I wasn't the biggest fan of Kevin when he was revealed to do the voice and when i first heard his performance in Mario Wonder and WarioWare Move It. I just didn't like that he sounded a lot more higher pitched compared to Charles's voice clips from the Wii U/Switch era. Heck, when i heard his voice in the Mario day video, i wanted him fired from the role because i didn't think he could get better… but when i heard his voice in Super Mario Party Jamboree and Mario & Luigi Brothership, i started to like Kevin's voice and realized that i was wrong. Ever since then i have liked Kevin's voice.
It’s been a year, and I still hate the Peach face art change. I’m sorry it just looks so bad design wise. It clashes with everything else, and literally looks more like someone at Nintendo/Goodfeel used AI imagery to change her face opposed to changing her face from the base model used in the Key art. I don’t mind Peach having a determine face, but the way they did there was just done so poorly! Another thing to add scrutiny to the change is that it also blurs her front hair bang detail by a variety. That face change alone only just set another example of how changes like those can make or break a character design so badly…
Same. I think Kevin sounds good now. I also think it is really cool that Charles's voice clips are still being used but just in remakes/remasters. It's possible that Charles's voice clips could be reused for brand new games during Switch 2 sense the retirement post only said that he wouldn't record new lines.
No, fans don't need to do anything. If anything resisting change (the sterilization of story and characters) has brought back original characters and unique design
I don’t mind a lot of the changes in Brothership, it was a great game, a lot of fun, but I need the next M&L game to have the old combat selection system (Mario with A, Luigi with B, not the both use A but during attacks Luigi uses B?) That’s my only complaint.
Slowly learned this year how much Mario fans are really can’t deal with minor changes You’d think on how they react to the changes it would be something like I characterized change or some sort of team management change that happened but it’s really really… Not that much of a huge deal has they make it out to be or seem
Wait where’s that weird Rocky Wrench in the thumbnail from? It looks like a Mario Wonder enemy artstyle-wise but I don’t remember them being in the game
I love the new changes in the Mario games and i think aquire did a great job with Brotehrship as well. They just need to iron out a few problems in then next Mario and Luigi game to make it even better and truelly amazing.
As a Mario fan. I don’t mind the changes at all… except the bomber Bill thing but that’s not much a big deal… I’ll still called it “Bonzil Bill” even though I makes Jokes in the Pac-community, but Other Mario fans have to deal with it! I mean like! Nintendo is at least doing something new! And real New stuff! Don’t just hate on it! I mean it’s Twitter! What’s do we expect from that? Come on Mario fan! Deal with it!
I am not sure why you're telling Mario fans to get use to change, because back in the late Wii and Wii U days many fans wanted Mario Series to change or get weird again during the era of New Super days. To be up to date with Rayman Legends, Tropical Freeze, and Celeste with mechanics and aesthetics either mainline or spinoff. Need I remind you to the Modern Paper Mario discussion? This is the opposite problem with Sonic due to Sega trying to test out many ways to branch out Sonic to newer fans after the failure of the Dream Cast. Either a soft reboot with Sonic 06 or making the writing more comedic than it character focus stories such as Colors and Forces. Fans both Genesis and even the dark era (Adventure to Unleashed) wanted Sonic go back to its roots either 2D or Adventure style of game play while telling compelling stories and consist characterization. They want change, but also keep in mind of identity of the Sonic Series.
I agree when it is a good change and as I said before it was a fantastic mario game but a terrible mario and luigi game no you do not make changes to the point of it not feeling like a mario and luigi game you want to make changes innovate on what you have something pokemon and nintendo seems to lack these days
It's funny how Mario fans were bitching a lot about the NSMB series and how it paved the way for everything to look super samey and stagnant for years and now that this franchise has been evolving ever since Mario's debut on the Switch with Odyssey, people are complaining about all of these changes. Gamers, regardless of the fandom, will never be satisfied :/
I know right? Like how people were complaining about how Peach was a "useless damsel in distress" (which she's not, but go off I guess) and needed to be more proactive. And now that we've had more Mario media lately where she ISN'T a damsel in distress (the Mario movie, Mario Wonder, Princess Peach Showtime...) now there are people who are complaining that she's no longer a damsel in distress, even calling the Mario movie "woke" for having Peach be more proactive? Like I'm sorry but WHAT
It's about time that we get some innovation in the world of Mario in general. I've thoroughly enjoyed the new wacky stuff going on. It's so fun to not know what to expect anymore.
