're ahead... "together 24x7x365" Note looks scared!😂😂
"Better than Vietnam!!?" Man them wordscan be redeemed for a brand new war of the saem name I was in Calgary in the eighties It was a mess half the people that were their were from somewhere else The other half had kind have given up on making this place their own But one recession And the Calgarian took a moment to catch up with life And made it a very, very livable city Shows you with a bit of goodwill (not American) a bit of ressource and TIME Places improve, keep the nice and fucntional and dump the errors Goes a long way in explaining why Europe is so beautiful
Not to mention the massive homeless/drugs issue in Vancouver. Plus, you need a massive income to buy a house and to live there. Great place for money laundering though. :)
Still haven’t been to Thi Thi or Village (didn’t know about till watching this), lived here since 2020 from YEG #LetsGoOilers I walk everywhere and use the C Train
I see Note got ice cream double scoop with cone 13 CAD what a pricey ice cream was , with that price we can buy whole bucket or whole boxes or even 2 boxes .
More than I was expected , but being from Montréal , but the lack of the medium density historical neighbourhood where everything is at walking distance would be a No No for me .
Oof, Calgary is now rapidly losing affordability and prices are rocketing. Rent is closing the gap with BC/Ontario fast (Still not there but AB has no rent increase restrictions so I'm seeing 1200 for a bedroom no utilities in the burbs. Great time in the next year to sell if you have a SFH or rent it out with a management company, and move to Thailand. If I was 20 years older I'd 100% do that. Rent the house out for $3400 a month and live well in Thailand just on that and keep my savings and house. Or sell and live off 80% of the returns and save like a fiend so if I want to come back to Canada I can just buy in cash. My dad's friend did this in Vancouver a few years ago. Sold for 1.2 million and spends maybe 40k a year in Thailand living very well. It's a fraction of his previous investments plus the house sale invested. He doesn't want to move back to the lower mainland ever so if he comes back he'll buy in a smaller mountain area there is a hospital and enjoy that. As it stands, I just go there for a month every few years and dream about moving the SEA (With Western money of course).
Weather and Family are good reasons. However, other reasons you're not mentioning are the taxes are lower in Thailand. Making 40K CAD would be about 20% tax. In Thailand, you are close to LOTS of countries with CHEAP airfare. You can live in Thailand for a third of what it cost in Canada. The culture in Canada has changed a lot too and not for the good. The amount of homeless is less in Thailand. Really, a ton of reasons why Canada is not as appealing as before. I know I will be retiring out of country too. No way am I paying $3k a month to rent and NO DOCTOR. What a joke. No wonder you both moved.
watched your other travel videos. why didn't you guys travel on the same country passports -Canada but 2 different? remember once Note got interrogated at Hong Kong pp control, would not have happened if u two got in same line, stamped through on same Canadian passports?
But you still hv canadian passports. You are canadians. Calgary, edmonton are great cities. I think i will like both BC and alberta due to nature. Yep it is cold like manitoba (where i lived once) that is the only issue for me.

I watch most of your videos
My dream to travel like you
wow very interesting content friend
Calgary is Canada's most liveable city? I've been there in the winter, it's freaking COLD!🥶 I'm spoiled living in Hawaii and California. Love it any other season.. I've had the best wife cake (lo po bang) in that Chinatown. Worth flying in for that alone! I think it was called Rainbow bakery.
Floa, better stop while you're ahead... "together 24x7x365" Note looks scared!😂😂
A delicious Banh Mi! The traditional Viet sandwich! I just always say "No Pate". Not a fan of that. Always ;love your videos Flora and Note.
Did not know you were in Calgary. I have been living here for 8 years.
Love watching you guys ❤❤❤
Is it better to buy or rent in Thailand and which city or town would you recommend? Thanks.
Hi from Johannesburg. Winter in Calgary or Thailand? Hmmmm…Now thats a hard decision :) Safe travels guys!
Great video guys…..
yes. my brother has one said Thailand is the best country to live
He’s right 😊
"Better than Vietnam!!?"
Man them wordscan be redeemed for a brand new war of the saem name
I was in Calgary in the eighties
It was a mess half the people that were their were from somewhere else
The other half had kind have given up on making this place their own
But one recession
And the Calgarian took a moment to catch up with life
And made it a very, very livable city
Shows you with a bit of goodwill (not American) a bit of ressource and TIME
Places improve, keep the nice and fucntional and dump the errors
Goes a long way in explaining why Europe is so beautiful
Lovely couple, Flora & Note ❤
Vancouver and Toronto are the worst cities to move to. Expensive to the MAX
All big cities are expensive eg Hong Kong, NYC, Singapore, London,
Not to mention the massive homeless/drugs issue in Vancouver. Plus, you need a massive income to buy a house and to live there. Great place for money laundering though. :)
Still haven’t been to Thi Thi or Village (didn’t know about till watching this), lived here since 2020 from YEG #LetsGoOilers I walk everywhere and use the C Train
Both of you look cute in the photos 😁
Thank you ☺️
Welcome back to Calgary 🤗 but it's not as affordable as it used to be 🙁
What big city is anymore in Canada? I live in Ottawa and the cost of living is ridiculous! Housing crisis here, and I heard in Calgary as well.
Banh Mi Thi Thi changed ownership January 2024... I can't comment on the new ownership though since I haven't tried it yet
Lovely couple 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😄😄😍😍🥰
Sold the house here in Calgary and plan to move to the Philippines.
Good luck with your move!
0.42$/min? That is more expensive than our Communauto cars!
Much cheaper in Thailand and no despicable lengthy months of snow/hell.
I am a student in Univeristy of Calgary, so you also gratuaded from it?
Nice!
watched your other travel videos. why didn't you guys travel on the same country passports -Canada but 2 different? remember once Note got interrogated at Hong Kong pp control, would not have happened if u two got in same line, stamped through on same Canadian passports?
You changed citizenship??
Two single scoops is cheaper than one double?
note made me too much smile, 7:10.. wear a helmet..😂❤️
Calgary looks like Calcutta India now.
But you still hv canadian passports. You are canadians. Calgary, edmonton are great cities. I think i will like both BC and alberta due to nature. Yep it is cold like manitoba (where i lived once) that is the only issue for me.
Calgary very beautiful.why you guys left. and move to Thailand.?? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
We also think the portion size is crazy! But people get a double serving of noodles or a bowl of rice on the side.... they can eat 😂
