  • Today i'm in the beautiful island nation of Barbados and instead of staying in one of the ultra luxury resorts, costing thousands of dollars per night, I figured I should try out a cheaper and more mainstream option. It turns out, I picked correctly!

Don't forget, both Sandy Lane and Coral Reef, though expensive, are independently owned and, in the latter case, family run. The owners have invested their time and money in Barbados and have contributed enormously to local employment and the local economy over many years, even if guests just stay in the hotel. I'm not sure it's fair to say they don't offer a true Bajan (not Barbadian) experience.

    I absolutely loved this review.
My family, friends, husband, and in-laws are all from Barbados (I'm a 1st generation Canadian [my parents moved to Canada before growing their family]).
There is a lot of people that live on the island that go to this Hilton for a staycation, to celebrate milestones, birthdays at their restaurants and is truly appreciated by the Barbadian people. Thank you so much for sharing your honest thoughts but also reiterating the fact that Barbadians do reap the benefits of this hotel being on that small island.

Hilton Gold status is actually a really good perk - I get it through my credit card too, and I’ve had loads of benefit out of it. Even with the breakfast perk, usually in reality its not just restricted to continental breakfast, which makes it worth a decent amount of money daily. And plenty of times I’ve ended up upgraded, with lounge access etc.
This seems like a great value, solid quality hotel. Honestly, 90% of the time that’s what I’m looking for - boutique can be great, but rarely does it really live up to the hype (or price).

Dude, good lord. This is the type of travel content I've always dreamed of. Very personal, real, and honest- yet equally as remote and hard to reach. Most videos feat. far away places lose that sense of personability or have overtly fortunate hosts I can't seem to relate to. Casey Neistat used to scratch this itch for me, but now Bright Sun Films & travels are easily my 2 favorite TH-cam channels. high praise.

These videos are so nice! I am not even interested in visiting most of the places you review, but the way you present the history and evolution of the place, the little interesting details like the open air architecture bit that most reviewers would just forgo to put a montage of them on the beach. Also the shot compositions are really good :3

Love this review. Stayed here in February 2019 and loved the breakfast on property and lunch by the pool. Only had dinners off property. We were in the other tower overlooking the bay and the ceilings in the room were double height was stunning to have that high of ceilings. Loved the open air of the hotel like you mentioned. I did enjoy walking the beach to the south as it goes quite far and is all public. But you are spot on with having to walk through the parking lot to get to the beach to the west. When were were there they talked about the pool being renovated and the poolside restaurant being majorly expanded and upgraded but I guess that haven’t happened. I’m sure Covid paused that.

Brought to mind my childhood Disney land equivalent, the Hilton Waikoloa. They had amazing kamaaina rates, and often when 1 family would stay where, they would have the kids of 3+ families tagging along 😂. There was water slides, lagoons, boats, a train, dolphins!
The islands public schools would get subsidized trips to the resort’s dolphin quest in the 5th grade. Once in a lifetime experience.
I hope one day you make it out to the big island of Hawaii. There’s so much history and natural beauty. I miss the night sky and my trips up to summit to watch the sunset from 14k ft, under that shadow of telescopes.

Or the Palmer House in Chicago because I use to live near Chicago, and it always seemed like a nice place to stay. There's also the Drake The congress the Warwick Allerton and the Hilton on Michigan Avenue which all look very nice to me.

Thanks for the review. Your video on the Paradise debacle was interesting. Distance from the airport to the Barbados Hilton isn't 25 miles. The island is only 14 miles wide east to west. The Hilton is about 25 minutes drive from the Barbados airport however. The Barbados Hilton and Sandy Lane hotel are nowhere near the same class of hotel. Almost all hotels on the island are open air receptions like the Hilton. Only a few of the newer ones are air conditioned at reception eg the Courtyard Mariott near to the Hilton. You got lucky with that room upgrade. I'm Hilton gold as well from traveling the Caribbean and staying at Hilton hotel brands frequently. You should do a review on the Hilton Trinidad if you're ever in that country. It's, ummm.... interesting.

    🤔 wait 🖐
This establishment is run by the taxpayers of Barbados, and is capable of offering accomodations like this one in the range most would respect as one of the last actual 'deals' available on this corrupted ball of corporate snottery ?
    Hmm...
While the best room in the whole of Niagra Falls was an ill-kept, non-functional, wang-in-the-face good solely to snap/post your pics for an hour ?
    Okay...
So, things are much better when we serve each other, reasonably and with shared understanding.
And when we leave it to a room of bloated, greed-stricken pustules in suits who will never, ever be the ones owning the role of meeting/serving/treating you directly......and with entire legions of the finest lawyers with bottomless retainers....it always becomes worse. Because it's an addiction for them, and the last place they should be is resposible for what makes anything a 'deal'.
And, that the people of Barbados are why you should visit Barbados 😎
