The Corvette's engine really doesn't sound like the LS7 in stock Z06s. I wonder if the sound difference is because of straight-pipes, the straight-cut gears, or the microphone?
Guess you didnt notice all the other traffic, werent a hole lot of opportunities to pass safely. Not to mention its a 14 mile, or so, lap. Dont necessarily need to pass on the first corner.
just so you youngsters kno, there will never be a better race chassis that houses a gasoline powered engine;st8 from the factory; better than the 2008-12 c6 z06/zr1. the only thing that comes close to that is the porsche gt3rs- rs4.0.. ill leave you keyboard warriors to do your own research, dicover new, old, and BANNED race venues... and hopefully pull away from the good ol computer screen & put your own machine together, so u can truly appreciate the art of engineering.
@unknownunknowns: Engine size has nothing to do with it, especially since the Porsche is using power adders (turbos) and the Corvette is naturally aspirated.
it is 6 speed box, but 6th gear is way too long, plus the main straight is actually uphill... that cayman was so far from the standard car it is untrue, may as well call it something else... btw, the cayman did have a sequential box at the time... i think Alzen is racing for BMW now, oh the irony!
jejejeje the size of the motor it isn't important because the 2 cars, if they are in the same class, have the same power-weigth radio so the diference is the driver and i think that the engine of the cayman is a 3.8
The latest generation Porsche Cayman S has a 3.4 L engine with max. power: of 325 hp. The car in the video looks to be highly modified and may have a Porsche 3.8L engine in it but I highly doubt that. All in all two closely matched modified cars on an amazing track.
@vlnfreak24 I'm sorry I thought it was 3.4L as it is the biggest being offered. If this is the case, then why the hell is this not being offered in the Cayman/Boxster? Will it make the 911 more overpriced than it is right now?
all you PORSCHE fans answer me if the corvette is so slow and cant handle , got lucky and passed in traffic, then why didnt the god almighty porsche pass the vette when it had plenty of room with no traffic and a long straight near the end ZO6 rules thats why dumbaflaggen idiots
@Blootster Right. Also, having the engine placed front, rear, or middle does also affect the handling, which is why the Corvette had some trouble overcoming the Cayman at the corners.
@unknownunknowns I'm sure you are a racing enthusiast like myself, so I feel you should know that at this level of competition displacement doesn't win races. Look at formula 1
Lots of traffic, that porsche could have been going quite a bit quicker through the corners where its advantage lies. I dont sleep on corvettes though. I thought they werent supposed to pass on the right on the ring? Good race.
unknownunknowns I know it's over a year since you had this brain fart. Do you know how bad a stock Corvette Z06 destroys a stock Porsche Cayman at the ring? Both cars right off the showroom floor in 100% stock form? 2012 Stock Z06 went 7:22! A Stock 2012 Cayman S went 8:04! That's an unreal 42 seconds! That's without all the help the Caymans get from the race series when raced. The Cayman needs turbos and an increase in cubic inches and maybe some weight removed to compete with a Z06. Ha!
So, it took over 6 mins for the Z06 that had an engine that was TWICE the size of the Cayman's to beat it? When the Cayman gets turbos or a 5.0L engine GM will need to watch out!
the Corvette overtook the Cayman because of traffic, kinda hurts me to see a Corvette overtook a Cayman because of that, as a Corvette Series fanboy...
Holy ****! That Corvette driver is a mad man!
this is one of the best racing videos i have seen on youtube. thats raw when hes like a foot behind the cayman. just pure control.
Outstanding video. Id love to see my c5 romp through the corners so lively , that beast your railing.
wow. incredible driving. His situational awareness bordered on psychic
Nurburgring RULES!! Great video, the corvette sounds amazing. Would love to drive my CS around the ring one weekend

really good drivers and an amazing sense of oportunity has the guy on Z06...awesome pass...
True, the sequential gearbox does make a lot of noise. But the engine itself just sounds so different.
Kissling kicking ass!
wow that was a good battle
Exactly! +1
--that is, assuming that this is a Callaway Z06.R GT3. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
LS7, 505 Horsepower.......
That was intense!

Nice driving, en that with bladveren
Jealous. Is that an excuse?
It sounded like the C6 was driven at about 6,600 to 7,200 rpms the full video. It did not even sound like a V-8.
Camera placement...damn
damn... that Volvo driver would have crapped himself!
@Blootster Right. Also, having the engine placed front, rear, or middle does also affect the handling, which is why the Corvette had some trouble overcoming the Cayman at the corners.
Actually all cars in gt3 are evenly matched....look up the rules...
C'est beau
you do know that the cayman has a 4L engine and weights about 100kgs less, right?... is fast turning car...

alter in dem porsche will ich nich sitzen immer mit der geilen corvette im nacken haha
go back to watching nascar
its the Sequential transmission making most of the sound.
Get owned son.
@unknownunknowns let's forgive the ignorant kid

It has a 4.0 with over 400hp and has less weight on it.
