I have just bought the QU-16 and I’m slightly confused. People are saying that in the digital mixing world… the level goes as high as 0db before things start to distort…. ( when setting gain ) Yet the QU-16 meters go all the way up to +12? I’m a pop singer , using a Shure beta58a and I’m struggling to get the right input setting because my voice jumps all over the place even in the same song. So do I set the gain to not go over 0db or not? Within the same ballad, I could be singing and it shows around -6 on the meters… but then come to the chorus I’m jumping up to +6 …. Help! Haha
You could try using the compressor on the mic input set with about 2.5 to 1 or 3 to 1 ratio and adjust the threshold so it shows a slight reduction over 0dB. Usually low compression ratios on vocals sound best and higher compression ratios (higher than 3) will really be noticeable. Hope this helps.
