Tech sales is 1000% not worth it.
You will find yourself bouncing from job to job either bc you got laid off due to not meeting unobtainable company quota OR bc you got hired on with a start up that stopped being funded.
Unless you like the stress of being micromanaged and your job being threaten every Q with what is called a “PIP” then I suggest you take your skills to a company that values your skillset.
It may be worth it to some, so you can't say it's 1000% not worth it. But I'm with you, I worked as an AE and hated it. I'm now working on my IT skills getting into cyber.
Thanks!
The experience that you have with the job largely depends on 3 really important things.
1) Product Market Fit
2) Enablement/Development Training
3) Employment Tenure
When applying for a new role, I would say these three things are TOP factors to look out for when undertaking a position so you don't end up in a bad situation
It can still be worth it because it opens other doors, as long as you are good at your BDR job. You can always transition into being a CSM, or working in Sales Enablement
I’m glad you started as an outsourced SDR. I’m in the same boat top 2 SDR for my team and our client is one of the largest fintechs. I’m hoping I can land a better job to take care of my family once I get more experience.
I worked at ZoomInfo for a little over a year as an SDR. $50k with $75-100 per completed meeting and heaters: $500 or more on the enterprise team. This is after getting promoted out of inbound which was terrible. You only got $10 per completed meeting. That is horrible for how hard you work. Some don't make it. Now I'm going to another company where I will be making more money. I'm praying to God that next year I will be at 6 figures.
That is definitely an issue I wish I would have mentioned in the video! You can work so hard and not get anything because it’s all about what you can produce, not how hard you work. I’m wishing you (and myself lol) success and 6 figures salaries !!!!!
@@dianaroselive thank you 😊
Haha my baby looked up my channel name and found you I love your name! I get it lol what is sdr?
Oh wow! lol I love your name too ☺️ great minds think alike! And an SDR is a sales development representative
I was a medical device sales rep straight out of college I had the work ethic and wanted to be the best but I received no training and was put in a difficult situation to run a certain part of the department that no one knew how to run, so I had a lot of pressure on me and I think I did ok, this had made me hate sales but I’d like to try again , I’m tired of these low end jobs . do they train , ? Is this online ? Or in person job ?
I feel you! The companies I have experienced train you, some better than others but I received training at all of them.
I’m fully remote so my training was virtual, but they have some SDR positions that are in office and you will get in person training. So it’s a lot of variety to choose.
Damn that’s a lot of books you read most of em?
I try too but lol but I have a lot more to go lol
Omfg how much ? Keep it 💯 boo . If you can’t be straight up with us then get off TH-cam.
Hey love, I’m just not comfortable sharing my income on the internet yet for Personal reasons. Not tryna be sneaky, it’s just a boundary of mine at the time. 💕
@@dianaroselivethe whole point of any career/ job is the pay and you have the opportunity to be in this field to actually tell others that are considering this career/job the absolute truth. Your gatekeeping the most important information people need regarding this and masking it as “one of your boundaries “ there’s no judgement we just want to know what’s really good. Keep it real all the way real or don’t share at all.
@@vanessa9024pipe down Vanessa. Just look up pay range for SDR position. Not hard
Booooooo
@vanessa9024 You went off the deep end she has plenty of videos where she discloses the costs. And not to be a smarty pants but if you can’t do simple research it be a self starter tech might not be for you.
Hi,
Can you help me get an SDR role? I would love to connect on LinkedIn.
You landed 3 different roles in this current job market ?! lol props
thanks !!! I still don’t know how I did it. lol
I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability. Getting into a new career is hard so to share your journey has been dope. Your first year is usually the acclimation period. 2024 will be a big year for you, have fun with it.
Thanks so much! I too believe this will be a good year. I made it thru the first few test lol I appreciate your support ☺️
i cant do tech sales....i'm a Linux Admin. I just want to be left alone. Let me do me. Remote.
