I've been rendering videos at 45k-50k for 1080p and seen significant changes in the pixels of my uploaded videos, but recently I bumped up my render to 60k and saw significant and lower pixels especially quick motions in games that I play. Still experimenting on it, but my friend said that 60k is a bit much for a 1080p video.
Hey there, nice Video and good Tip with the Grain! But i'd recomand you try to export MP4 or MOV with the H.265 Codec if You have the Studio Version. TH-cam does'nt Compress the footage that hard after uploading anymore and so you can reduce the risk of getting artefacts in the Image. And another important thing is to Upload in 4k, even if you shoot in 1080p, so youtube uses the higher quality vp09 Codec on your Video.
@@dantheman359 It doesnt matter, you can export out in 4k or upscale in other software; the dimensions of 4k will force youtube to give you better codec- Technically 48fps also increases bitrate; Some people export in their fps and 1080 then upscale and comp that timeline into a 48fps timeline or close to 48 fps such as 50.
I have to say this isn’t as scary as I thought it would be !! I actually prefer it already only using it for a day or so. I forgot to say good shout on the 8 bit point as I was about to buy Studio to get the 10 bit option but I’m an amateur so I’ll learn it first :-)
QuickTime uncompressed for lossless or H265 with Key Frames set to every 1 frames for near lossless quality. I use Dav Res for color correcting but I like to use software x265 for getting the best quality encodes and sometimes run the corrected files through Topaz Video AI so I like to have a near perfect file for that.
Again I want to ask the same question? how to get the highest quality of video on TH-cam after upload?, I'm in India, your videos always plays in 1440p, for all other creators max 1080p. please make a video about sequence or project settings, export settings and TH-cam compression ? it will be a big boon for us to get the best video quality like yours. thanks a lot
@1:08 he says if you want the best quality, here on TH-cam, after upload, start editing with high quality footage. Probably high bitrate 1080HD or 2k-4k.
So, I'd say this video does tackle a question for a lot of people. This is a great video, and I encourage people to understand that the input of your recordings is going to be dictated by what your input says. Just like Joris Herman's said. Upscaling your Resolution however, it will depend on the graphics you are attempting/wanting to input. Especially something records in the resolution you desire to get to the High resolution you are wanting. 1080p 60fps. It is about Normal for people who use computer screens with High Refresh rate monitors. Video Quality Cameras are a little different, as they are designed to produce fantastic input for video content / recordings. Here is a good example. A Nintendo Switch: (Limited to 1080p - 30fps on a 4K TV) It is only able to display its Highest resolution of 1080p. At 30fps. Because of this. You can adjust the "FPS" Only. Image Quality will be dictated by the system graphical output. It will not change at all because of the Graphical recording. All you will gain is smoother frames during a process. However, YOU technically "Can" Improve the graphical capability while recording. But again, the Input will not look good if you don't record and adjust everything beforehand, To improve the Quality of the video. I learned this by using Davinci Resolve.
You should use h.265 it adds slightly higher quality per pixel, after youtube compression casey faris did a whole video explaining the codecs and comparing all of the combinations
@valleybrook hi. You mean after youtube compression? What res and fps did you export to? And did you decrease the bitrate in h265 to achieve the smaller file size?
@valleybrook Using the default settings under TH-cam preset of DR, right? Also what resolution did you export to? (cause i'm trying to find out if h265 only helps when the res is higher than 4k)
Thanks for your advices. But I have a very simple question: To avoid excessive storage of my rushes, I want, for example, to keep 1 minute out of a 3-minute rush BUT in the same format, quality, bitrate, etc. In short, in native video format. Is there a quick way? My searches have been unsuccessful even though I think this is a question that concerns many people...

Thanks for making this video. Very clear. I have some questions. Why do you not use the H.265 codec since its a smaller fireside? And also, what would be the bitrate for a 1080p video. Or do you leave it on automatic?

Dear Joris, Thanks for great Info on Davinci resolve! May i ask you, Q1) is it possible to work with gopro hero9 and DJI mini2 HVEC/H.265 files now with Davinci Resolve 17 free version now? Q2) Does Davinci Resolve 17 free version use GPU while editing or rendering?

Hi Joris, I am getting noise on video quality on low light video . How to achieve original video quality in davinci resolve 18 while importing . It should not create any noise or its should not loose video quality.
Decided to try out DaVinci Resolve but I wanted to make sure the quality is good first. I tried exporting a simple GoPro 11 video shot in 8 bit 4k60 60mbps h265. No matter the settings I use it could never match the source. I tried: - mp4 h264 60mbps and 120mbps - mp4 h265 60mbps and 120mbps - mov h264 60mbps and 120mbps - mov h264 60mbps and 120mbps It just couldn't match the source regardless of codec and bitrate. I also enabled Encoding Profile: High and still there was no change whatsoever. Whatever I did the original source file had better detail especially on things like road surface texture and branches of trees. I tried the DNxHR codec at 444 10 bit and it did retain a little bit more detail but still didn't match the source. The file came out 58 times larger which is completely unusable. And it also makes no sense that the original H265 60mbps source footage can retain such high quality while being compressed in a high efficiency codec while an export 58 times larger cannot retain the quality??? Like how does that make any sense.
Great video Joris! I'd say as usual! I would be interested to see comparison of a talking head segment shot on a mobile, point and shoot, m50 and a7siii. I would like to see how much of a difference is in quality because I guess with proper lighting like the one you have and watching the video on a mobile phone the difference is negligible. Or is it?

