I started watching this channel yesterday after my cable was turned off. 😅 I made dinner and watched by candlelight. It felt like I was dining on the other side of the world. It’s so extremely comforting and peaceful. No obnoxious music, no unnecessary banter. Thank you for sharing your journeys with us. New subbie, here to stay. ✈️🚊💺🚉😁🫶🏾

These quiet sojourns on Japanese trains and ferries are kind of grown up bedtime stories.,

Japan is a wonderful country. Japanese culture is really quite special. In fact, I feel most Asian countries are pretty neat. Japan has a lot to offer. It's quite different from the West, but in many good ways. Eventually the west may end up mirroring Japan a bit more with all the tech they offer throughout, but for now things are still done pretty much with labor and service jobs available. Japan does not have as much of that so they use more technology to support a lack of people working in labor force. This channel gives a really good view of that. In fact, one of his videos he stays in a hotel and visits a restaurant where no human being is working. It's all technology and robots. But he gets along just fine. Japan is also very clean. People take a lot of pride in cleanliness of their cities and the communal areas. No trash around, no homelessness, no people begging or scheming for money, little to no crime, and people are polite and mind their business. It's quite pleasant to see. Watch videos of people in the states from big cities to small towns and you will see the opposite.

Dalla traduzione in italiano (se il traduttore automatico non traduce male, come temo) risulta che tu hai guidato il treno "Shinkansen" negli anni '80. Come hai potuto guidarlo ? Eri un guidatore di treni ed avevi un permesso speciale per guidarlo ? A me pare impossibile perchè tu non sei un ferroviere giapponese con licenza per poter guidare quel tipo di treno.

4:48. YOUR SO LUCKY TO ENCOUNTER THE 500 SERIES!! I have always wanted to ride on one of those! They are my top favourite trains of all times. But sadly. 9 (discount 1 that is preserved in Kyoto railway museum W1). Only 6 of them are remaining (V2, V3, V4, V7, V8 and V9 formations) and V5 and V6 (which is getting dismantled soon as I heard). I really hope you could do a trip report on one of these before they are all gone. These are really rare trains to ride on.

Wow! I would love to ride that bullet train.
History Lesson: I lived in Pueblo, Colorado in the early 70’s. A Bullet Train was purchased from Japan. They built a test track. They collected additional taxes to fund it. It was to run from Pueblo to Colorado Springs to Denver, a distance of 114 miles. It was never built. But you could still take the train. It ran on a fright track and took around 8 hours, a whopping 14 mph!

And my my, i really recommend to trying out the 700 hikari rail stars running on Hikari/ Hikari Rail Stars services so you could experience the glory days of when first they enter service (they are used to fight against air travel back when they first enter service). But because of N700-8000 series running Hikari, Sakura and Mizuho services. They mostly replace the 700 series rail star running on Hikari services resulting in them now running on Kodama services. 700 series rail star running Hikari services are rare nowadays. If you ever have the chance to do so. I really recommend you doing so.

But the Italian high-speed lines are either too old or too short. I believe the regulations do not allow speeds above 300 km/h.

When I was a child and bullet trains started in Japan I thought America would get some. I think we were steered to airlines. You still have to find a way to get from an airport to the city itself and airports are disliked for noise over housing. But we supported the airline companies so long they are entrenched in their system of finding the travel need and adjusting flights to meet it. As a culture we get talked out of trains and building the infrastructure needed. So we tolerate the great speed we can travel by them. I watch another channel where a man takes AMTRAK Roomette trips and our trains just go slow and out of the way of our mountains. Our trains share tracks with freight trains. America never found a reason to rebuild the tracks for 180 MPH Shinkansen. Planes just go over everything in the way.
That said, I do have a bucket list to take a long Amtrak someday. It's about the only way you can have attention on the view of the country instead of the roadway and other drivers.
But for casual "go visit the family" travel? If I went from Savannah, GA to Glenview, IL I go to Washington, DC first and it's three different trains (and occasionally a connecting bus) in my trip. It costs $198 to $410 for coach seating one way. It takes 37 to 43 hours. I'd still have to take a 4th METRA train to get near to where my family could meet me with their car to go to their rural home. In some ways it's better than having them drive to the airport some hour+ away by highway; but I picture it as stressful for me as the traveler making all the transfers and ticket buying.

Great trip. My biggest question, is this private room only available in Kodama Shinkansen who running between Hakata and Shin Osaka? Or there are private room in same route at higher tier Shinkansen like Hikari and Nozomi? Secondly, is that room only at one of train end or there is another room at other end of train? Talking about High Speed Train, my country will get their First High Speed Train delivery around this year and will be operating maybe early next year. At this moment, the fastest train in my country is only around 100-120 km/h.

      Hi, Alan!
The private room service is only available on "700series - Railstar" and its Kodama and Hikari tier. I recommend you go to JR's ticket offices and ask when "Railstar" go in operation.
The private room section is located only on "Car 8". Which end of the train it will be depends on the destination, toward Hakata or Shin-Osaka. I hope these help.
Thanks for the information. You live in Indonesia??

If there’s no additional charge to use the private room why did you have to buy one adult and two children tickets?

It's because you need at least 3 people to use the room. So I had to buy 2 children tickets extra to become "3"

    新幹線にも個室あったらいいと思っていましたが、存在するのですね。赤ちゃん連れとか、凄く助かると思います。
