It took me 10 minutes to do this. No special tools. Only a knife and spanner for the job. The bike shop told me it would cost me £45 to do it. I didn't need to bleed it either. I just pressed the lever a few times and it went back to normal. Thanks you very much.

I watched this video a couple weeks ago, then I ordered a line cutting tool, a barb insertion tool, and some barbs & olives.
I just shortened both the brake lines on my bike in about 20 minutes. It took longer to order the tools and parts than do the work. This video made it look easy because it is. My brakes work just as well as before I shortened the lines, so no bleeding seems to be needed.

you could have saved some money. You don't need a special tool for cutting the line, a utility knife blade or razor blades works fine. You also don't need a barb insertion tool, usually new brakes will come with two small blacks to hold the hose, you clamp the blocks together with some visegrips then just use a hammer to pound the barb in. Also new brakes usually come with an extra barb and olive.

Great info. It would take 5 minutes to reshoot this so it actually looks OK.

I wish i had a guy with this skill near me. Seems this task is beyond most bike techs these days.

Thought there would be a trick at the end on how to get air out of line but no. So now there is air bubbles in the line no doubt. I guess the trick is live with spongy brakes.

Taking the housing line out from the brake lever introduces an opening for air to get in. Its impossible to avoid this which is why the process of bleeding the line after the install or reinstall is essential. This is the same even with ANY hydraulic system including automobiles, motorcycles, floor jacks etc etc etc!

yeah that's what I was thinking, and the process of bleeding the air out only takes a minute or two by just using the lever pump method, that is if you have that shimano brake fluid cup

That’s so awesome that you show the loud tractor going down the street LOL

Thanks. It's an easy task once you get started but nice to be prepared-by-video before the action starts :)

Easy if you have all the tools and parts ready

Could do with a new back tyre

Excelent camera focusing! Movie maker skills right there folks!

Why did you not bleed the brakes! When you cut the hose and re-inserted it you pushed air into the system! I was waiting for the trick at the end but you just didn’t finish the job sir!

Enjoyed the video content but the camera's lack of focus makes it very hard to watch.

Wow. He’s experienced. Is that rear tyre totally worn? Or is it a slick?

My concern is getting air bubbles in the system.

Try not to be concerned. If you get air bubbles, just take them out.

Two cool tools I’ve not seen before. The Magura cable cutter, and especially the Icetoolz press. 😎
As others have said, great video, terrible focus/camerawork. 😬

Do you need to shorten the hoses? I've just fitted my first set and the back brake is quite long. Is it purely how it looks or is there mechanical reasons to shorten it?

    • @Surfmus
      @Surfmus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

IMO is for aesthetics, shave weight and to prevent snagging. But mechanically won't affect. Is a closed circuit. The hydraulic pushes the fluid equally anyways.

Wtf you just got a lot of air inside the system! Im sorry but this is half-ass work, you need to bleed the system properly after this

I can see the benefit. Perhaps get someone who has a clue how to use an iPhone to film. You might get some in focus next time.

This video would almost be helpful if it was in focus.