As long as Bowser's not the 🤬 villan and final 🤬 boss. And as long as everybody's not a 🤬 Toad or minion. And...were are all the older characters like Piantas, Lumas, and Honey Queen already?! 😠
I don't remember if this was mentioned, but there was another enemy that did got changed in the later years: Amp. Back then, Amp's consistent design was a black ball with white lips, but starting from Dr. Mario World its body was changed to silver. Possibly because it resembles a racial caricature. There was also a few enemies that did get redesigns during the 2010s like Scuttlebug, Crowber, and Pokey so there was already a sense of design changes over the years. Just had to say this out.
I’m actually happy to see change in the Mario franchise, as long as it doesn’t affect the overall quality of it. And you know, as a Sonic fan, I’m someone who wants to see major changes to the franchise, like getting rid of the Boost formula, or getting a completely new voice cast.
I'd rather developers try something new and innovate with the risk of missing the mark than regurgitate the same slop year after year. That's why Nintendo is dominating the market. They might be "kiddy", but in the Switch Era, they've been constantly experimenting and trying new things like they did in the Gamecube and (to a lesser extent) the Wii.
I actually think Mario is on the right track right now. Nintendo played it too safe in the 2010s, and I’m glad that they’re finally starting to do interesting things with the series.
I'd be fine with the changes to the Mario franchise if they weren't all bad. But they are. 1. Replacing Charles for practically no reason gutted the soul of all of his characters and now they sound so off. It's not atrocious, it's just... not them. 2. A majority of the Mario movie character choices are just oversimplified and overly tropey because Nintendo understands that these things work for a large majority of movies. There wasn't any heart in the decision to make Mario an everyman, or to make Peach a lifeless powerhouse, or to make Donkey Kong Seth Rogan, they were all tactically done in order to appeal to general audiences. 3. Mario Wonder isn't all that different from New Super Mario Bros. It's not that new of a take, and it's both way easier than those games and way shorter. 4. Most new Mario games are just remakes or overpriced spinoffs anyway. Both Mario Parties are functionally the same game but are priced at 60 dollars. Thousand Year Door and RPG are remakes. Mario 3D All-Stars had a scummy restrictive release, skimped out on Galaxy 2 and emulated all the games all for 60 big ones, and all the sports games are NOT worth 60 dollars. Mario fans don't need to do anything, but Nintendo fans like you really need to learn how to accept other people's opinions.
1. Charles is getting old and needs to enjoy the fruits of his labors. 2. Yeah, the Mario movie character choices sucked. Felt like a generic, half-done story made as an obligation to an admittedly great visual celebration of Mario. 3. Wonder isn't all that different, but it didn't need to be either. 4. The Mario spin-offs are overpriced, though I do like that the remakes were ground-up rebuilt (though arguably unnecessarily for TTYD), and that makes it worth it IMO. I think the spin-offs outside of Kart and Party need to end though; it's clear that an environment of inflated dev costs can't really sustain B-tier spin-offs anymore.
Still not sure why exactly the voice actor change happened, but I also don't have anything to say about new ones, which means they're doing a good job Mario Movie was aight. Don't have much to say about it either. Wonder was a great mix of old and new for me, and i think it's the best paced 2d Mario as well. The Lengh/Engagement ratio of NSMBWii and NSMBU in particular was VERY rough. And the thought of replaying them again, a drag.