I can vividly remember asking you advice about tech sales a couple months ago on your "Conversation w/ a Tech Sales Expert" video. I just graduated high school and was in between whether or not I was to go blindly into higher ed (the faintest idea of what I wanted to major in at institutions that I was not able to afford) like all other people my age upon graduating OR following my gut to pursue this career path. A month ago, I signed my offer letter and will be starting my SDR position in the new year. I want to thank you so much for all the work you do in crafting these videos and tell you that they do not go in vain. Keep inspiring others like me!! If you could do it, I could do it, others can too! Being able to be within a fast-paced industry like tech with a salary that is continuously on the comeup at the age of 19 is a blessing that I will never take for granted. Please share your LinkedIn, I'd love to connect--I also want to talk with you more about your experience at an outsourced SDR company, cause same.🤣 Regards, ❤
OMG! Congratulations on your new position!! 🎉🎉 Wow this makes it’s all worth it! I’m so happy to see you found value in my videos and I was able to help.
I would be more than happy to connect and answer any question you have ☺️ shoot me an email at saasy.tech.live@gmail.com
I’m so excited for you !!!!
What’s your LinkedIn? Can you make a video about your job hunt journey?
My apologies for getting back to you so late. My linkedin is “Diana Wash”. and sure I can try to make a vid like that soon!
How has the job been going?
Pls Can you also share your LinkedIn?…would love to connect and ask a few questions about how your position is going so far….im also new to this tech sales industry and would love to get done insight.
Been thinking about tech for a while. My heart is after the Sales Engineer role as an introvert. Financially the bootcamp is a stretch right now so I'm thinking I may need to start at SDR and work my way up but baby... sdr is giving- me crying in the corner rocking like an abused child when it's time to cold call 😩😔😅😅🤭🤭🤭 I'm not aggressive and I'm not a closer. I'm guessing it will get me out my comfort zone. Your honest videos definitely help me mentally prepare for "the corner" tho 😂😂😂 thank you for the info ❤❤❤❤❤
So I definitely think going SDR before Sales engineer is a great route! I’ve known people (my husband lol) to do a sales engineer bootcamp and it did not help him at all.
Most companies like to higher from within because you already know the product from booking meetings. So I would say although it may be a little tough and u may have a few trips to “the corner” lol I think it’s worth it 💕💕
😂
Can you realistically break into tech sales without a degree? Please I'm really out here looking for answers and can't find anything
Yes you sure can, I don’t have a degree at all. But I do believe my work history helped me land my job as well as the course I took (you don’t need a course but it helped me learn enough to be impressive in interviews and it gave me relevant experience on my resume to even be considered)
The sdr roll is more about proving you have grit and good communication skills overall. And it’s entry level unlike a sales engineer role. I hope this helps!
Thanks for being genuine! I’m going to start CourseCareers soon. I’m currently a flight attendant and I barely made 30k this year. I know everyone’s experience is different - but with the possibility of having to move companies to find the right fit, do you think it would still be possible to break 60k in the first year? 😅
Thanks for watching ☺️ and yes! 60k year one is very possible ! Most places OTE is about 75k. But that’s if you hit quota every single month. So yes 60 is very possible!
@@dianaroseliveyou have to find the leads ? Or the company gives you leads to call ?
Cousin it would be dope to talk about the different industry in the tech industry/ community. Also maybe you can talk about up incoming tech companies, and what tech is looking like for the next 10 yrs (AI for example). Just a thought. Love you super proud of you kid keep going hard 💪🏾💯👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.
Hey! I can definitely look into those subjects! And thanks so much for your support! Love you too💕
Just dodged a bullet today. Very, very, very new startup. I was totally right, BDR means BDR/AE mix. Can't do that in a brand new industry, with a four person company. A shady sister company connected to it, too.
Great vid!
Finally, somone from course careers who spent more than a month working in tech sales lol! I was starting to think it was just a scam and that people were using the program to promote their own businesses and for the affiliate money.
Lol this made me laugh. But yea unfortunately it does seem like some folks were using it for that purpose only which is unfortunate. Tech sales is tough! but I’m hanging in there! lol 💪🏽
omg start up in any industry can be a HOT mess ! everyone wants to have a business ,lol
Do you have tips on how to make a resume coming from warehouse work ima about to do course careers
Really grat transparency here! I'm watching this July 2024 and would love to hear any updates. Thx!
