    Without the subtitles, I could barely understand anything. Antony speaks really fast and inarticulately. I love these videos anyway because I can learn authentic phrases and train my listening comprehension, so thank you

      +dancing loulou Still, I'd agree that in French the problem is compounded. For example I come from Poland and the difference between spoken everyday Polish and very correct Polish is minuscule at best, unless we talk about a really uneducated person. Out of the languages I know something of (Polish, English, German, French), French has the most differences between casual everyday and official careful speech.

      A lot of articulation (as any language) depends on the education and personality of the person speaking. We all know that good articulation should be practiced but depending on our mood and emotions at the time, our articulation is affected.

      You can set the speed to 0.75 or 0.5 to make it easier to follow. At 0.5 everyone sounds drunk, though

    To anyone who is learning french like me:
    It helps A LOT, to listen very attentively to their words and accents while looking at the english subtitles so that you will pick up words and interpret and understand what they're saying in your head.

    • @inayahcee3131
      @inayahcee3131 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      geet Kaur But learning French isn't always about understanding what they're saying, it's about listening to the natural tone and speed of a French speaking person and adapting to that. I don't always know what they're saying but I get the jist of it. And that's okay. But I completely understand why you're saying.

    I feel like, with these videos, I'm suddenly learning a whole different language to the one I heard consistently represented in the dozen or so books I had while learning "French."

    • @LiamPorterFilms
      @LiamPorterFilms 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      subjects are dropped, Bs become Ps or even Ms, Vs become Fs or Ps, Us become Ws, diphongs become monothongs, "ne" and "pas" come and go when they like - separately or together - and you can forget about "ce" "me" "se" "que" having their own syllables - from now on they're just tagging along at the end of other ones.

      These vids are NOT for beginners, guys. As a language teacher, I'd say you'd have to be at least A2 level (lower pre-intermediate) to use these videos. Unless you're a language genius and can already speak 5 other languages which is not normally the case)))

      Montin Yek LOL that's the exact point I made. You already speak many languages, so you are able to guess many words and know how the language learning process works. For total beginners who do not speak other languages (maybe just English), this would be too difficult.

    • @theycallmedanie
      @theycallmedanie 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not at all! If you study everyday for *at least* 30 minutes-1 hour for 6 months (watch authentic videos by francophones, read numerous articles, listen to french songs, etc) you will be able to communicate with people at a debutante level if not intermediate. If you *do not* have any type of motivation, inspiration, or wants for learning French then of course it's going to be rather difficult. But it wouldn't take years.