1. If Charles died before we got to know if he consented to giving the role to a new guy it would be a difficult situation, and Nintendo knew this. This was just for the best. We've seen situations like this before where, for example, whenever Genie appears in any new Disney thing people get angry because it's not Williams, even though he's dead and can't do the role. Fandoms can get extremely weird and parasocial when a big figure in a franchise they like dies, as we've also seen with Hillenburg and Iwata. Some characters also get retired entirely after their VA dies out of respect for the VA, which is especially common practice in Japan. I think Kevin gets better with each time he does the job, and in Brothership I can't really tell the difference. I think it's great he at least gets to have Martinet's blessing while Martinet's still alive, and Martinet at least gets to be Mario Ambassador, and meet big fans of his the world over, while still doing his iconic voice, even if it's not for media anymore. 2. I disliked the Mario movie, so I agree. Pretty sure Mario was always sort of an everyman though. I think my biggest problem with the changes was that the directors claimed the characters had no personality in the games, and that's why they "needed" the celebrity casting. 3. I also agree here if we're talking about gameplay, but I think when people praise Wonder they're talking about the use of more original aesthetics and concepts and not gameplay. Gameplay is as it's always been. I still think it's better than all the NSMB games though and it's a lot of fun, but I do think it's overpraised. Many folks will often call it revolutionary to the entire genre for stuff other platformers have already done before at least a decade ago, like badges and challenge stages. 4. At the end of a Nintendo console's life cycle it's become common practice to release a lot of remakes. It happened with the 3DS as well. You can't judge an entire era of Mario off of this I think. I personally felt Mario RPG and TTYD were a lot more awaited than a typical remake though, like the former already had fans remaking it and the latter had entire petitions. 3D All-Stars kinda sucked yeah, but it was made specifically as an anniversary title, which is another time where remakes and ports are common practice. Mario Party Superstars and Super Mario Party have the same DNA, but Superstars was fun and Super wasn't. I haven't played Jamboree so I can't comment on it. I didn't buy the sports games because they looked terrible. I still think there are Mario fans that should accept some level of change. At the very least the first point since I think the situation would be uglier if Nintendo didn't go about it the way they chose to.
It's fine to have criticisms, but this is just being contrarian. 1. Charles was getting older. He's 69 and while that might not seem old, he was getting up there in age. And Kevin sounds pretty good, just very whimsical with that Mario charm. Even his Wario voice is much better in Jamboree than how it sounded in Move It. This is Nintendo future proofing the series as they couldn't rely on Charles to voice Mario forever. 2. You don't pay attention to the spin-offs. Peach is a powerhouse in several games, it's confirmed she's stronger than Zelda and could obliterate her in a one-on-one fight. I think they did a good job with the characters. It's refreshing to see her take a more involved role in the action. I can see where you're coming from there, but Mario still felt like Mario, and DK, despite my concerns with Seth Rogan voicing the character, did a good job. 3. That's blatantly false. Wonder was a much needed breath of fresh air for 2D Mario, overflowing with creativity, charm, and passion that rivals Mario Odyssey. And it's better than getting the same game three times, which is what the New Super Mario Bros. felt like from Wii onward. Minus bosses, Wonder was a dream Mario game. 4. High quality remakes and remakes of games fans love. That's not even remotely true. We had four very distinctly different Mario Party games on the GameCube, and I can tell you, Superstars and Jamboree are not functionally the same game, both are very different. They are remakes, but remakes of games fans have wanted for years. Why are you bringing up a four year collection of lazy ports? Fans agree that it was a lazy collection that was overpriced, and wanted Galaxy 2 to be included. Fans also agree there about the mediocre sports games not being worth it. This isn't about you having an opinion, you're just being way too much of a contrarian and looking for things to complain about. Aside from the sports games, Mario's back at a point where most fans agree, this is the direction they want the series to go in. Paper Mario, Mario Party, and Mario VS. Donkey Kong all returning to their roots, the Mario & Luigi series back from the dead, Princess Peach starring in her own game again, Mario is getting less rigid and is allowed to experiment more like it did during the GameCube era. No more bland New Super Mario Bros. aesthetics.
Sorry if it looks like I was trying to get the video to 8 minutes, it was just a coincidence lmao 😭

As a Mario fan of my own as well, I'm alright with this change as well
I don't mind kevin anymore because he did amazing for brothership but the smb wonder art style is still bad (background is nice though)
Same. I think Kevin sounds good now. I also think it is really cool that Charles's voice clips are still being used but just in remakes/remasters. It's possible that Charles's voice clips could be reused for brand new games during Switch 2 sense the retirement post only said that he wouldn't record new lines.
Tbh “bomber bill” just sounds less interesting
Bruh the only change i noticed is voice acting. And thats understandable charles martinet has worked very hard is kind of old now.