Girl, did we work for same damn startup based in LA?? 😂😂
DEF made me sign that NDA too abd it's so hard to speak on it in interviews so I can fully relate and know the feeling 😅
love the update video! i work in tech marketing as a writer but was laid off a few months ago. thinking about switching into tech sales. it's been nice hearing your perspective!
Thanks u so much for watching! ☺️ with your work history you probably would have an easier time transitioning than others! The job is great once you get over the learning curve lol good luck with everything and let me know how it goes !
Do you have any advice for someone who is about to finish a course for tech sales? I am finishing up Course Careers soon. 🙂
Congratulations !! 🎉🥳 my advice would be get very good at interviewing! Have a strong interesting presence about yourself, and make sure you can sell your abilities. There will be lots of interviews so I would get very confident and comfortable to land a great position.
If u have any further questions you can email me at saasy.tech.live@gmail.com
Good luck with everything !! ☺️
i'm literally a law student (about to go back after a semester hiatus) but for some reason i was immediately tuned in when i saw ur thumbnail lol (can u tell i'm looking for any reason to not go back lmaoo). but ur video quality is so great i hope u have a great 2024 thank u for sharing!! 🤍 edit as i'm watching - really impressive to advance that much in in a year, you will keep doing amazing! i would definitely keep watching corporate/career lifestyle content/updates
Aww thanks so much for watching and for your support 🥹! I love that you found this video entertaining!
I’ll be coming out with more videos about money/career/corporate life etc! Stay tuned 💕
I hope you went back sis
@@JT-tx2ns I DID😭🥲 i actually got my best grades so far that last spring 2024 semester (thought id literally fail cuz it was rough but phew) and day 2 of my final year is today! TYSM 🫶🏻
@@JT-tx2ns ok i swear it deleted my reply so im sorry if it sends you multiple ignore me but I DID!!! 🥲 i got my best grades yet last semester even tho it was a STRUGGLE and day 2 of my final year is today. TYSM 🩷🫶🏻
Did you say how long you were at the jobs? I’m worried about switching too soon & then do I put that experience on my resume still & just explain they weren’t a good fit?
What hours did you work?
I currently work 9a-6p and I am remote.
Great video. What do you think is a realistic quota expectation in 6 mths and 1 yr ?
Thanks for watching ☺️ it really depends on the company but the range I have seen are usually 7-12 meetings in a month.
thanks for sharing yr success and challenges. It gives us a more realistic picture of tech sales.
Absolutely! Best of luck !
Do you know if tech sales can be done part time or have you seen any part time positions?
where you been? keep it up!! I know it can be hard but dont give up!!
Great video love the honesty
Thanks for watching ☺️
How long did it take for you to find work as an SDR
Really appreciate you sharing your experience.
I’ve been a software engineer for 20+ years and want to make a career change to something more social. I’m researching tech sales as one way to go. Just trying to figure out what it will take to get a job in tech sales, if I can leverage my background, how to get in and do well in interviews, etc…
Your vid is a starting point, so appreciate it.
You should look into becoming a Sales Engineer it might be the perfect fit for you! Just don’t pay for a bootcamp named Careerist.
go into saas.. your experience as an engineer will make you competitive
Did you have any sales experience before you got into tech sales
Hey there ☺️ I only had a little retail experience out of high school. I worked in mental health for 10 years before I switched over to tech sales.
Awesome video. Does course careers offer financial aid?
They don’t off Financial aid but they do have payment plans where you can pay about 150 every 2 weeks 4 times.
7:21 cute😂
Sounds so good
🎉🎉🎉🎉 congratulations
Thanks so much !
Does have a four year degree help with Landing interviews? And higher base?
No. It’s purely skill based
Took too long to get to the point 😢
20 grand is a progress girl! Keep up good work!
What were your secrets and steps to get into tech sales without having prior experience?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the insight beautiful ❤🎉
Outsourced adr company, and you count that as tech sales.
This is trash, thumbs down and reported
lol
@drexelspivey872 I reported you too lol
