Critically you cannot compare two players with different roles because they offer something different and so it depends on the tactical setup they are playing in.
Can you compare Fabregas and Makelele? They are both defensive midfielder at times. So which one is better? The answer is it depends on the tactical setup. Which one complement the tactical setup more or the team then that player is the best for that particular case.
If that comparison of player in the same position already gives you the answer that it's not comparable, how could you compare two players from different position??

Kante is always cheerful. His energy is just unbelievable, this dude will just cover the whole pitch. Makelele was awesome but N’Golo Kante is just phenomenal in every aspect of the game.
Makelele was a World class defensive midfielder, I watched them both play, and they both the best defensive midfielders Chelsea has ever had
Vision and incredible stamina. Zidane always said that Makelele was making him play better (national team + Real). Kante is the same kind of player.
