I need to do the very same thing. That happened to me once, and when I rushed back to the post office the fellow was waiting there for me with my wallet. My dad found a checkbook on the BART train. He asked me how I thought we could get it back to its owner, and I said just look inside, and we mailed it back to him, first calling the number to let him know that we have found it. Within a week or so we received a beautiful coffee table book that's the owner had published, photographs taken at exactly the same time all around the world. It was magnificent! We could never have afforded to purchase it. Doing the right thing can be terrifically rewarding. Plus, it's just the right thing to do.