Well, first of all, the higher the bitrate, the bigger the file will be so you can just set it super high because you'll end up with huge files. At some point there also won't be any more quality increase depending on the medium. How do you know? TH-cam has recommended bitrates listed on their help pages here: support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en#zippy=%2Cbitrate So, usually I take those as a reference and set it 20% or so higher just to be sure.
Hi Joris, After uploading video to Davicine Resolve, the quality of video dropped. How do I maintain the same quality as the original? Thanks and greatly appreciate for your advice.
You have to make sure the timeline and project settings are the same as the source material. Usually it's set to 1080 by default. Also make sure in the Playback menu at the top that the Timeline Proxy mode is set to Off.

@@JorisHermans Most media source clips are from DJI Pocket 3, some stills and screen captures -- all stored on internal 2 TB SSD HD (as is the output/rendered video). When I put the clips into the timeline (importing them in the process), I had not changed project settings from 24 fps, but I don't know if that would have this effect. Video is 30-40 min backpacking trips (40 +/- GB). Oddly, previous 30 min video would slight stutter when rendered as a QuickTime but no stutter as MP4, but, most recent video (40 min/42 GB +/-) was the opposite for the two formats (all recordings with same settings I mentioned previously except for MP4 vs QuickTime). Does that mean that both rendered videos are fine and all this stutter effect it the result of settings or something with my local computer affecting playback? stuff running in background maybe? With 32 GB memory, 3.3 GHz Ryzen 9 CPU, NVIDIA RTX 3060 graphics card, it was my hope that it could handle the video output without any stutter. By the way, thank you for taking the time to reply -- I'm know you must be very busy indeed!
Sorry, forgot to mention. Pocket 3 settings were all (at least, I think it was all) at 4K 30 fps. Project settings was default at 24 fps and rendered at 24 fps. I've heard that one should render at same fps as fps of project settings since (if I'm correct), the clip, once imported and in the timeline, is then at whatever the fps is set to in the project settings. Please let me know if I'm mistaken. Thanks again for your help!

No one explains what that 'Quality - restrict to:' option does or why it's important. How does restricting quality guarantee that it is highest?
Well, first of all, the higher the bitrate, the bigger the file will be so you can just set it super high because you'll end up with huge files. At some point there also won't be any more quality increase depending on the medium. How do you know? TH-cam has recommended bitrates listed on their help pages here: support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en#zippy=%2Cbitrate So, usually I take those as a reference and set it 20% or so higher just to be sure.
Why people continue to use h264 , the file is 10 times worst of h265. Also if the social compress the result with 265 is better of 264
ok, thank you but if I export in 1080 is always 50000 bit or less? I export in 45000.. Is that ok, or should I increase it to 50000 or more?
45000 should be just fine 👌🏻
@@JorisHermans Thank You 😊
I would really like to know how to import RAW pictures into DaVinci and make a video with those. I use 15fps (before DaVinci changes it)
Hi Joris,
After uploading video to Davicine Resolve, the quality of video dropped.
@@JorisHermans okay, thanks for the advice!
why can't i export my 60fps video with same frame rate settings in davinci? Why only upto 24FPS available in da vinci?
5:42 the video starts.
Weird, I just checked and I'm pretty sure it starts at 00:00 🤔
@@JorisHermans Should it though? Should it Joris? 😬
@@ModernConversations If you start at 00:00 you get an extra 5 minutes and 42 seconds of rugged handsomeness, insanely wise words and super interesting thoughts... I mean 🤷🏻♂️😅
@@JorisHermans Oh well that's true, I should have been along for the ride.
as a shitposter, i looked up how to get the lowest quality
🤨😅
Smart
recommended bitrate for a 1080 export?
TH-cam recommends 12mbps, I would go for 15 - 20mbps.
@@JorisHermansthank you!
Can I please get some help, for some reason with the new update. When I set the Quality Restrict to 45000kb/s the exported file the bit rate is no where close to this it is 4000kbps
What kind of video are you exporting? Screen recordings often have lower bit rates for example...
@@JorisHermans thank you kindly for getting back to me, i think i manage to work it out, i needed to make sure under the "Rate Control" i need to set it to "Constance Bitrate" for some reason it got defaulted to "Constance QP" ahhhh something so simple took me ages to work out lol
Any suggestions for fixing slight stutter in final, rendered 4K video? DaVinci Resolve 18.6. Computer: Lenovo Legion (CPU AMD Ryzen, NVIDIA 3060, 32 GB memory, 2 TB SSD, 4K Res). Media Source (DJI Pocket 3, some screen captures, FinePix JPEGs), Project Settings (Timeline res 3840x2160 ultra HD, 24 fps, Opt. Media/Render Cache 1/4 DNxHR HQX), Render settings: MP4, H.265, Auto encoder, 3840x2160, fps 24, Quality Auto-Best, Key frames Auto. When I render the final video, it has slight shutter/stutter the entire video. Anyway to fix this?
What were the recording settings? That's probably the problem; a different recording frame rate.
When I set export format as a QuickTime format, I can’t play it on my computer, so I have to convert it and this is something I don’t like, because I don’t know any good free converter.
When I record in 4K TH-cam seems to really darken the blacks in my videos. But it’s not consistent. Frustrating as a beginner because I’m never sure if it’s me or TH-cam lol
😅
thanks!
Most welcome!
I exported video from premiere pro to color grade in davinci, but when i export it back to premiere, it becomes longer than the original video and the lips no longer sync, in some cases, the videos no longer match. Can anyone help me with a solution please?
Somehow my upload setting changed to SD from HD. Unable to find in Settings to change/
i have very high quality vid and when i finish edit with DaVinci resolve it turns my vid quality always worse then a original vid i put in . i need that high picture quality like i recorded it
does davinci have the issse where the video quality drops after rendering. premiere pro has it and i have to use a gamma lut to export all the time.