Mario fans are fine with change but Sonic fans aren’t
"Mario fans are fine with change"
Also Mario fans when Chris Pratt was announced as the voice of Mario instead of Charles Martinet:
@sonic fans are more annoying than Mario fans
I don’t mind the changes really. I especially like the Rocky Wrenches’ redesigns. Makes them more distinctive
No, fans don't need to do anything. If anything resisting change (the sterilization of story and characters) has brought back original characters and unique design
I been Mario fan since birth and I’m fine with change
I dont think Mario has changed anymore then you'd expect a typical franchise too? Just comes down to the changes themselves, as always.
I'm used to change in Mario; in fact I expect it.
Won't stop me from criticizing BAD change.
I don’t mind a lot of the changes in Brothership, it was a great game, a lot of fun, but I need the next M&L game to have the old combat selection system (Mario with A, Luigi with B, not the both use A but during attacks Luigi uses B?) That’s my only complaint.
Sonic Now > Mario Now
Who's saying this? This is a Zelda fan thing not a mario fan thing
I’ve seen a ton of ridiculous discourse about Peach’s face on the cover of Showtime and Mario’s new voice. People are petty and lame.
Slowly learned this year how much Mario fans are really can’t deal with minor changes
You’d think on how they react to the changes it would be something like I characterized change or some sort of team management change that happened but it’s really really…
Not that much of a huge deal has they make it out to be or seem
Well mario need change also princess peach showtimes also change their box art
I definitely would agree and change isn’t bad imo.
TOAD"S WORTH COMING BACK!?!?!
Wait where’s that weird Rocky Wrench in the thumbnail from? It looks like a Mario Wonder enemy artstyle-wise but I don’t remember them being in the game
It's actually from Party Jamboree
@ Ah ok
I've literally have never seen someone complain about the change besides peach
I love the new changes in the Mario games and i think aquire did a great job with Brotehrship as well. They just need to iron out a few problems in then next Mario and Luigi game to make it even better and truelly amazing.
I think it really depends on the changes they make to the franchise.
Been playing mario since i was born and didnt have any issues?
As a Mario fan. I don’t mind the changes at all… except the bomber Bill thing but that’s not much a big deal… I’ll still called it “Bonzil Bill” even though I makes Jokes in the Pac-community, but Other Mario fans have to deal with it! I mean like! Nintendo is at least doing something new! And real New stuff! Don’t just hate on it! I mean it’s Twitter! What’s do we expect from that?
Come on Mario fan! Deal with it!
ngl this applies to zelda fans more than
WALUIGI'S PINBALL ARCADE WHAAAAT 🤯🤯
I feel it's more of the vocal folks complaining.
Change isn’t a good or a bad thing
Kevin afghani is great I like him more. And alphadream is bankruptcy and for acquire corp is that her first Nintendo game.
I believe hes saying this is because some portion of mario fans are abject to change in the series
@raymaniqe1906aka peach fans lol
It's so fun to not know what to expect anymore.
hi Reecee
Every mario games on switch need to change
I just need more Mario and Luigi and I will be okay 👌 👍
As long as Bowser's not the 🤬 villan and final 🤬 boss. And as long as everybody's not a 🤬 Toad or minion. And...were are all the older characters like Piantas, Lumas, and Honey Queen already?! 😠
Wouldnt it be weird to see Piantas outside of spinoffs? Like not on Isle Delfino
@raymaniqe1906 Well, I did see a few in Mario Galaxy 2. But only a few. ...And they were all guys.
@@NegaLimbo who knows, maybe they can emigrate
@raymaniqe1906 Hmmm. Maybe.
Bro got payed by Nintendo 💀
I've been used to the changes the entire time that I didn't notice the changes at all XD I don't get why people are stubborn as shit
I'd rather developers try something new and innovate with the risk of missing the mark than regurgitate the same slop year after year.
That's why Nintendo is dominating the market. They might be "kiddy", but in the Switch Era, they've been constantly experimenting and trying new things like they did in the Gamecube and (to a lesser extent) the Wii.
hi
The games are fun. Just go back to princess peach needing to be rescued instead of the direction they took in the movie
Still not sure why exactly the voice actor change happened, but I also don't have anything to say about new ones, which means they're doing a good job
Mario Movie was aight.
No more bland New Super Mario Bros. aesthetics.
